I don't understand people who complain about the way you react. You are so entertaining to watch it makes me borderline jealous that you get to hear all this amazing music for the first time. I wish I could go back and do that again, but I'm mostly just glad that you're going on the ride.

When songs from an album from 1973 STILL blows the mind out of new generations we realize how brilliant it actually is....
For us who know every tune in the songs, and know what's comming, it's a trill to se your reaction when the different instruments and sounds step in 😂

Would that it was sampling. Would have been easy. Not back in those days. They recorded all of the coins, cash drawers etc sounds, using real coins, cash drawers etc, took the tapes and cut them up with a razor blade, spliced them together repeatedly to get a beat the matched the time signature. To loop the beat they spliced one end of the recording tape to the other, ran the tape through a deck, and around several mic stands in the studio and recorded the looped beat another recording deck. It was hands on studio engineering whizz bangery.

    Nice reaction.
Pink Floyd is deeper than the Mariana trench, higher than any satellites orbiting earth, cooler than an iceberg in a river of liquid nitrogen, hotter than a solar flare of lava spouted from the sun, smoother than a quantum stabilized atom mirror, more Zen than 10,000 Buddhist monasteries, larger than what we know as our universe. Their music is an enigma that is beyond what we are capable of comprehending.

Ok so Pink Floyd would go on tour with new music for up to two years before going into the studio. So 17 year old me saw them in Sheffield City Hall do nearly the whole album 18 months before it was released and no-one there had heard any of it before. Mind blown fan ever since

I really enjoyed watching your reaction. Pink Floyd didn't do sampling, that was before sampling was invented. They physically did that themselves. The biggest reason to listen to the studio album is to hear the original version with all extra sounds that sometimes get removed in the live performance on stage. There both equally good but the live version's give longer performance's. Pink Floyd will change your life.
Thank you for enjoying the music of my generation. I'm 67 and I still love Pink Floyd. They started as a band but became a legendary group of master musicians who have no equal in the music world. They've been making music for over 55 years. There are other legendary bands but there is only one Pink Floyd and there never be another. They are the Beethoven and Mozart of the 20th and 21 century.
    Welcome to the family.

I saw pink Floyd in Montreal in 1976. I just found out, thanks to TH-cam, that this concert inspired Another Brick in the Wall. It was a hot July day, concert was at the Olympic stadium. For some reason they opened the gates at 3pm. By the time Floyd took the stage, well... Ya know. I was on mid-field and I was unaware of what was going on in front. The crowd was pretty out of control. Started shooting off fireworks, some very near the stage. That I do remember, but I thought it was part of the show. Anyway, that's my, PF story. 🤩

Listening to Floyd is not just listening to music, it's a spiritual experience. Got my first copy of DSOTM on 8 track tape in 74, I was 12 years old, I still get the same feelings when I listen to at 61. I was very fortunate to finally get to see them in 87' and then again in 94', been to a lot of great shows in my time but those two performances were by far the best.

Welcome to your Pink Floyd journey. You're where I was when I was 14 years old (I'm 48 now).
The reason fans keep saying "listen to the whole album!" is because we know what's in store for you. But you're doing it the right way....YOUR way. Floyd fans often forget that they (most of them, anyway) started with songs, not albums. We heard Money, Comfortably Numb, or Run Like Hell on the radio, and our ears perked up. We delved deeper and discovered the albums later. You'll get there. Don't let these impatient people get to you. We're just looking forward to the day you go from 110% to 10000010%.

Next year will be 50 years...if you're 15 when this came out, you didn't know what to make of this, none of us did only that it was mind blowing....reality is, this was their 8th album....go back to 1967 and listen to that initial first single Arnold Layne about a crossdresser who steals women's clothing off clothing lines along with that B side Candy and a Currant Bun....second single See Emily Play...then that first album Piper at the Gates of Dawn and listen to "Astronomy Dominé", "Lucifer Sam", ""Interstellar Overdrive" and "Bike" then their second album A Saucerful of Secrets and listen to "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" and the sole contribution from Syd Barrett "Jugband Blues", they did a few soundtrack albums which I don't know much about but "Obscured by Clouds" 1972, has one gem on there "Free Four" you should listen to. Other gems before Dark Side are Atom Heart Mother suite, and from Meddle (1971) One of these Days, Fearless, Echoes....all just so you can get a sense of what they were before that tsunami hit in 1973.

See this is why Dark Side of the Moon stayed on the top 100 best selling albums for like 742 weeks, lol, it's timeless, bridges generations, this concept album addresses everything we go thru in life, time, money, insanity, death, aside from being musically genius, it appeals to everyone because the topics apply to everyone, and its awesome to see your reactions to these, makes me feel young again! whenever youre ready to do another live, my vote is for "SORROW" live at pulse, same concert you did comfortably numb from, the guitar in that is soul piercing, lol, GREAT REACTION!

Loving your reactions dude! Try "Sorrow" from the Pulse concert (restored version for better visuals). Great intro, great solo in the middle, and great outro! You'll love it! 🎸🤟🏻

It's all so circular. The lyrics to track "Brain Damage" include the title of the album "the dark side of the moon" as well as references to "insanity" and "Lunatics" .
The word Lunatic comes from Lunar The word Lunar means "of the Moon"

Absolutely loving these Floyd reactions, Hector - never stop being you!
The song Money feeds into is called Us And Them (no, you haven't done that one yet), which is another masterpiece: music by keyboard player Rick Wright (he also wrote Great Gig in the Sky) and lyrics (like all PF songs) by bassist Roger Waters. It's an absolutely beautiful song which explores inequality and the human condition. And, of course I'm going to recommend it!! 👌

At some point, you should watch the live version of "Money" at the PULSE show, 1994. You'll love it. And no, other people are sampling them; they're the originals. Dick Parry on sax. David Gilmour on lead vocals and guitar.

  • @robertcartier5088

_"They're sampling, now!"_ Yes, except that in 1973, sampling was done with loops of magnetic tape! They have it so easy, these days! lol

What really freaks me out about the DSOTM album is that these guys were in their late 20's - early 30's when it was recorded. Their insights are amazing. Not to mention the quality of production. Simply astonishing!! for 1973. This is the album (and Animals) I measure other musical pieces of work by. :)

That was awesome. You are definitely a Floydian! And the song feeds into 'Us and Them'

You know how they did the “sampling” you mentioned? BY SPLICING TOGETHER PIECES OF RECORDING TAPE WITH THE INDIVIDUAL SOUNDS ON IT by hand to create the beat. And they had to do it uphill in the snow both ways, and we LIKED it!

Good reaction....i highly recommend the LIVE Pulse remastered version of SORROW (better than the studio for this one). It will blow your mind and leave you speechless... and the same concert for a very nice surprise KEEP TALKING. No you haven't listened to the next one on the album yet. :)

I highly, highly, highly recommend something from “Animals”. “Dogs”, “Pigs” or “Sheep”. Doesn’t matter, you are going to hear them all eventually. The album is loosely based on George Orwell “Animal Farm”. Check it out. Oh, and find the videos with lyrics.

Pink Floyd really is incredible. There are many other artists I enjoy and listen to, but PF is just on another level. I've heard every album they've put out many multiple times and it just never stops being amazing. Hope to see you react to every one of them eventually.

Be careful [ with that axe, Eugene ]. You'll get through Pink Floyd, & then stumble into 'Yes'; not " Owner of a Lonely Heart ", but what came before, 'Close to the Edge', 'Awaken', 'Tales from Topographic Oceans', 'Starship Trooper' & more ......
