      I had to look up what kind though. At times it sounded tenor and at times it sounded alto. It's a tenor. Pink Floyd used saxes quite often IIRC, Dave Parry playing them all on the studio versions I believe.

      And only a few years later you would watch the fingers fly ( often a complete blur) from the person behind the counter as they input every individual number that every Item cost . $1.50 would be 4 inputs of the keys.

    Great reaction and wow it's really tough to pick a single song, but if hard pressed I'd go with "Dogs" off of animals. Thing is, all of their albums are concept albums, so it's tough to separate songs out like that. Animals is my favorite album by them though and Dogs is my favorite from that album. I think I've mentioned this, somewhere at least. Side 1 is about your life as seen internally. Side 2 is about the external influences on that life. As far as a stand alone song goes, I think Echoes from the Meddle album is my standout. It indicated the shift that the Floyd was going through. The live version at Pompeii is the best, but the song is split into two sections.

    Grew up with this and it's always woven into part of my soul. If it matters to you, much of the song is in a prog rock beat, 7's, highly utilized by Rush and King Crimson for example. And it just makes it kick that much harder when it hits a straight 8 later in the soloing.

    For my best Pink Floyd song, I have 3, you can put them in the order you prefer:
    Echoes
    Time
    Comfortably Numb
    Depending on how I feel I could have them in any order, they are all equally great for me.

    The sounds you hear at the beginning, the coins chinking, the till, the fruit machine etc were all individually recorded, then the tapes all joined together, and to get them onto the record apparently the tape loop was stretched across the studio around various mic stands. There are 7 distinct sounds, which informed the time signature.

    Hard to pick a favorite. I'll go with Goodbye Blue Sky off The Wall. But keep going with Dark Side. Us and Them is next and it is fantastic.

    Yes, it's a sax. the guitar solo doesn't come in until the beat changes.

    The term 'it's a gas' is British slang for a good time. And yes that's one of the best Sax solos in Rock.

    My favorite is the next song on this album. Us and Them (love the sax). Looking forward to your reaction.
    BTW Hilarious watching your eyes go left and right as the cash register sound moved from either side. Another example of why Pink Floyd, and this album in particular, should be listened to through headphones. Thanks for sharing. 😘

    This song is to up and coming bass players as what Smoke in the Water is for guitarists. Great fun little riff to learn for beginners.

    Yes its a sax, its a session jazz blower called Richard Parry who played sax on the pulse concerts and a few other floyd tracks like shine on you crazy diamond and one of these days. Favourite song is between Sorrow and on turning away

    Pink Floyd always does a great job of interjecting sounds in the song that correlate to the subject matter of the song. There is a wrong statement in the lyric. Money is not the root of evil, the love of money is. Money can be used for either good or evil.

    • @42Mrgreenman
      @42Mrgreenman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. The root of evil always stems from people. Those with agency. And how one handles money reveals everything about them while the money is just the means, the tool that is used...

    • @santanamauricio
      @santanamauricio ปีที่แล้ว

      you say there is a wrong statement in the lyrics, from your point of view, you cant say they are wrong you just disagree with them. money is a construct, before we invented money things went alright

    After playing guitar for years I decided to buy a bass and found I really enjoyed it too. One of the first basslines I HAD to learn was this song. Incredibly fun to play.
    Favourite PF song is difficult, I personally love "Hey You" but all time fav may have to be Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V particularly).

    LOL, I laughed so hard when it said "guitar solo" where as it was a saxophone playing, but of course the guitar solo came next. You got good ears Lilly. Great reaction, I know you'll love the last four tunes from the album. See you next time, peace. ✌✌❤

    Favorite Pink Floyd song, a really tough choice. Maybe, "Time", or "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict", sorry that is my favorite Title of a Pink Floyd song, barely edging out "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" both of those songs on the Album "UmmaGumma" their 4th release (November 1969)

    There are people answering questions throughout this album. The band got as many people as they could to sit in a recording booth to answer questions on cue cards. The people talking at the end of this song are answering the questions "When was the last time you thumped someone?," "Why did you do it?," "Did you think you were in the right?," and "Do you still think you were in the right?"

    And, I can confirm, LillyJane that, yes, it is definitely a sax!

    This *IS* my favorite Pink Floyd song. I love how musically complex and surprising it is. On those solos, every time one ends, I always expected another verse. But NO, there's another solo! I LOVE THAT!
    I also understand that the key signature is some strange beat like 5/9, but I'm not sophisticated enough to say for sure. I just know it's certainly not 4/4 or 6/8, at least all the time.
