If you want to get to scratch quick, try this: Play the tips and shoot the same scores. If you shoot 72-75 from the tips, the course rating is anywhere from 73-75, so you'll lower your handicap fast. The handicap system accounts for the tees you play, and if you're low single figure you can probably play back a teebox or two and still shoot 74.
I stopped watching after you talked about number of putts. Even Lou Stagner (of Arccos fame) has said that is a useless stat and should be thrown in the garbage. It is completely dependent on how far your first putt is (and therefore, your approach/short game). Does not give any actionable info on your putting.
I'm a single digit golfer. My short game is very good. My driver is longer and more accurate than scratch. I've been as low as 1 but am playing more like 6 right now. When I was playing around 1 I was hitting 12 to 14 girs per round but I had a tournament where I hit 15 greens and had 11 3 putts. Shot 80 8 over. I decide to work hard on the short game. My putting is a lot better and my chipping is money. But now I can't hit a green to save my life. Maybe 6 to 9 a round. My bogey count has jumped my birdie count has dropped and even though my driver is usually 10 out of 12 on the driving holes the 2 misses are almost always disaster holes. Double bogeys if I have to rehit bogey if I'm lucky enough to have to punch out I have had a couple eagles on a par 5 and a 320 yd par 4 that was close to an ace. I feel like I am playing ok I am just not scoring. Golf is very frustrating right now. Bright side is I have been making a lot more putts inside 10 ft. Downside is I have had multiple round where I was even thru 14 holes but the other four holes are killing me. Plus 6 to eight including 2 triples one each round. Any suggestions
Averaging over 2 birdies a round is crazy. That means some rounds you're getting none, some rounds you're getting 4 or 5 birdies. Crazy.
I set goal targets all the time. Break 100. So far last 5 rounds have been +5 to +3 so I guess mine works
Im surprised by the numbers, i was expecting like 90% accuracy and GIRs
Does that data set show how often driver is used for par 4/5 holes at scratch?
This is a fantastic video and covers the majority of the most important factors to become a scratch golfer. Thank you for all the stats too.
One thing I always question about putting averages relative to one’s handicap. On the surface it seems cut and dry but if it’s not taking into consideration the avg distance for 1,2,3 putts which is a direct correlation of avg distance to pin of approach shots it quickly becomes a chicken or the egg scenario. I think it’s rather foolish to try to become better at making putts outside of 8-10 feet when you could just as easily focus on better approach shots especially 125 yards and in. Everyone knows the best putters are the best at getting it close to the hole on the approach shot.
Is that 259 driving total or carry?
great channel... enjoy your content very much...
This was really well done.

Liked the video. Working on chipping and putting takes pressure off having to hit the green. Amazingly enough, when that pressure is removed, you hit more greens. Also, it's "Landing" not "Ladning".
Those stats suggest a scratch player is averaging around 4 over par.
