I would say the NUMBER ONE mistake is thinking you are eating healthy when you are not. Skipping meals can be a part of that, but I work in an ER and I constantly hear overweight people say “I eat healthy”, “I mostly eat healthy”, or some variation. It can be a variety of factors; denial (a big one), lack of eduction, believing misleading labels or simply not tracking what you eat (not calorie counting. Just accountability). Anyway, good luck with your journey! 💪🏻
When I was young, only two diet methods worked for me - intermittent fasting or Atkins. Either/or. I never tried intermittent fasting with Atkins. These days, my husband and I do meat and a vegetable for most dinners. Eggs for breakfast. My husband eats chicken for lunch and I usually do leftover meat or cheese and chicken salad (without bread). No calorie counting because we count carbs instead. I'm 69 with normal bloodwork and bp, no medication. My husband's cholesterol is that of a healthy 20 year old man! His blood pressure is 120/70. I discovered last year that I was consuming only 1/4-1/3 of the protein I need to be healthy, which explains why my hair fell out when I was 60. I was consuming about 35 to 40 grams per day and I need at least 120! After a year of increasing my protein, my hair is growing back. It's almost back to what it was in 2018, before my biggest fallout. My eyesight is improving. You need twice as much protein per pound of body weight by the time you reach 65 as you needed when you were young because your digestion becomes less efficient. Anyway, I don't stress at all about my diet because it's very simple. None of this plate dividing, etc. Meat, eggs, cheese, butter, cream, and some milk and vegetables.
I'm the same age as Cathy and a year ago I noticed that my muscle mass had decreased pretty drastically - more than likely due to the calorie deficit I was working with. Hey, I did lose a lot of the weight I wanted to - but I think it "cost" me too much. What's worked just incredibly well for me since then: eating whole foods I cook myself; cutting sugar and starchy foods; increasing protein; and starting a resistance training program. I also decreased my calorie deficit to 150/200 calories max. I've gained 2lb lean muscle, but decreased my body fat 4% - including 1.5 inches of belly fat.
@@StyleWithCathyOver50 Thanks Cathy! I really appreciate these videos that disprove the narrative that it's impossible for women to lose weight or belly fat after a certain age. I think this de-motivates us and makes people feel hopeless. You're proving everyday that it's not hopeless - nor is it a miserable process. We can lose weight, we can regain our strength and we can still enjoy our meals! Cheers Cathy!
Hi Cathy. I am so happy to be on this journey with you. We are experiencing the same thing with fluctuations. It is discouraging but your videos help to keep me positive. Thank you!❤
I'm glad you do these videos... they are encouraging and good reminders to stay on track. Even if you leave weight loss aside, this is about healthy living and eating and everyone needs to do this. Congratulations on your success, it's inspiring!
Sugar and sweets is definitely my weakness for sure. I don’t need to even bring them in the house. Thanks for sharing, and helping us who are on this journey with you.❤
Hi Cathy thank you for sharing this video I 57 and have struggled with my weight i am up and down with weight I weigh about 17 8 pounds thanks again for sharing this it very helpful and I enjoyed watching your video I really enjoyed your videos they really helped me out Cathy ❤xxx
Thanks for putting out the chick pea salad video. I didn't watch because this is a recipe that I wouldn't be making. Do you ever do crock pot or casserole recipes for the fall? I would watch those.
I don't know how post-menopausal women do intermittent fasting. I did 12/12 intermittent fasting 35 years ago and it worked great, but it's too hard now. I can't keep my already-limited energy up.
I’m 57, and Intermittent fasting has help me lose 21 pounds. But, it’s definitely been harder now that I’m older, and I’m probably going to switch to a more balanced diet plan.
Do you use an app for tracking or do you write it down?? I’m currently using an app but realizing I’m not tracking very well. I’m thinking if I write it down it might be better
@@StyleWithCathyOver50 so then you don’t track anything….do you plan?? I’m just struggling so much and need all the help I can get!!! Thank you for sharing your journey
@@marlawegrzyn6991 Have you watched the video where I explain the balanced way of eating that I learned from the dietician? It's very simple once you understand the plan. I do not track anything, I did that for years on WW. This way is much simpler. I don't meal plan, but I need to. That is one area that I struggle with and need to work on.
@@marlawegrzyn6991 I think you should write it down. It’s what I do and it makes a big difference. The balanced plate approach is a great way to approach eating a meal, but writing down everything you eat gives you something to analyze over time and is a form of accountability.
@@50PlusFitnessJourney thank you. That’s what I was thinking. And I know I need to plan or I will definitely stumble and fall!! Not good at making decisions on the fly

We all have to find a plan that works the best for ourself, one that is easy to follow and sustainable.
@@StyleWithCathyOver50 Yes. I couldn’t agree more. Sustainability is the key.

Sugar is a tough one!
Great info ! I can relate to all of them. Thanks. I’m waiting to see your next Talbot haul for fall
I wish that Talbots would have a 30-40% off sale, there are a few things that I would like, but they are so darn expensive.
A continuous glucose monitor would be eye-opening about what is happening with your diet.
Thank you for this video ❤.
