Damn man what did i do? Feels good to know i have the top rated rum on the year. My spending has gotten out of hand, too. So many of the spirit world has influenced me to pick up a bunch of bottles
I feel you...The amount of bottles i've bought this year and last because of Lucas Assis and Stories and Sips is kinda crazy. And that's not even Rum lol
Glad to see you thought as highly of the Serrano Blend #2 as I did I, our lists have some overlap. Good recap and I enjoy your content!
Thanks Cogan! I was glad to see we had some overlap. Love your list. That Pere Labat 2009 was phenomenal! I was going to create a category called “the rum I’ve only tried once and can’t stop thinking about” because I think about it all the time. Might have to pull the trigger on a bottle
Been thinking about grabbing a terrioir volcanique and you just convinced me! Great content as always, you are truly the most informative rum content creator out there and have never steered me wrong as I've built up my collection. I hope you find some great rums in 2024 to share with us!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
It’s definitely worth picking up, I often reach for it as a little sipper
Great takes, looking forward to expanding my rum journey in 2024 beyond foursquare and the classics. Cheers.
Thank you and cheers!
I can't wait to see all the cool rams for next year
Me too!
Nice picks! I always enjoy your videos and appreciate you taking the hit in the bank account so others can make better, more informed, rum purchases.
I’m mostly a scotch/bourbon/mezcal guy but I started getting into rums this year. I’ve really enjoyed the Hampden 8 and the Doorlys 14.
Keep up the great work my friend!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad my pain is others gain lol Both the Hampden and Doorlys are fantastic. Cheers!
I was so excited to watch this, I trust your opinion on Rum maybe more than anyone, so this was of great interest to me. It reminded me that I gotta go drop some cash on that amazing Hampden collection, Bitters & Bottles still has some available! Also, my biggest takeaway was that new release from Rhum J.M. I actually fall in that category of folks who are still struggling to acquire a taste for Agricole, so maybe that will jump start my interest, and I love using Rhum J.M. products in cocktails, so it's perfect. I'll keep an eye out for those crazy La Maison & Velier bottles, looks amazing. Thanks, Arminder!
Yeah, I think that Rhum JM Terroir Volcanique really is a great rum, neat or as a mixer. Definitely try it in an old fashioned as well. Just realized its the mid way point of the year... maybe I'll do a best rums of the year (so far) video.
@@therumrevival that would be awesome. I mean… it’ll probably be LBI/DHE El Dorado so far 😅
I literally bought Terroir Volcanique because the label was so good!
A good label goes a long way!
Great list
Thank you!
My favorite this year is Grander 10yr Panama Toasted Barrels Rum. It is 106 proof aged 11 months in Woodford bourbon barrels. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. I’m just starting out and look forward to where this might lead. Happy New Year
Thanks for sharing your favorite. I'll keep an eye out for it. Happy New Year!
Looking sharp! Great video 👏👏
Thank you!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you so much for the great vids this year! If there's a Patreon in the works, I'll be one of the first to sign up. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! If I can get my act together in the New Year I might put together a Patreon. Happy New Year!
Earlier this summer I bought the Rhum JM Volcanique based on needing some Rhum for Mai Tai's and of course the gorgeous label and bottle. It is fantastic sipped neat. Finding all the other rums is impossible, even in Austin, TX. There is a store on South Lamar that has curated an excellent selection of rums, and that's where I got the Volcanique. But it does not have any of the others. I'll join you in the In Memoriam to the bank account. Your channel, along with several others, has done serious damage... but I'm happy with all my purchases.
For some reason I've never tried it in a Mai Tai. Totally correcting that this weekend. Also, I wish rum distribution was a bit more even throughout the country. My apologizes to your bank account lol.
I approve of everything here except the notch lapels. 😂 I'm old!!
My own bests are going up, uhh, today sometime? But yeah, those old Angosturas are stupid-good and I wish the official bottlings reflected that style a bit more...
hahah - Looking forward to your list!
Great video, I shared almost all of your picks! Although, now you have me feeling like I should have picked up that Trinidad 2002 when I saw it in store. Usually not super interested in TDL products, but you make it sound incredible!
I had low expectations for the Trinidad. I was much more excited about the Flag Guyana. I probably would have never picked it up at a store, but I ended up trying it at NY RUm Fest and it immediately blew me away!
Very enjoyable! Best paper is that even living in Alabama (a rum wasteland), I actually have all of those save 2! Very nice list
That is awesome! You, my friend, have great taste lol
Dress sharp and fabulous. This is the best video for the end of the year, I hope you continue with more success next year. Also, let's all be honest, we were all ready in the comment section if rum fire is mention on the label of the year. Can't believe all the rum fire videos and it did not get mention at all. I just started drinking rum this summer and rum fire is my favorite so far.
Thanks, appreciate the support. I would have absolutely had Rum FIre as the best label if it came out this year. Maybe next year I'll give a lifetime achievement award to the rum fire label lol
I was so waiting for the Rum Fire mention as well. So anti-climactic. LOL
@@bdwilcoxif I ever do a rums of all time awards then you better believe rum fire would be top of the list lol. Alas this list was only for rums that came out in 2023
Awesome video! How do you store your Hampden 8 Marks? Do you leave it upright or flat? Thinking about the cork damage if stored flat
I've been storing to upright as its great to look at.
Great video, please keep up the good work in 2024, us rum nerds need a channel or two that not all about cocktails or cheap mixing rums
Being UK based my choices will be driven by the UK/European market, so with that in mind thoughts below:
Label of the year: For info on the website/label I agree hard to beat the Mount Gay, although Renegade comes very close. For the visual impact of the bottle then A710 Renaissance.
Rum of The Year: St Aubain Sauternes Finish or The Labat Black Opus
UK Rum of the Year. Islay Une Mahor
Value Bottle of the Year SBS Single Origin Series WP Jamaica Cane Juice
Best Personal Buy of the Year: SBS Skeldon SWR 1997 The 1423 SBS Cask Strength / Milhade
Great picks! - Those a1710 bottles are lovely. As you can imagine, I haven't had the rest of your picks but next time I'm in the UK (hopefully for the next Rum Show) I'll keep an eye out for those.
Are you thinking of doing the London Rum show in July? If so it would be great to meet up.
@@geraintlewis8194 Hoping to. This year's Rum Show was such fun.
Wonderful, thank you for sharing! I'm fortunate to own the Isautier ag and Alambique Serrano blend #1... But I'm very curious about the Isautier molasses rum and all the other Alambique blends! Great eoy roundup, thaks again, keep up the good work :)
Thanks so much. I really liked the Isautier molasses. Very unique and worth searching for.
My first visit here.
Excellent presentation.
Thanks and welcome!
I’m literally sipping on some of that Rhum JM this NYE, it’s just so flavor packed and that bottle design is amazing. My personal rum of the year was some KoHana rum I tasted straight out of the barrel, that was truly special, I know it’s not a bottle but it was special to me. Their koa wood aged rum also blew my mind
That's awesome! I also tried some kohana straight from the barrel and man it was amazing!
Great Video.
Thank you!
Best looking man on the Internet right here. 🎉🍻
Aww shucks!
Completely applaud your pick of the Trinidad flag series bottling. It seemed to be overshadowed by the Guyana flag but after buying & tasting both, the cheaper bottle was more enjoyable.
Thanks! I totally went into my tasting of both only really being excited to try the Guyana and not having high hopes for the Trinidad. Glad I was proven wrong.
Thank you for the video. I had the opportunity to try a few great rums this year from Mount Gay Master's Select, Papa Seal, Black Tot 2022 and Zafra 30 years. I have been keeping an eye on Rhum J.M. for a few years, but have not been able to pull the trigger, I guess I will have to look for it this year. I have tried Banbarcourt 8 and 15 and a few Clement.
Cheers to a good year of rum. Big fan of the Black tot 2022 and always a fan of Barbancourt
Love that you’re bringing more love and attention to rum, and doing it in such a way where ‘stuffiness’ has no place! That said, when I start having more trouble finding things because of all the bourbon emigres, I may have to find you personally responsible… :p
Hahah fair enough! Thanks for watching!
Fantastic videos! Keep them coming in 2024! Would love to see you do an in depth dive into specific brand offerings such as Appleton (Signature, 8-Year, 12-Year, 15-Year), Doorly's (5-year, 8-year, 12-year, 14-year) etc to compare the differences and maybe where the best value or law of diminishing returns kicks in for each line.
THank you! And I actually have some scripts started on that very time. Might be doing Mount Gay or Hampden first, but will absolutely get to Appleton and Doorlys. Maybe I'll just do a mega Foursquare video.
@therumrevival fantastic! Excited to see what you come up with.
"RIP my bank account."..laughed out loud...I feel your pain!
I don’t even want to do the math on how much I spent this year lol
Great vid tho, dropped a sub
Thank you!
Have you had a chance to try any of the Foursquare Exceptional Cask rums? I got a store by me that has like 4 or 5 different ones for MSRP and would like some recommendations.
I've had a number of them here and there. A couple of the more recent ones I've really liked are: Redoubtable, , 2009, Shibboleth
Very interesting and informative! Well done! I'd love for you to do a special on just top-tier rums from the United States, even if it's a universal spirit, the media has been attempting to keep winners at the top-tier from being featured where we should be in the media when winning those huge awards at the San Francisco World or the International World. Ask me how I know....:)
Definitely some fantastic rums from the US. Definitely high on my list to focus a video just on the US. Lots of great producers to feature
@@therumrevival When I say top-tier, I mean our competition is Black Tot (won the trophy last year with a 98 at the IWSC - we got a 99) and Four Square (we have consistently been in the top 18 the last four years, twice in the top ten at the IWSC. You haven't heard a peep. No media coverage. Not for lack of trying. We have resorted to Facebook. :)
I nominate Rum Fire for label of the year, every year.
Maybe Rum Fire gets a lifetime achievement award?
It pains me that I still can't find TCRL High Seas locally yet
ugh, that's annoying. Hope it makes its way to you soon
TCL High Seas is soooooo good
It is sooo good!
What country are you in that you can get rum from reunion? Not in Canada right
I’m in the US… hopefully some comes your way in Canada.
There was a lot of foreshadowing here lol
I need Shellback silver. Out of production.😢
R.I.P 💸😢
hmm, not even an honorable mention to Malibu Peach?
That’s for my upcoming video on Five Rums You Should Drink in 2024.
number 1 rum didn’t sound as palatable….
