@@TheFamicastI already have the Famicom Joycons, so I prefer the American version with the golden cartridge, which btw is very very cool once you have it in your hands
That’s really cool! When I was at Nintendo Osaka in April, it seemed like they had the same system. I had no need to pick them up, so I can’t completely confirm, but they had the controllers on the shelves. - Danny
We bought both versions. I picked up our American version from GameStop today, and our Japanese one is on its way. In terms of quality, it appears Japan has once again received the better package. Even the fold out box is so much nicer than ours, which is just stacked in together. It would have been nice to see a pair of NES controllers with the US version as well. The gold cart is... okay, I guess. Addendum- I'm happy we were able to grab both versions before they are all gone. We don't support digital only media for obvious reasons. In 10 years, if I decide to play it, I know it won't be delisted by Nintendo.
I got both US and Japanese versions for a complete NWC collection, I love the differences between the two versions with collectibles. I also got the Club Nintendo NWC trucker hat, a whopping 1200 points but thankfully I had enough. What I like about the US version is the gold NWC cartridge, for those that don’t know back in the day in 1990 during the NWC championships Nintendo Power Magazine held a giveaway contest for an official NWC cart, the only caveat was that about only 30 gold NWC carts were ever made and are extremely rare and cost serious money. NWC carts(gray or gold) are some of the rarest pieces of video game history, period. So it’s nice of Nintendo to give a nod to the almost non-existent gold cart since it was so highly sought after.
I'm organizing a Nintendo World Championships tournament at my local convention coming up, and the grand prize is the standard physical version from Japan. I unlocked most of the challenges already. I downloaded it from the eShop, and ready to take one anyone for the tournament.
The US people complain about their edition, be happy coz ypu can buy it everywhere. In Europe only via Nintendo itself. Webshop is broken so lots of people misses out, results are: Ebay and local used shops are full of them being sold for 150€+
I was going to do that, but I lucked out where amazon Japan had one special edition with the amazon exclusive left, so I bought it. Won't get it till the end of the month

And the microphone DOES work in a few games on the Japanese Famicom app. Most notably, there are a few things you can do in the original Zelda and Kid Icarus. I actually made a couple of videos about those years ago detailing how to do it. - Danny
Surprisingly here this version is easily picked up on any store at even below cost but the standard version is sold out in so many places... Japanese people don't want the controllers maybe😅
The North American packaging was more compact, with all the goodies jammed inside that box that was super hard to open (and it was great to finally look at all the stuff once I was able to get inside the box). But the Japanese packaging seems like they went the extra step to make it even more special, plus those Famicom controllers are *chef’s kiss*. Wish the North American set came with an option to bundle the NES controllers with the set, but I see they’re currently discounted on the Nintendo website, so there’s that.
Just picked up both versions. I like the japan version of the cards as they have the title screens which I dig. However the gold cart is nice display piece - especially growing up with the oroginal NES.

The pins aren't the same. I have both versions. The Japan pins are embossed and have more 3D textured feel. However the US version has a smoother feel. The designs are pretty much the same (except the NES world championship pin) but the text is thinner on the US version and thicker on the Japan version.

Thanks for the comment. Ya know, I don't think I mentioned the price of the set, but it's right around ¥10,000, which is something like $65 USD right now, give or take. You MIGHT be able to find a set on Amazon Japan. Not sure if you'll be able to get it shipped outside of Japan, though. - Danny

Does the Japanese version show the NA art within the game when language is changed to English? Or does everything say the Famicom version with the game but the directions and in game text is English?
It’s all based on your system settings. So if you have it set to English, you’ll see the NA art and English text. Japanese, the Japanese art and text. - Danny
I would pick up the japanese version. The NES Version, the Game Cardridge Prop doesn't make sense just looking beautiful. But here you get famicom joycons

Nintendo should reach out to Konami, Capcom, and Koei-Tecmo to add 3rd Party DLC. I would say Square Enix too, but there aren't too many challenges you could make from turn-based RPGs.
I was literally thinking about the same kind of thing today! lol! And yeah, I think companies like Capcom and Konami would be perfect for that kind of thing. Maybe Bandai Namco, too. We'll see! Seeing as Nintendo does have a lot of IP on the NES/Famicom app, it might be possible to try to, at the very least, work with those companies and bring over some of those titles. - Danny
if u get the japanese version does it play for USA region in english, or does it play in english but goes through "Japanese" leaderboards? Also are those controllers smaller/mini?
So what would be the best way to go about getting this version in the US? Currently there is no way to buy it on Play-Asia. They only have the standard edition. This is a really cool package too.
Special edition video games might be the worst value of keychains, stickers, coins, shirts whatever. They always cost like $100-$300 and come with nothing worth anything close to that.

It's interesting to see how this has been presented internationally.
