  • Most of my patients want faster recovery after facelift surgery and to get back to doing normal activities as soon as possible. In this video, I, Dr. Julian De Silva, discuss a range of treatments based on the latest scientific evidence to aid healing and recovery. A combination of treatments is often best indicated that is tailored to the specific facial surgery, including facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty.
How can I Speed up recovery after facelift surgery?
    I cover in this video:
    1 Proper Rest and time
    2 Oxygen Therapy
    3 Light Therapy (LED)
    4 Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
    5 Cold Therapy & Ice
6 Regenerative Medicine & Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
    7 Nutritional Supplements
    8 Patient Measures
    And my personal tips!
In general, I advise patients to take at least three weeks to rest before getting back to joining social and professional events. However, some patients take longer. Given this, how long one recovers from facial surgery varies. Fortunately, certain treatments can help you recover faster after facial surgery.
In addition to these measures, please follow your surgeon's pre-surgery guidelines.
    My guidelines include the following:
    ● Avoid medicines or herbal treatments with blood thinners. These include non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (e.g. ibuprofen), aspirin, vitamin E, and fish oils. You must avoid them for two weeks before and after surgery. Remember, blood thinners can result in increased bruising, swelling, and risk of bleeding after surgery.
    ● Please do not schedule any important social events, commitments, trips, and the like for three weeks after your surgery. Resting during this period is essential. If you don’t rest properly, you will likely suffer from increased swelling and a slower recovery period.
    ● Alcohol and caffeine-containing beverages are potent blood vessel dilators. Hence, they promote bruising, swelling, and bleeding in the target area. I advise avoiding alcohol and caffeine intake for a minimum of one week before and after your surgery.
    ● Avoid Viagra and Viagra-like medications (Cialis) for two weeks before and one week after your surgery.

Thanks for the tips, I did them all & recovered wicked fast!! Also drank 18oz of organic celery juice with 4oz of pineapple CORE juice (that's where all the bromalaine is, in the core) & also, 18oz of pure organic cucumber juice daily too, kept myself very hydrated before & after surgery. You must plan ahead! I also hired private duty professional nursing care for 48 hours after my surgery and they iced me every 20 minutes, Around the Clock, CRITICALLY IMPORTANT!! It has only been 6 days and I am so good!! I think many people don't take the recovery process serious enough, if you do, you'll be thrilled with the results!

Very useful. Thank you Dr De Silva. Will a 14-hour flight be the same as oxygen therapy (I'm not being facetious). Also, is PRP effective with older patients in their 70s?

Hi I had one 1 month and 1 day ago. I also had a lip lift. I am looking normal with very mild (people don’ t notice ) swelling. I met a friend 1 week ago and she didn’t notice. So I will say 3 weeks you look kind of normal with inflammation that other people don’t really notice.

I just had a face and neck lift by Dr. Niamtu and was told to sleep as I normally do because getting a good rest is important. Although, I did sleep upright my choice vs. flat on my right and left side just make sure your head doesn’t roll forward so you don’t get tech neck.
