Robert..I too had the honor of seeing them as well. It was in Dec. of 1969 just after the release of their first album, which hadn't been favorably accepted by a lot of ignorant folk, except for Rolling Stone magazine. The ticket to the show was my birthday present. The show was at a small auditorium in Georgetown, Ky. When we arrived at the one and only door , there was no one there to even take our tickets!. We walked to the front row, which was maybe 4 feet from this small stage and sat down in these wooden chairs. They walked on stage and proceeded to tear it slap down with their unmistakable sound! They played as if they were playing to hundreds of people, though there were only MAYBE 75 people there!!! After playing Trouble No More and Don't Want You No More and on and on for at least a couple of hours, they took a break, walked to the back of that little stage and sat down on the floor to partake of drink and weed, just as we were. No one around who objected. After a few minutes, they came back up front and played for another hour. Un- believable evening, so incredible I recall it as if it were yesterday! We watched them leave that snowy night in the back of a station wagon. The next year, they were playing at Fillmore East and were finally beginning to get the recognition they so deserved. The following year, Duane was gone. The year after that, Berry was gone....in the same way and in almost the same location. Tragic times.. That first album that was so ignored in 1969, was remixed, re released in 1973 I think, and sold over 500,000 copies. And to think, only 4 years earlier, I experienced The Allman Brothers...Gregg, Duane, Dickie, Berry and Butch.... live.... on a small stage in Georgetown, Ky!! Once in a lifetime experience and best birthday present EVER!!!
It just hit hard at the slide pic at 0:53 that THE TWO BROTHERS who are the real South and all its unique regional life as we know it,.... have both now left us. This south I was born in and have known 50 years has shifted to another time. Lest us not forget the badass in Dwayne and Greg. Two regular dudes from the South who did great things for the world. God love them both.
🍄I've seen the allman Brothers 17 times. Still my favorite band. Ive been studying Duane's slide style for 30 years. Still haven't mastered it. Don't think I ever will. His touch was magnificently one of a kind. BTW this is my favorite slide solo by Duane. The whole album is great .✴
Don't feel too bad I'm not sure anyone will master it, except for maybe Derek Trucks haha Duane has an endless amount of great slide solos but I agree that this is his best. This song is just the perfect blues song.
Ever see em in Grant Park or Macon? I was teenager in Columbus GA...saw them a few times. Duane's secret , so I I've read, was that he tried to make his guitar "slide through notes like a harmonica." That and he taught himself slide while using a pill bottle from the drugstore. Greg brought him some medicine cause he was ailin. Then as luck would have it when I went in the Navy, I got stationed at Mayport FL and got to see some early Skynyrd. Mix in some Hank Jr. and you have a hell of a trifecta!
Silver, I have a couple slide related lesson videos on my YT channel. Like anything . ..It's going to boil down to practice to keep the extra strings from ringing out. Lots of muting with both hands. I have some exercises that cover that. Good luck man. Thanks for reaching out. T

Trucks good also
Lowell George was pretty fantastic also
Slide fans, check out Sonny Landreth. You won't regret it.
You ain’t kidding Steve. Amazing to think what he would have done in 5, 10, or even 50 years?
Music the way it should be played.
Possibly the greatest blues song of all time.
have you not heard the original by blind willie mctell?
OK.....by a white SOUTHERNER....for white SOUTHERNERS
@@loureed1226 I said the best blues song ever. of course the writer of the song deserves plenty of credit.
@@loureed1226 credit to the origi al writer, but this version is about 10 to 15 times better than blind Willie's imo.
I'm here for Greg's soul ripping vocals
And to think, only 4 years earlier, I experienced The Allman Brothers...Gregg, Duane, Dickie, Berry and Butch.... live.... on a small stage in
Georgetown, Ky!! Once in a lifetime experience and best birthday present EVER!!!
Thank you Skydog.....You will live in our hearts forever. I still believe nobody will catch your brilliance.
I love you Gregg Allman and always will. So bummed you had to leave us today. Total heartbreak.
Greg,bluesman till the end...💝
RIP Duane Allman. 50 years gone.
The man could play that slide, incredible!
And all because he fell off a horse.
Hats off to Blind Willie McTell!!
One of the most off the charts songs 🎵
Incredible performance by the entire band
The greatest live album ever , Fillmore East !
Easily the greatest!
Truth
Always loved 🥰 blues & Jazz etc the best
🍄I've seen the allman Brothers 17 times. Still my favorite band. Ive been studying Duane's slide style for 30 years. Still haven't mastered it. Don't think I ever will. His touch was magnificently one of a kind. BTW this is my favorite slide solo by Duane. The whole album is great .✴
Awesome!
Don't feel too bad I'm not sure anyone will master it, except for maybe Derek Trucks haha Duane has an endless amount of great slide solos but I agree that this is his best. This song is just the perfect blues song.
Honey. Keep at it. Seems to be a lost art with today's music. Good luck
Yes,Duane and Greg were the oooooriginal Blues Brothers..
This was just what I needed to hear today. I've had one sh**ty day. Thank you.
amen
Duane, Berry, Greg, Butch … RIP brothers
