      No. Welding and soldering are two different processes. Welding is seamlessly joining materials together it can be metal or it can be thermoplastics. But welding involves melting the material to create the join.
      Soldering is when you heat two parts and use solder which has a lower melting point to join them or create an electrical connection.
      This can also describe brazing. Brazing is hotter and not suitable for all metals and it also always involves capillary action, which may or may not be employed in soldering.
      Yes this may look like a soldering iron, but it is being used to weld plastic. That’s what it was made for.

Friend and I put a V8 in an '86 Ford Ranger, took the heater housing and cut the corner that interfered with the valve cover, flipped the curve to dish in. Smoothed it all out welding it with a soldiering iron and a sacrificial 2nd heater box. Took the truck to car shows and there was always somebody that would ask where we bought that heater housing. Made some diy wheel wells for a coworker at a dealership I worked at out of old license plates and accidentally put a screw into his washer fluid tank. So I just found a piece of thin plastic laying around and used my mini torch to melt it into the hole. Held for another 6 months until I quit to work in the oil refineries.

    You can buy an aftermarket bumper cover from Rock Auto for less than the tool. Bumper cover for my daughter's 2011 Elantra was $29.24...

      Aftermarket parts are junk and fit like junk

    • @joeydover
      @joeydover ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HackMasterBlaster People complain about aftermarket fit fail to make the realization that the accident that made the repair necessary to begin with could cause misalignment. If the structure man is good, the part will fit near perfect. If he sucks, even the OEM part will look like Fido's ass when it is put back on. The fitment issue is usually from a lazy tech just trying to turn more hours and not taking the time to get the structure back to where it belongs. It's like painting directly over e-coat. Yeah it will get the car out the shop quickly but won't last. Plus the stitching repair is changing the molecular structure of the OEM panel, possibly warping it or making it brittle.

    It doesn't stick. It might work though. Best repairs that I perform on the regular is using an air/nitrogen welder. That iron we use is to smooth out the plastic after you've welded in the split.

    Hey I did that to fill 6 holes in my moms CTS-V bumper. Turned out so smooth it looked like a black mirror.

    Repairing a cracked windshield washer fluid reservoir with a hot glue gun. Run the hot tip of the gun over the path of the crack slowly to melt the plastic a little and then melt the glue into the melted plastic. Turned out great and is still working 20 years later. The end result was an invisible repair, it was the same opaque color!

    So the wire mesh works but you have to make sure to use an argon heater on it afterwards and the plastic rod will 100% crack and flake off only use an argon heater to melt plastic using just heat drys out the plastic and makes it brittle

    I always just used thin gauge wire through drilled holes twisted up tight and some gb ties for filler. This seems better but my dirt bike fender still works.

    I normally melt in the wire mesh, then use semi rigid bumper repair on the backside and flexible bumper repair on the outside
