My favorite part of this was the end, where there is a room of people who salute to Snake. Every time Snake fires a shot, they hesitate, but they return to saluting anyway. Such loyal men, who died braver than most.
"Boss?! Boss! Hey, let's let the Boss decide. We live and die by your order, Boss." This part made me tear up a bit. I had to pause and sit there just to decompress for a minute.
"It's the boss!" "Let... him decide." "We live an die by your order, Boss." "..." He looks at them, and shakes his head. "...so that's it huh? No cure? Guess the mask means it's airborne...?" "..." Big Boss nods slowly. "...get the bastard who did it for us." A bullet ends his life. The leader of Outer Heaven is an excellent shot and at this range the bullet goes directly through his target's t-zone, killing the man instantly. "Don't let him get away, sir." This time the soldier draws his sidearm and takes his own life, two of the others join him. Another tries to draw hers but the infection has progressed further and it clatters out of her hands. "It's... Been a damn honor... Mark... Do it..." One of the lab coat clad men in one smooth motion shoot her and then himself. The other picks up a fallen pistol and points it towards his head. His hand trembles and he can't seem to pull the trigger. "I'm sorry..." The boss raises his pistol, and the man nods shakily, before a silenced shot drops a body to the ground. Over the radio, he hears someone talking, but he tunes it out.
in other words... You are heartbroken to kill men... good men, who served you with loyalty and without question. Men who bring you closer to your goal, and help you when you fall. You had to kill your family... but it had to be done. for that, you truly feel a phantom pain, huh?

I literally had to walk away from my console for at least 20 minutes after walking into this room the first time, metal gear has some pretty heavy moments but this was the best one in the series, so disappointing this is kojimas last metal gear (for the foreseeable future at least)

This was the most painful section of an MGS game since shooting The Boss, in Snake Eater. Kojima loves to make us feel attached to characters just to end up shooting them yourself later on, rather than a cutscene that you can just watch or skip.

Man. I'm not so good speaking in your language but I will try. 10 years ago I has played a game called Dragon Knight. I trained hard to become strong enough to beat the final boss and protect my army. I care about every single man and woman in my army because I recruit everyone one by one. But in the end everything start to going wrong. The boss just kill everyone with one only spell and my entire force was ruined. My best mans, including the protagonist. I got my revenge later but that scene made me cry. Time travel is the best friend of avengers, I can say that.

I was so fuckin fed up when I had to go through with this...You really can feel your hard work going down the drain at that moment. The loss of valuable staff members and even the hard-earned heroism points...That really is going down the demon path. Even sending your soldiers on missions and receiving their KIA status hurt. But this was something else entirely.
For someone who want to replay this mission but afraid to losing any current diamond dogs members but you could, once you completed the mission then you go back to your mission list it'll be appear ''[Flashback]'' that means you can replay again without losing any progression
I’m pretty sure the loss in heroism is also partly the fact that Venom is breaking the Diamond Dog code, which is to never turn your weapon on a fellow Diamond Dog.
Not even killing The Boss was this sad,cause Big Boss killed her in a cutscene, tho the "true patriot" scene is the most sad one ,but in this one being Venom Snake you are the one who needs to pull the trigger to put them out of their misery...i literally had to aim and close my eyes xd its just a game but it hits you right in the feelings.
You must have never played Snake Eater. The cutscene will give you control when Snake goes to shoot her, and it will stay there until you press the kill button. It doesn’t even eventually time out and make you shoot her, you *have* to do it yourself.
This is one of the greatest moments in gaming history. This isn’t your cliche trolley problem. It’s, you have to do what you have to do. Without gratitude. And by always being reprimanded.

@erikcarrillo33 Yes, when you learn about the virus and that it can be dealt with, you need to find the staff that speaks a specific language, I don't remember which one specifically, but you need to find each and every single one of your staff members that speak that language and send them to the quarantine for the cure. If you do so, this event will not trigger. Shows that if you pay attention and actively look for clues, you can avoid a disaster.
Just before this, when Venom left the main platform, Miller saying “When you’re ready to move, just use the iDroid” but in cutscene this time and with the theme, always gives me chills. It was his way of saying “be careful” to his friend.
The most tragic thing about this is that this isn’t even Big Boss killing these soldiers. Those soldiers died at the hands of an imposter they believe in as their iconic hero, while the real guy is out there building his real nation. For anyone disappointed in MGSV because Big Boss never turned evil. Well, he always was... he abandoned all these people and Miller at the end of Peace Walker, denouncing what The Boss stood for. He became Big Boss and let someone take on his image as a body double. It's hard enough on him as it is. It's also hard enough on player. First i was completing MGS V i felt little sorry for Huey, but in the end i think he well deserved all the hate and despise he received from Miller and Ocelot.
I just noticed... Small detail. Emmerich gives shit to BB the whole time, claiming BB is a liar and doesn't care about his men. Once the active combat situation begins and he kills more and more of his Diamond Dogs, BB's breathes become more rapid and distressed. He may not say it, but he's crushed.

Violent Vidoes games don't make killers. It makes you cry like a bitch. I looked at each of their names and it made me die a little inside each time until I was taking a full minute between dropping them. I still can't finish the game because this moment was so heart wrenching. One of the guys in the humming room was one of my oldest Companions who I brought with me whenever I could. Bastard survived everything had to turn off my game and curl up in a corner for a hot minute. I came for stealth combat and janky ways to kill the enemy. Not to shoot the characters I recruited along the way.
The pain of killing your video game comrades doesn't just come from the scenario, it's the 100+ hours you've put into grinding and figuring out the mechanics of this algorithm, and you finally leveled so many things up, you're feeling accomplished and you feel a sense of community with these NPCs, so much so that when you learn what you have to do.... You feel a feeling PRIOR to even going into the tent 😭 killing The Boss was hard, but this was harder. Venom was connected to these men way more than Big Boss was connected to any of his. This is wildly insane.
The way Snake breaths heavily The way he looks away from his staff before taking the shot The desperation of all the Diamond Dogs as they know they're about to be killed by Venom himself The way some of them accept their fate and even beg to be killed as soon as they see Snake The ending cutscene I don't see how it's possible to not cry during/after this mission

I feel you lose heroism because Venom Snake feels unheroic or loses his confidence after he kills each infected soldier even though its not his fault

Violent Vidoes games don't make killers. It makes you cry like a bitch. I looked at each of their names and it made me die a little inside each time until I was taking a full minute between dropping them.
I still can't finish the game because this moment was so heart wrenching. One of the guys in the humming room was one of my oldest Companions who I brought with me whenever I could. Bastard survived everything had to turn off my game and curl up in a corner for a hot minute. I came for stealth combat and janky ways to kill the enemy. Not to shoot the characters I recruited along the way.
The thing is: we "recruit" those men against their will but they swore to stay loyal till the end.

The pain of killing your video game comrades doesn't just come from the scenario, it's the 100+ hours you've put into grinding and figuring out the mechanics of this algorithm, and you finally leveled so many things up, you're feeling accomplished and you feel a sense of community with these NPCs, so much so that when you learn what you have to do.... You feel a feeling PRIOR to even going into the tent 😭 killing The Boss was hard, but this was harder. Venom was connected to these men way more than Big Boss was connected to any of his. This is wildly insane.

i like how venom's breathing gets loader the more people he kills in this mission
Watching this, I get the same feeling when I played this mission for the first time.
Emmerich is like that one kid who snitches your own friend that he knocks the door when both of them are kicked out of the room for punishment!
I had wierd feeling thru the whole mission, and felt so bad when i couldnt help my staff.

Doom Badger really gave it his all.
