Just found you and let me thank you for this! My alpha legion needs it's scales and i can't paint well enough to make them look real. This is a lifesaver! Cheers!!
2 videos in such a short space of time! Youre spoiling us good sir! These sculpting videos are really inspiring, makes me want to dig out and pick up some old projects!
Really nice work, I found that moisturiser works even better than water for lubricating your sculpting tools. Used it plenty on my silicon shaper for my most recent sculpting vid & it glided effortlessly. Fantastic tutorial, man
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures No worries, man. I was using Milliput which is more adhesive & less elastic than Kneadatite/Greenstuff. They handle rather differently in sptie of both being 2 part epoxy putties. I'm rather lazy when it comes to sculpting too, recently got called out for not wearing gloves whilst sculpting because someone remarked there was a visible fingerprint on my piece. Long story short, I know exactly where you're coming from, dude Looking forward to your next vid. Keep up the good work
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Cool, man. Yeah, you totally should. It's certainly cheaper & I prefer to use it for shaping the main body of the model (since it's better at holding its shape) & opt to use kneadatite for finer details; cloaks, fur & such. Go for it, man. I'll certainly watch that vid
@@jordangoldup9818 it will but the technique would be a bit different as milliput is not elastic. But the steps would be the same, just tye putty will behave differently
I wish I got something as fancy, but canon of course, I'm a little canon bitch. I got a Canon M50, it's more than enough for what I need and I also got an 18-150mm lens.
Great tutorial :D. If you were covering a larger mini with scales (let's say a dragon) where you can't get the full covering in one go, would you sculpt the scales top to bottom, bottom to top, from the middle, or something else?
How long have you been in the hobby, Juan? Your control of brush and sculpting tool is so perfect. Any tips on specific ways to practice brush control?
I started around 97, it was with the release of 5th edition Fantasy, I remember that very well. I had the obligatory gap later on of about 5-6 years and went back about 6 years ago. For brush control, I do have tips yes. Use a LARGE BRUSH, the larger you can handle that has a nice tip and paint everything with it, from layers to eyes, to Freehand. I personally recommend Space Marines. My favourite Brushes are the rosemary and co series 33 size 3 and 4. Learn to control large brushes and you will learn brush control without even noticing. You will also never like small Brushes again, they are useless.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thank you, that's all very useful to know. I've been working my way through your videos and as soon as I'm able, I plan on becoming a patron. I really like your work. Its very clean!
I hope a lot of members of the amazing FB group are here! I just want to say though we all are noobs here! The only way to be better is admitting you are a noob and learning!
That's the best thing about starting this channel. I've learned a ton of things and I'm a better person by it. Video and audio editing, Photoshop, using a proper camera, speaking to an audience and that's just the basic skills. Most important for me is its made me think in the steps and the reasoning of what I do when I'm painting and sculpting. I've learned a lot about myself that way. Anyway mate, thanks for watching! 😘

Another phenomenal tutorial! If you're looking for suggestions on topics, I would love to see a tutorial on how to sculpt hoods onto unhooded heads.
Thanks for the suggestion! I will consider it

Thanks mate! I always try to publish one video a week to please the algorithm.
I always encourage people to go and try sculpting, it's very good fun
I would love to see this used on some of the new Lumineth models to make scales on their lower robes.
That is a great idea
You are truly a DragonMaster Juan! Awesome tutorial.
Thanks mate 😘
An excellent technique tutorial, but combine your voice with the background music and this was an ASMR video!
Next time I will add ASMR to the title! That way the almighty algorithm might notice me

My issue with moisturizer and vaseline is that you have to wash your piece afterwards if you want to add more putty on top, and I'm lazy
😂

I love your sculpting videos, you make it look so easy¡. When will we see a sculpting fur tutorial, so we can use it on Space Wolves and Aos armies???
Soon
Very handy tutorial, thank you! If you take suggestions, might I suggest a fur tutorial?
It's already coming
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Awesome!
If you were planning on using this technique to make scale mail would you do it directly on the model?
Of course, always sculpt directly over the Miniature. This is just for showcase purposes
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thanks, this will be very helpful for converting my Rohan royal guard.
Nice! What a great idea
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Would Milliput be suitable for this?

Nice. Interested in what mirrorless camera you got have the sony A7 myself, though that's more for stills :)
I wish I got something as fancy, but canon of course, I'm a little canon bitch. I got a Canon M50, it's more than enough for what I need and I also got an 18-150mm lens.
Would you then just wrap this to make scale mail? Any advice for doing this on an existing 3d figure?
Just sculpt it over the mini! The technique is the same, this is just a very convenient way of showing it

Thanks mate, much appreciated.
I work very hard to make the videos as simple and easy to follow as possible.
Great tutorial! Would it work on shoulder pads or are they too curved?
Of course it would! Most important part is the initial crossed lines, be sure to make those as well as possible
Can you heat cured greenstuff to shape it?
Not really. Just sculpt over the surface you want!
This is just to showcase the technique
Would this still work on arms, legs or shoulders since they are curved, if curved matters ?
Yes, of course it would. It's obviously a bit harder but 100% works
Cool thank you
