The official reason is so the player can feel like he is snake. But really its just kiefer sutherland-snake's voice actor is popular, so he is not cheap

In the end, Venom Snake isn't Big Boss, so that would explain why Venom Snake was far more reserved in his speech and absent of the wit of Big Boss. Play Ground Zeroes, you'll see that Big Boss talks quite a bit.
^^^ I totally second this Another angle to consider is that, although they did try to make Venom think and believe he was actually Big Boss, the guy just woke up from a 9-year coma. He most likely remembered nothing and I think that had a strong influence on his personality. It already takes a while for a person who just woke up from a coma to get back on his feet given that he'd receive all the support he needs. Venom was pretty much forced into his new life immediately. So I guess most of the time Venom just did what he had to do while trying to make sense of the whole situation.

Set a birthday for your custom character, whether it be your real one or a whole other day and then play on said day. Few might change the console clock but it’s better not to do that, hey people might forget it’s your birthday but metal gear won’t

The official reason is so the player can feel like he is snake. But really its just kiefer sutherland-snake's voice actor is popular, so he is not cheap

In the end, Venom Snake isn't Big Boss, so that would explain why Venom Snake was far more reserved in his speech and absent of the wit of Big Boss.
Play Ground Zeroes, you'll see that Big Boss talks quite a bit.

Another angle to consider is that, although they did try to make Venom think and believe he was actually Big Boss, the guy just woke up from a 9-year coma. He most likely remembered nothing and I think that had a strong influence on his personality. It already takes a while for a person who just woke up from a coma to get back on his feet given that he'd receive all the support he needs. Venom was pretty much forced into his new life immediately. So I guess most of the time Venom just did what he had to do while trying to make sense of the whole situation.
