Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" in my new home of Sarasota Florida.

There's no harm at all in doing multi8ple videos on the same topic. I find it difficult to learn to paint looser, less realistically. Every video on this topic, especially with different subjects, is helpful. Thanks.

My issue as a new oil painter is which style to follow. I’m attracted to realism and impressionist styles by different artists. Should I concentrate on learning more traditional styles of painting before I attempt one that ‘breaks the rules’? I feel conflicted and it’s preventing me from actually choosing and creating a painting. I would also like to try a bigger painting but don’t want to end up with something I hide under my bed lol.
Try all of them, or at least several different styles. And your own style will develop automatically. So don't choose now. Just paint! A Lot!
It depends on what you really want. If you paint to express your feelings, follow the expressionists you like. If you want to have a nice, realistic result, follow realistic artists, I recommend you to follow Justin Wood art on Instagram,. It's all about what you really want. If you love both styles the same, do what I do. It depends on your mood. One day you want a realistic painting, paint it. Another day you may want to express your thoughts by painting, do it. It's all about you.
ive been doing art for several years and ive just recently gotten into oil painting and ive found that if you just try different styles that you like and experiment with different ways of portraying subjects, etc, youll start to develop your own style out of that
I want to know about “the base” of the canvas itself should i paint it white before starting with painting (like acrylic paint) or can you just start right away?
And what kind of linseed should you use for beginner oil painter you have refined, thickend, stand oil, drying and cold press linseed oil.

When to know we should give time to dry and not mix or blend colors? When to know that yes now we can add colors to earlier one?

When I start painting I do really good but toward the end I start messing it up. I don’t know when to stop. Any suggestions?
Periodically step back from your painting, I mean like at least across the room from it - this can help you see when it might be finished. Remember, simplicity often results in success!

Pls why do you not use Munsell values, it is easier to be on the same page on the properties colors you are using such as:
1. Values
2. Hue
3. Chroma or intensity
