Goslings love is simple to explain. Would never drink it neat, but it is usually the only decent rum you can find in your average boozer. Sometimes find Pussers in some pubs, but it’s getting rarer. It’s like the Jameson of the dark rum world. Are there better rums out there? Yes. Can you find any of them when you go pubbing? No. Are you still happy with Goslings? Yes
Pretty much spot on with that! 👌
Your channel has inspired me to buy my first 4 bottles of rum. Appleton 8, Don Q 7, Flor De Cana 4, Skippers Demerara. A lot of thought has gone into this, I hope I'm going to be happy!
Good stuff!
Plantation OD was my go to but I picked up a bottle of WP109 based on your earlier review and it has become a favorite. We’ll see come summer if I need both or just the WP109.
Just stumbled on to the channel and loving this kind of content. Bounty Dark wasn't on my radar at all. Thanks!
Welcome aboard! Glad to have you with us!
Steve I've been following yourself since before you turned primarily into a rum channel. Facebook memories popped up the other day with the start of my rum collection because of watching you. 3 bottles, plantation OD, Havana 3yr and Bacardi 8 ( which was a gift). I'm now up to 39 bottles. Most of which I've purchased because of you, and some standard ones that have been gifted. My tiny mind is constantly being surprised the more I try new rums and the more I learn from you so thank you. I suppose what I mean to say is I'm guessing bottle 40 will be the bounty dark rum to try. Keep up the great work
Hahaha. Good work my Friend. Thats a really decent collection.
I've found a spiked chai to be quite enjoyable with the Plantation OD - from chilled, sweetened and with milk over ice or with just the hot tea and the rum all alone.
Hey Steve, you should try and review the OG Indian cult rum brand - Old Monk.
Watching this video again on ps5….Bounty Is really good. I’m finishing first bottle but will re-stock another ones. In Poland it’s still 22 € per bottle. Great rum !!!!
Good to hear! 🫶
Bounty is a very good rum I have had it st Lucian made
Thanks for the video. I really like the the videos where you compare similar rums from different brands. Why was the Takamaka Extra Noir not included?
Aside from the fact that they are very transparent how they make their rums; they taste quite good (at least in my opinion).
Because I haven’t got a bottle of it 👌
OD neat for me :) But..if I can find the WP109 i'll grab one..hopefully it's nothing like the OFTD (yuck)
OFTD is insanely good. Honestly, if you don’t like that, don’t go near the Worthy 109. Obvs it isn’t for you 👍
Tell your fans how dark rums get so dark. Maybe they don't know. Maybe they should.
You should rephrase that to "how SOME dark rums get so dark"... as you'd actually be surprised at how many Rums i feature are actually heavily aged in Heavily charred barrels. You have to remember, while most brands use e150 which is a caramel colour (not flavour) there is a BIG HUGE difference between adjusting for consistency between batches which is roughly 0.01% in a bottle...to actually using Caramel Colouring to turn a White Rum Dark....
Unfortunately none of'em but one (Plantation OD) are available these days in Moscow((( But hope the best is yet to come😉🤝🥂
There are Bounty, Eldorado and Pusser's in Moscow.
I know perfectly well ' bout Eldorado,(plenty of shapes and sorts), Pusser's,(except 15 yo/) I meant the others. Never seen Bounty and Mayers@@dydnik1988
How does the Rosemullion Dark compare to the Goldstone
Rosemullion is great…but…not in the same playground. Rosemullion is Coloured and Sweetened. Goldstones is purely rapidly aged with Charred Cognac, Sherry, Bourbon and Cherry Tree decommissioned Barrels “wood chips”.
@@StevetheBarmanRumReviews
I’ll give the Goldstone a run, interestingly on the Rosemullion website says the following
Please note - the colours of our products are natural. We don’t use colourants, so some natural colour variation will exist between batches.
It does acknowledge some sweetning but not how much
I think it’s a bit odd to do a rum & coke test solely with Coke Zero. If you order a rum & coke with no further explanation, you’re going to get rum with Coca Cola, not Zero.
Sure, it would make sense to do a “rum & Zero” test in addition to one with “ordinary” coke, as Zero has made a lot of inroads in bars and at home, but having only the Zero as a benchmark seems an odd choice when comparing “cocktail rums”.
As for the ginger beer combo, it’s a bit unclear to me whether it’s testing a straight rum & ginger beer or a “Stormy”, which should have lime juice added (and possibly Angostura as well). This is a fairly important difference.
Note that when using a “fiery” ginger beer, like Fever Tree, in a Dark ‘n Stormy, I find the addition of Angostura less necessary, as the ginger beer in itself provides enough heat and spiciness. However, the lime is always essential for balancing the sweetness of the rum and the ginger beer, no matter which brand of the latter you’re using.
Mixing/confusing, dark rum and spice rum is the worst than comparing apples and oranges or truck tires
Why are you confused? Who mentioned Spiced Rum in this video?!
Shocked myers has supporters who are into rum maybe someday they’ll taste a good dark Jamaican like Coruba and realize the error of their ways, Myers reserve was pretty decent though enjoy that one
Coruba dark is not available in the UK/EU.
@@cjsky5822oh damn my condolences at least you can get WP 109
Coruba dark is available in the EU (€24,95)
th-cam.com/video/eyzZaHyCQMM/w-d-xo.html WP109 is caramel colored
It's obviously coloured... No idea why he would think that is natural 😅
Cos there’s a difference between adding e150 to adjust for consistency and actually adding lots of caramel to make a white rum dark. The simple fact is, if you age rum in an intensely charred barrel, it’s gonna become dark even within a month. Take Goldstones Rum. It’s that colour after 20 days without no e150. SO. while Worthy may add e150 to adjust, I’m not 100% convinced…in fact I highly doubt…that Worthy colour their White rum, like some other brands in that line up!!!
@@StevetheBarmanRumReviews WP use a blend to create 109, including unaged rum so it's going to have colouring to make it that dark. Point is, a lot or a little, it is coloured. The debate in rum forums has been if the bitterness is coming from the blend/wood or from the colouring.
No Plateray OFTD?
Mentioned why not in the video 👍
