An '04 JGC Laredo w/ 225K that sat for abt 2 yrs. was given to me. The car's a constant money pit. Used up all AAA calls in a month! Now code P--0303 shows. Been learning mech work to cut costs, then w/ sell as is & take the loss. Thx for vid.
I just did this today on my Jeep. The absolute hardest part was pulling off the darn resonator box, which looked so easy for you but for me, was stuck on tighter than a nun. I spent a couple hours wrestling with that piece of plastic.
WAAF is off the air. They were bought out by a Christian station last year. I sat in my truck at midnight and listened to them sign off it sucked. Mistress Carrie played Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath for the last song ever played on Waaf...sad
can i just say, i haven’t watched the video but the first 2 minutes yet and i don’t even care if i learn anything anymore. i love the accents so much i’ll watch the whole thing anyway. still hope to learn tho!!
For anybody else watching, iridium spark plugs are pregapped. It's a good idea to check the gap as was said in the video, but don't try to gap them or you will break the tip.
OK I’m here cause I got a change out all six I wanna make sure you’re correct in saying this I shouldn’t have to worry about the gapping if I go with iridium spark plugs correct thank you
Boy, That is a tough one, I am not sure if you could get an easy out to back the rest of it out of there. You also should make sure the piston is at the bottom of the stroke so that is doesn't get damaged. You may want to have a reputable garage tackle this one for you.
@@HomeownerRepair I decided to just call my mechanic before I mess it up worse, just started to work on cars myself and could use more experience before I screw myself. Thank you for the reply on such an old video.
It looks like the factory calls for 26-30 ft lbs on the torque. You may want to look this up specifically for your year make and model. I have always just snugged them up by hand as shown in the video and never had an issue.
My first thought. WTH. I have driven Keeps with that engine for 23 years and have never pulled stuff off the left side of the engine to get to something on the right.
Followed all the steps for my ‘04 4.7L V8, but when I start it up it idles high (1500 rpm) and smoke is coming from the engine after idling for a minute or two. HELLLLP 😩
@@JRoge2024 It's a bot, no one is that ignorant. I hope. >.< These symptoms will not come from an air filter & spark plug change, they must have been pre-existing.
I haven't replaced plugs in mine for some time and was thinking, "I should do that soon." Then I saw all that's involved for such a standard maintenance task and thought "What a PITA. No Way I'm spending that much time and effort". Glad I can afford to pay someone to do all that BS.
This engine is fun to drive but a bitch to work on (if you ask me). Idk how the majority feels but as someone who owns and works on their own these things were soooo made for people who pay other dudes to fix their car.
Thank you for watching our auto repair video that shows you how to replace the spark plugs in a 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 engine. Hope the video helped you out.

Buy Spark Plugs: amzn.to/2RvuZ8T
from my teachings you never put antiseize on the plugs because it needs to be able to ground out through the threads to the engine blcok

That code seems to point to a bad ignition coil on the #3 cylinder
Lmao you either got a GC from someone who didn’t maintenance it very often. If it’s the 4.0 they are very strong engines. A BMW is a money pit.

Used to live in massachusetts years ago, it's nice to hear WAAF on the radio. Brings some nostalgia

Does WD 40 work as a substitute for silicon spray?
Lol was about to buy one that needs spark plugs and coil pack replaced...glad i watched this mess first lol
It's an easy job.
Great video. Very interesting. Thanks to you both.

Any tips on broken spark plug with sheared off nut with threads still on 5th plug????

Honestly though after a new radiator and probably needing a new transmission, I think I’m gonna buy this 2004 Tacoma instead
I broke the throttle cable end the plastic part that snaps on. Will I have to replace the cable? Help! Thank you
If the end of the cable broke off, your more than likely will have to replace the throttle cable.
Will vasilen work on top of spark plugs if you don't have the other
Don't use that. You don't have to use the antiseize on the treads if you do not have it, but it will help next time you need to remove them.
Do the spark plugs have a torque spec?

Would have been an ideal time to remove and clean the throttle body assembly and the Throttle Position Sensor...

4.0 - use plugs plugs NGVK V-Power Spark Plug (ZFR5N)
Recommended, iridium not needed.
I always ran the Champion spark plugs in my 4.0 Grand Cherokee and they were fine
My first thought. WTH.
I have driven Keeps with that engine for 23 years and have never pulled stuff off the left side of the engine to get to something on the right.
It helps to remove the throttle cables so they are not in your way. You might be able to work around them.
Anybody have any idea what that “harness holder” is called? The one that keeps that harness in the back from touching the top of the engine ?
Not sure if there is a specific name for it
what size socket for the plugs?
I "THINK" it was a 5/8" spark plug socket. It should be stated in the video. Hope this helps you out.
@@HomeownerRepair thank you i'm going to try to tackle it today ..i.have a 0301 obd misfire code ..i hope it fixes it
What does that hose you disconnected do? Mine is broken..

This model is a 4.0 I (straight) 6 engine.
Just saw this, did you figure out the issue.
@@HomeownerRepair he used the vid on the wrong engine. This is a 4.0L straight 6 and this guy had a 4.7L V8

We explain the tools used in the video.
this was extremely helpful thank you so much sir🫡
Glad it helped!
how many spark does it have? I counted 6. Is this correct?
Depends on the engine the 4.0 has 6 cylinders there for 6 spark plug the 4.7 has 8 cylinders hence 8 sparkplugs
Yes there are 6 spark plugs on the 4.0 motor

It's not that bad of a job. Just get the cheap Champion plugs, you don't need anything crazy.
I changed the spark plugs but it still comes up with same misfire codes and skips and sputters, HELP
It may be a bad coil pack.
fuel injector might be bad
Don't know who removed the ground strap but it there for good reason,Grounding issues is a major electrical problem
The joys of buying used vehicles...we fix more stuff..UGH!
It’s such a simple engine design. Why did they have to go and figure out how to make it so complex to put spark plugs in!?

lol..The 4.0 isn't too bad to work on. Your should try the Mercedes or my C4 Vette...OMG..lol
The 4.0 is a very easy engine to work on. It's such a good engine though you rarely have to work on it.
K thanks
Welcome
I recommend power tools brother
We tend to use a little of both. Break spark plugs free by hand and then power tool them out,
Please put the air compressor outside.
