I understand Krakoa wasn't perfect, it had its flaws like all things do, but those flaws don't mean it should just go away, especially considering it was a YOUNG Country. They needed to fix a lot of those things & many fixes were even proposed in the books, but instead of addressing them & working on the nation as a whole, we went with the "No more mutant safe space route." Yes, it had its flaws, but it was still better than having all them go back into a world that hates & fears them. Especially since you can still have these stories and have Krakoa in the world.
Krakoa had to end, but they could have asked "Where can we take this that has never been done before?" instead of "How can we retreat to the safe, easy, 90's-era stories that make a certain demographic feel comfortable?" They could have told new stories that explored the X-Men in new ways. This is... not that. If the last five years have been "Hickman's Krokoa Era," the next five years will be "Brevoort's Boring Era." This is what happens when editors make the creative decisions, instead of actual creative people: Same old same old, because this is what worked for them before.
@@DrHarlequinn before Brevoot took over and changed everything they were going to keep the island 🏝️ and then reform its government into something better and just have it in the background to play with later but then Brevoot came .🥲
@@michaeltaylor788Were they? I never heard that. Not saying that isn't true or anything, just genuinely never heard that. Mostly because Krakoa wasn't even conceived of as a permanent thing by Hickman. It was basically meant to be a maxi-series that explored a flawed nation building-up while tackling Nathaniel Essex's long game. I'm sure it meant to have some lasting development (e.g., Krakoa continuing to exist; some political shift; some removed, returned or changed favorites; some D-listers elevated; etc.) but there was always going to be a "then what"? To a lot of people's points, the problem comes when the "then what" is lackluster, but we can hardly ever go from an event back to an old status quo without feeling the loss of momentum. It isn't simply that Krakoa's gone, it's that the era organized all mutant books around a central concept, and now those books are once again team A over here doing X, team B over here doing Y, etc., and everyone isn't going to be into X, Y and/or Z. Either way, even if they considered keeping Krakoa as an ongoing Earth-based nation, it was probably one of several choices there to make that were departures from what Hickman intended would wrap things. ...just like Genosha, Utopia, Asteroid M, House of M, the Outback, etc., were all meant to be uniting eras that would expire at some point.
It would be interesting to read that the actual premise of the new X factor run is secretly also what the original X factor team was doing which was spiriting away mutants to safe havens.
Havok got alived a different way. His death was after that. It was in a very short web comic on the Marvel app. I was disappointed it was so Hand wavy, but c'est la vie
Yeah. They're trying hard (and yet not so hard at the same time) to make the digital exclusive format a thing, but reviving Havok over there felt like an afterthought.
@@bajansamuraiI prefer the digital comics format where you can scroll down the comic instead of the swiping smart panels. I wish they would make it the standard or an option for all their digital comics
I hope Frenzy gets to actually do something in this book. Sword, X-men Red and D3ad X-men all she did was a punch here and there, then stood in the background through the entire story. 🙄🙄🙄
Problem with Feral has truly been she's yet another on a motif vying for space that Wolverine, Sabertooth, X-23, Wildchild, and more specifically, Wolfsbane and Beast (and a shout out to Catseye) occupy. Feral just never got that riveting personal story cemented in our minds for her to catch, but at least people remember her (again, looking at you Catseye 😂).
Just read this - and I was pleasantly surprised. Bob Quinn's art very good. I liked him on Way of X , and he's only gotten better. I've never read anything by Russell, and I enjoyed this issue. I liked the set up, the plot, and the character work. and the character designs. I like the team logo on the uniforms, too, oddly enough. So far, this may be the x-book I've enjoyed most - that may be because its the one for which I had the lowest expectations. This feels like a mash-up of elements from the original X-Factor, the intial PAD run, and X-statix. Feels like a Keith Giffen book. That's a compliment. The tone does a good job of threading the needle between satirical commentary and straight-up action. I was not going to buy this, but I am going to give it a chance.

I'm not sold. I'm tired of seeing mutants with potential used as cannon fodder, especially Feral. Killing her off after she was dead for decades was a low blow. P.S. Krakoa Forever!
Her panel where you see her critically injured said “clinging to life”, I think she’s fine, but likely either been kicked off X-Factor by Broderick or she wants nothing to do with the team.
While I have a lot of thoughts on this issue (most of which are positive), the main one for me is that I hope and pray it elevates some of the featured characters because a lot of them haven't been written the best over the years. By which I mean Polaris and Havok. I think Alex going through this would be the best thing for him as a character because it seems like for years X-Writers have reduced him to the "How about Alex?" moment in Uncanny Avengers or Maddie Pryor's sidepiece, which even the better depictions of him (like in Hellions) haven't really done anything to fully do away with, but the fact he's back with X-Factor makes me hopeful since I feel that outside of a Starjammer's title (which Krakoan Marauders basically was, now that I think of it) it's probably the only type of team he'd be able to stand out on. While I'm reserving anything regarding Lorna because of just how quickly issue 2 could change her trajectory, I think the level of cynicism she's at is notable because a lot of it is very Magneto-esque (specifically her whole mutant seperatist deal) and I wonder if something's at play there...
I'm surprised you didn't mention the whole social media/'click-clock' element, which feels very X-Statix to me. Mutants as entertainment... could Mojo be involved?
I was not happy about Farell. Not at all. But maybe she's OK. Maybe it's a show. It feels like the sort of thing a sketchy organization may do. Cuz I feel like Havok may be upset about that.
I don't feel the same fear for the next roster's safety because they were always the solicited team to follow (with a few hidden from the announcement). Feral, Firefist and Cameo were used as intended to plant the feelint of stakes for the real team the creatives were making this about.
I felt that Krakoa was bound to end at some point. leading to six xmen teams besides xforce and xfactor. This is just my theory, but I think Angel couldn’t change back & forth between his Archangel form because the writers needed to make sure Archangel couldn’t use his resurrection powers on the team. I don’t like that so many underrated characters got killed off right as they were primed to finally get to shine…But I do really love the idea of Mutant Police getting national approval & authority. It reminds me of military police like NCIS, or how reservation police have their own autonomy with the Indian Nations having sovereignty. X-Force getting this almost FBI level of power is very compelling. I would also like a subplot of the President having a few openly mutant secret service members. Or even one of the presidents children being a mutant.
This is further testament that the mutant reboot is lacklustre. In my opinion, Marvel is struggling after Krakoa. To try and infuse all these teams with the old "pre Krakoa" ideology is not believable. Krakoa worked because it was the next logical step. It was fresh and helped the readers love the mutants again. These post Krakoa titles just feel hollow. Like we've been here before. Marvel really needs to justify leaving Krakoa. Because at the moment, this reboot is not working.
@@tko3779 This whole reboot has been for the mcu. Mutants entering the mcu, so Marvel are going back to the beginning. But to so that, they eradicated Krakoa. A pointless move.
I get it. But what nation doesn’t have cracks. Nations with its issues could be fixed and addressed. Latveria isn’t perfect. But it’s odd Doom by himself can keep his country together but mutants can’t? Mutant arrogance pales in comparison to Doom. But nonetheless I get both sides. This issue is a descent start. There’s only two and half titles so far that I mess with. Uncanny X-Men and phoenix was hitting from jump street for me. I can’t get behind the artwork for X-Men, but the story isn’t bad. Same applies here.
Gotta say, I really like this issue. As for Feral, I feel like including her in the previews signals that she might come back. They didn’t show rusty and then replaced him with pyro, but maybe they’re planning on bringing her back at some point. At least that’s what I hope. Also, taking inspiration from stuff like x-statix doesn’t mean that it’s immediately bad. It’s its own thing with its own tone and story
This X Factor looks intriguing, I was a fan of Peter David and Larry Stroman’s/Joe Quesada’s X Factor, I loved old school Suicide Squad (particularly the late Keith Giffen and Paco Medina’s Suicide Squad with Sgt. Rock {yes _that_ Sgt.Rock} overseeing teams of villains getting wood chippered ) and Thunderbolts (in fact this XFactor _needs_ a team of proper Thunderbolts {Hawkeye, USAgent, Songbird, Thunderball, Ghost, Diamondback, Moonstone, and…Speedball {“You don’t join the Thunderbolts because you want to, but because you have to, & the CSA kinda remind Robbie Baldwin that joining the Thunderbolts is not like working for the US Postal Service} for….well the Government (in Marvel, and irl) has shady people that pit various agencies against each other (Ernie may be familiar with the “conflicts” Suicide Squad had with Checkmate, and I have a feeling the writer of X Factor may be familiar with the Suicide Squad/Checkmate stories as well).
you have to wonder: who dies next? money's on xyber cecilia reyes and granny smite kicking the bucket next maybe frenzy as well is morbid fascination x-factor's sales strategy? "buy this book to see which mutant dies!" 😂😂😂
Only bc I read them but in one of the last from the ashes infinty comic Havok was brought back from being a zombie by Maddie Pryor she cursed him in the first place
Honestly glad that I waited to see your review before picking this book up. After what they did to the initial team, if it isn’t obvious to everyone that this is going to be the book where the meat grinder all their POC in the name of cheap drama, I don’t know what to tell you. I’ve enjoyed From the Ashes in general. But this specific book, I’ll be actively boycotting.
@blerdwithoutfear --- i was also confused at why Havok is normal now, and not a zombie. It turns out Marvel did those weird (currently ongoing) Marvel Unlimited exclusive web comics to bridge the gap between krakoa & from the ashes. There is a 3 part series starring Alex & Maddie that's completely about him going from Zombie to Human again
i just double checked -- it's called "X-Men: From The Ashes Infinity Comic (2024)" -- issues #7-9 are the polaris/havok/madelyn story #1-3 is Scott/Jean before jean goes to space #4-6 is Charles explaining very explicitly that he IS prisoner X and #10-13 (only 10 is out right now) is some story about Omega Red
I'll just start my Running list of Who is in Krakoa Heaven from living there best lives (?) on earth lol. Lord this is going to be a book lol 😂 😂 Feeling for Feral for real though she never gets a clean break and everyone wonders why she never lets it all go when could she ever possibly have the time
Feral just getting taken out like that really pissed me off. I don't know if I'll stick to this too long but I'll give it 3-5 books maybe. not a fan of stories that keep killing their main characters
19:36 Then fix it! No nation has ever started out absolutely amazing and perfect! Wouldn’t a real world mutant nation have its own issues! Fix Krakoa but to just up and leave it…seems counter productive
i wish they just put Havok & Polaris back together already . Don't know what is going on with Havok and Madelyne Pryor and it sounds like they used a online comic to explain it . where Havok was turned back from a zombie to a human but that is all i heard and didnt read so i don't know what happen . i could be wrong didn't Feral have a healing factor her and her sister Thornn
You might want to review Marvel Unlimited 'From the Ashes' regarding Havok's returning back to normal appearance. It had more to do with Madeline as the Ruler of Limbo, then Mutant Resurrection. It also throws some light why Polaris and Havok versus Havok and Madeline's relationship. I picked up the issue last week and being a long time X-Men fan of decades, this new storyline since the Fall of Krakoa is so far being majority disappointing. The teams, the art work and the storylines don't seem to be delivering interest in men. The usage of many mainline heroes has been overdone or relegated to second banana story arcs that underutilizes them from build up that they had before and during the Krakoa era. The Kitty Pride/Emma Frost title is one that I'm looking forward to, but that arc and Cypher's becoming Revelation might be of some interest. The other question of Charles Xavier's and his action of destroying the Humans might be of some interest as well as Forge team, but so far, it hasn't had the same reaction like the House/Power of X or Fall of Krakoa.
This hot mess of smashup [x-force_x-static;ol' skool, mid-skool x-factor; mojo-ish] I'm not mad... just it gives me the ick Worse alex and warren have been so abused/misused And F'ing hellishly tormented +zombiefied... I just dont have any love for it
If ya kaints tell, i think alex summers needs a glow-up. Dude has never been allowed to grow or live up to powers/ leadership/wellness. Gabriel was a hyperaged/tramatized/mentally asulted/man-baby... but he still took over an interstellar empire. Scott is a frac tank of guilt, death eye fear, telepath dating bad habits, atlas complex, leadership tramasssssszZ but he still beat the f'ing void, kicked [a] out, saved hope, etc.......... Every step alex takes they kick him back 5 [We dont talk about adam x]
Killing off characters to 'raise the stakes' can go too far, to the point of the readers stop trying to get to know the characters/get attached to them, since they might be knocked off at any time.
Krakoa was an interesting change in the story line that should have stayed around for a bit. I will give these books a chance and maybe they will pick up. So far everything I have seen has been kind of boring.
Are super heroes and villains intrinsically status quo? Or is it a function of the need to sell books on a continuous basis? Even the most radical Marvel/DC stories reset to default. I guess if you took an Omega level telepath and had them manipulate all the classic ism's (racial, gender, religion, colorism, sexual orientation, etc) from the world, it's end of series from that point. However, it would make for some interesting ethical/moral/legal talking points. Example, in Invincible Mark fights the good fight against the "bad guys". But in the end he's as much a dictator and conquerer as anyone he fought. None of Mark's main "enemies" wanted to destroy Earth and humanity. In fact they all wanted to bring it into an age of enlightenment (at the price of self determination and freedom). Mark literally fulfills this as a tyrant, but we call him the hero because we like him and followed his story. It would be interesting to re-read Invincible from the point of view of the "villains". Would we be sympathetic with Omniman, Robot, or Space Freddy Mercury? I know this is a more Nerds of Culture comment. 🤔
x-factor # 1 was boring and lacked energy but i love the inclusion of angel in his original form i love his wings archangel should be another character so we can have both in the marvel universe i like feral as well and even firefist isn't bad despite his name who knows? maybe they still live 😂 cameo and xyber are expendable because they suck lame characters should be eliminated there are way too many mutants polaris and darkstar are unlikeable now - i hate how marvel has changed them - but both, along with havok, would be good members darkstar is beautiful i wonder if there will be a new team every issue? if so, this series will be a bloodbath!
It was in the previous arc of the X-Men: From the Ashes Marvel Unlimited digital comic. Turns out, Maddie could’ve properly brought Alex back to life at any time, but didn’t because she’s been abandoned and discarded so many times she was afraid he’d do it again if Alex didn’t need to depend on her.
Blerd, C’mon son, stop trying to be so positive, this book is gonna be hot trash thrown in a dumpster fire, it’s gonna be lucky if it makes 5-10 issues

These post Krakoa titles just feel hollow. Like we've been here before. Marvel really needs to justify leaving Krakoa. Because at the moment, this reboot is not working.
Nah
I pray we aren’t trying to get a baseline because the characters will start showing up in live action.
IMO the from the ashes era has produced some great reads so far.
@@tko3779 This whole reboot has been for the mcu. Mutants entering the mcu, so Marvel are going back to the beginning. But to so that, they eradicated Krakoa. A pointless move.
@@TrueComicsGuy I respectfully disagree. No titles have got me excited at all. It just feels like a rinse and repeat cycle.
Awesome debut issue mark russell was like I want to do x static meets the boys minis the religious bashing gratuitous sex and violence
I'm surprised that there's not a group of black mutants called The Brotherhood Of Black Mutants
So...Xyber is a less refined version of Jesse Bedlam???
Feels like what X-Force and then X-Tatic (think I spelled that right) became
you have to wonder: who dies next?
money's on
xyber
cecilia reyes
and
granny smite
kicking the bucket next
maybe frenzy as well
is morbid fascination x-factor's sales strategy?
"buy this book to see which mutant dies!"
😂😂😂
change is rarely good for those forced to undergo it
Havoc was brought back by Maddie in the Infiniti series
We love but we still carrying this torch for krakoa 😂
I think after Apocalypse told archangel he’s leaving earth. He lost his desire to become archangel.
Only bc I read them but in one of the last from the ashes infinty comic Havok was brought back from being a zombie by Maddie Pryor she cursed him in the first place
I really dug this book!
Also feral has a healing factor so she's most likely to still be alive
Honestly glad that I waited to see your review before picking this book up. After what they did to the initial team, if it isn’t obvious to everyone that this is going to be the book where the meat grinder all their POC in the name of cheap drama, I don’t know what to tell you. I’ve enjoyed From the Ashes in general. But this specific book, I’ll be actively boycotting.
It's a possible Nimrod is behind the door because that can make human love mutants again for saving them from the A.I robots
@blerdwithoutfear --- i was also confused at why Havok is normal now, and not a zombie. It turns out Marvel did those weird (currently ongoing) Marvel Unlimited exclusive web comics to bridge the gap between krakoa & from the ashes. There is a 3 part series starring Alex & Maddie that's completely about him going from Zombie to Human again
i just double checked -- it's called "X-Men: From The Ashes Infinity Comic (2024)" -- issues #7-9 are the polaris/havok/madelyn story
#1-3 is Scott/Jean before jean goes to space
#4-6 is Charles explaining very explicitly that he IS prisoner X
and #10-13 (only 10 is out right now) is some story about Omega Red
The trash taste Podcast audio in the background is killing me.😂
You should have a radio show.
Could've called it freedom force. Alot of the characters I like are in this book
Zeitgeist X-Force!!!
I'll just start my Running list of Who is in Krakoa Heaven from living there best lives (?) on earth lol. Lord this is going to be a book lol 😂 😂 Feeling for Feral for real though she never gets a clean break and everyone wonders why she never lets it all go when could she ever possibly have the time
I mean, it works for the Russian Winter Guard and Mikhail Rasputin.
I kinda like this comic... but I liked secret x men and I also liked the new mutants (dawn of X)... it's just different and seems like it could be fun
This legit would have worked better as a Krakoan story.
I think everyone knows Krakoa was shady. America is shady. I don't think that's why people miss Krakoa.
This issue made me so mad! Two characters, Rusty and Feral, are killed off in such a careless way. We just got them back! Sigh
Feral just getting taken out like that really pissed me off. I don't know if I'll stick to this too long but I'll give it 3-5 books maybe. not a fan of stories that keep killing their main characters
That’s right just get rid of the only thing that made Angel useful , his archangel powers , that’s really good😢
Blerd, good breakdown as always. I’m a krakoa person but i thought the joke was funny 😂 any thoughts on the X-Statix inspiration?
Bishop should have led this team!
19:36 Then fix it! No nation has ever started out absolutely amazing and perfect! Wouldn’t a real world mutant nation have its own issues! Fix Krakoa but to just up and leave it…seems counter productive
I wonder why they introduced xyber instead of using Bedlam.
i wish they just put Havok & Polaris back together already .
This hot mess of smashup [x-force_x-static;ol' skool, mid-skool x-factor; mojo-ish]
I'm not mad... just it gives me the ick
Worse alex and warren have been so abused/misused And F'ing hellishly tormented +zombiefied...
Every step alex takes they kick him back 5
[We dont talk about adam x]
Killing off characters to 'raise the stakes' can go too far, to the point of the readers stop trying to get to know the characters/get attached to them, since they might be knocked off at any time.
Well, much better than Exeptional at least...
Of all the comics in the From the Ashes era, X-Factor is easily my least favorite.
You look so good shaved up bro
I do believe Feral has a healing factor so why kill her so easily
Krakoa was an interesting change in the story line that should have stayed around for a bit. I will give these books a chance and maybe they will pick up. So far everything I have seen has been kind of boring.
Just bring back the New Warriors!!!
Bring back krakoa
So what happened to madelyne and the tower and why isnt Havok still with her?
87❤
x-factor # 1 was boring and lacked energy
but i love the inclusion of angel in his original form
i love his wings
archangel should be another character so we can have both in the marvel universe
i like feral as well
and even firefist isn't bad despite his name
who knows? maybe they still live 😂
cameo and xyber are expendable because they suck
lame characters should be eliminated
there are way too many mutants
polaris and darkstar are unlikeable now - i hate how marvel has changed them - but both, along with havok, would be good members
darkstar is beautiful
i wonder if there will be a new team every issue?
if so, this series will be a bloodbath!
So what happened to Madilyn Pryor?
Why are Alex and Lorna back together? He was with Maddie.
@@Popcultureguy3000 awesome thanks!
Man this is X-static, not interested in this book. Sucks that Feral is gone and Cameo could have been interesting character.
I havent read after Krakoa. It feels like u got dumped for no reason, broken heart and i wont be reading these books bcz it make no sense to me
Blerd, C’mon son, stop trying to be so positive, this book is gonna be hot trash thrown in a dumpster fire, it’s gonna be lucky if it makes 5-10 issues
Not buying. Thanks marvel and Disney for helping me save money than buying xbooks garbage comics.
This is much better than krakoa. I love mutants fighting each other instead of working together against human bigotry.
This is the one of the worst x-men comics I've ever read
This book is trash.
This isnt anything new at all kids. X Factor had the very same stories in the 90s kids
I was not happy about Farell. Not at all. But maybe she's OK. Maybe it's a show. It feels like the sort of thing a sketchy organization may do.
Cuz I feel like Havok may be upset about that.
