Appreciate your view on the xmen, as a 45yr old black man that grew up reading and still reads them I've always equated the xmen to the black struggle in America... keep doing your thing my guy.
49 year old blerd here. Do you feel a bit upset that during OUR generation, being a nerd was frowned upon, denigrated, and mocked... but the youngsters these days get 🍑 while enjoying anime and other nerd stuff?
@@ChineduOpara I don't. I think it's great because we (I'm 45) got treated like shit I don't want to revisit that on anyone. But at the same time, I hate the term blerd. It's unncessary. Also, nobody else is called an aerd, werd or naerd. Nerd is nerd.
Kitty’s real name (Kate) still has some whiplash to her in terms of her previous actions in the Fall and Fall of the House of X. She can’t reclaim it just yet, I think.
Honestly, this is like the third time that we have had this exact same Kitty story line. I would've loved to see Emma and Synch finding and training new mutants. Synch's powers even allow him to find other mutants in his vicinity. I also wish that one of these X-books had more non passing mutants on the teams.
One of my favorite types of characters is the audience surrogate character, but sometimes it feels like those characters can get stuck as young plucky sunshine beams forever. I'm glad Kitty and Jubilee don't suffer from that issue. Exceptional and Uncanny are the 2 books I'm most excited for this era
I grew up with Chris Clairmont writing the Uncanny X-Men, I loved it when he wrote "a slice of life" type moments as it helps flesh out characters. Not enough writers today are able to pull off a slice of life moment to enhance the overall story. Too often they think one page is enough when its not.
While it's not one of "the big three" flagships, there is one title that has a time-traveler involved in the "From the Ashes" books. Rachel aka Askani has joined Forge's team in X-Force.
People were angry at/scared of/wanting to exterminate mutants WAY before Magneto opened his mouth. If he was mute, listened to the humans directions, and was a good little mutie, nothing would have been different.
Right to this. Orchis had an entire satalite base in play well before the events of issue 1 of HOX. Mags probably didn't HELP but it wasn't the root cause.
while Magneto saying they had new gods was out of pocket in Charles had seen multiple timelines including ones where he tried to just create a mutant sanctuary and stay out the way and orchis still murdered them so he took a page out of the united states foreign policy guide and decide to give people the option between a hamburger or a pistol. Magneto was there to remind people the pistol was still a thing ...charles even said the medicine would have been a gift but humanity had sat by and watched the worst of them try and genocide the mutants too many times. hell the fact that after the decimation somebody said "we shoudl coordinate with aim and hydra and shield to take the mutants out if they ever get their shit together again" and made a global sleeper network ahead of time shows peace was never an option for the mutants
The Way that vulnerable emotions have been shown in X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and now Exceptional X-Men have been awesome to read. We've seen various levels of characters dealing with anxiety and grief and fighting these battles in private. I'm liking these From the Ashes titles a lot. I LOVED the interaction between Bronze and Her grandmother. The writing and the freaking ART is beautiful!
I feel like people need to focus on common humanity because we live in a world where humanity is uncommon. X-men has always pointed this out…not hatred for minorities, but hatred for a part of humanity. Not fear of power…but the fear of being powerless. Pain, loss, guilt…it’s always been there. Be human to one another.
I've been kinda skeptical about having more mutant mentees introduced again in a new series, but I'll say that I liked how this is starting. Kitty's post-Krakoa uncertainties make sense emotionally, and we got a memorable introduction to Trista both visually and personality-wise. I'm genuinely interested in what her journey will be like over the next few issues. (The brief scene with her and her grandma towards the end was a really nice little moment, imo.)
That's absolutely insane that no black writers have written x-men. X-men is a story that's supposed to symbolize the way that minorities are treated in the US... the irony's not lost on me.
And in the next issue, the exciting adventure of Iceman’s first day at the Dairy Queen 😂😂 btw, did we ever get a explanation of how kitty changed back to normal after taking the death seed? Did I miss something?
They were exceptional when they had Krakoa. Now mutants are fractured, divided, weak and fighting each other. Seems like all their missions are low stakes street level stuff. They were so much more before
I’m going to keep reading this book only because I’m curious about the new characters. Which they will be forgotten like every new mutant after a big crisis and new x book titles are launch. What happened to the mutants they introduced during Marauders in space?… forgotten lol
I'm not a Blerd, I'm a trans nerd though, and I was very happy to find out Eve Ewing was writing this for the same reason. Plus Kitty is my favorite X-Man I'm looking forward to how Emma and Kitty come together on this given their histories. This is the book I've been waiting for since the Fall of Krakoa.
This is the first book that had me really excited fur more issues after the initial read since Krakoa (not to say the other titles aren’t good). Was skeptical of bringing in new mutants since we already have so many unused ones, but bronze definitely made an impression. Side note I’m glad she’s going by Kitty again. I was introduced to her in Cmen Evolution so it just feels more right to me
This one is the opening issue of the core X books I liked the least, I felt that they made Kitty look a little too weak after being such a badass in the Krakoan Era, especially during the concert incident. That said, I'm still interested to see where the story goes.
I'm 56 , retired Army , and still read comics . I love the X-Men and I'm hopeful that the direction they're taking will help the line . Love your streams . Great content and you keep me up on things I may miss . I use Marvel Unlimited and DC Universe Infinite to read most of my conics . I want to subscribe to get up to date on some issues . Do you have any information to help me get digital up to date issues of X-Men , Spider-Man , Avengers , Justice League , and Bat Man comics . I'd appreciate it .
I like this spin on the New Mutants/Gen X of X-Men series. Its coo that these titles are addressing the anxiety and depression of the OG X-Men after Krakoa. I feel like Synch needs to make an appearance in AT LEAST one of these titles. They built his character up so well and he is an Omega mutant. He needs more shine. The token rule on these teams is getting cliched and old.
I kinda became disillusioned with the comic book community and in general due to the overwhelming amount of incels and rampant bigotry among the fandom. But you are such a breath of fresh air and I really enjoy everything you do and your voice among all that noise. Thank you
I mean, while most mutants have minor issues (blue skin, can breathe under water). But the most news worthy stories are the guy who's eyes can blow the top off a mountain, the terrorist with magnet powers; the woman who can drought you. That isn't to say the bigotry is right or fair. But mutants that make tge news don't usually just have a basic ability or odd skin color. The ones who make the news are mostly people who can be dangerous. And their is no real way to protect people. Like Sabertooth has very badic powers. But he uses them to be a serial killer. And again; cyclops can blow a mountain apart. The most unreasonable conciet isnthat Spider-man and Johny Storm are often (thow not always) seen differently. The oddest thing is you got powers from a gene; you are a menace. But your power is from an accident, no you good.
Kitty and I grew up together, both Jewish kids in the 80's with divorced parents and feeling separate from the world. I still feel connected to her in a way that is more like seeing myself in a fictional setting. But the last few years haven't been that way. I'm glad I can see myself in her again.
This book... was like watching paint dry. This is the first X-Men book written by a black person... so what, it was dry, slow and didn't make me want to come back to it. If you liked it, cool, but not for me.
What's funny is people often misread the context of two of those moments she used the N word. To be clear, I am not saying you fit this, I don't know you so can't say so. The following is based on many conversations I've had with others. Too many haven't read the issues, they simply judge her by just hearing "Kitty used the N word" and claim racism, when often she was responding to racists. Yes she could have chosen her words better, but she was a 14 yr old kid, they often don't choose the correct words. case 1- A grown adult man looms over this 14 yr old kid with a equally hostile group behind him and he menacingly asks, "Are you a mutie?" she responds "Gee, I don't know, are you a N----r?" This isn't so much of being a racist as teenager's "insult me, I insult you" case 2- she gets into a fistfight with a fellow dance student who's been an a-hole for days and been using the "mutie" slur. Her dance teacher Stevie scolds her, telling her she should have just ignored it as it's "just words". In tears Kitty asks would she say the same if he called her (Stevie) a N---r. In this she is asking the teacher whom she trusts to see things from her view, that wasn't "just words" but the guy being a racist. I think there's a 3rd case at Larry's funeral and Kitty makes a speech against bullying and hate, She lists a lot of insults and in the end, she wraps it up saying those are just labels, not what makes a person whom they are.
I read xmen just because I like it. Being a poc and looking at the xmen ion relate at all. Those are just a group of ppl going through life’s problems. I love team but hate the analogy ppl like to use them being minorities blacks Latina etc.. they’re clearly white I feel like we just settling if they wanted to make black characters they would. This is why the black panther movie felt different than any xmen movie they just are not us. No hate just two cents for the ppl who don’t care.
Post Krakoa X-Men hasn’t impressed me thus far. I love the gravitas that Hickman brought to the X-men brand. I know Marvel’s going back to a more relatable vibe, but ugh. Not doing it for me. Happy for those that are enjoying it, cheers

I'm really liking that the characters in each of the main x-books is dealing with their anxiety, uncertainty, and the hindsight of krakoa
Kitty’s real name (Kate) still has some whiplash to her in terms of her previous actions in the Fall and Fall of the House of X. She can’t reclaim it just yet, I think.
Kitty and Scott, Sage and a few others are not ok mentally and I like it we're seeing the effects of all the bs the went through
Rogue too, I think she's not going to slip immediately into barking orders and leadership because she's ,rightly, depressed.
I really liked the part with the grandma, also loving Kitty's growth after Krakoa
Kitty and Emma both debuted in X-Men 129 in 1980 - cool to see them together again at the beginning of a new X title! 😎

But the write is black this time
Kitty was fun af in Marauders, and I think the fall of Krakoa really broke her. I'm glad that she's on this book so that Dr. Ewing can dive into it

I'll have to track down that Ironheart book. I enjoyed Dr. Ewing's Black Panther story and that's what tempted me towards her X-book.
