I thought that at first, but her perspective as an "ctiy girl outsider" puts a unique twist to this reporting of the festival. It's rewarding to finally see one form of her self peek through at the end. She did not give a negative comment whatsoever about the festival or the people. The negativity was always towards herself and her comfort (or lack thereof). But this is just like city folk, they have a hard exterior and are not likely to get touchy feely whether it's emotionally or physically

She embodies millions of people that go to festivals and cant let go. I feel like what her persona portrays when i attend festivals 😂. I love festivals but although I try to fit in i am not spiritual so I find alot of the stuff available just hilarious and goofy. To each their own and thats my favorite part is that people can be free to express themselves. This was enjoyable.
Looks lile an Awesome festival. But man wtf is wrong with her. Sent her to do starbucks documentaries to New york . She had a really bad attitude. If she ment to be sarcastic or funny she failed . Her energy was so heavy and negative .

love the contrast between narrator and setting. she shows the festival through the amateur's eye who is simply not accustomed to festival reality. its done both sarcastically and realistically and then the character slightly melts as she finds her way to connect and flow and does not feel so weird anymore. this is like a bridge between industrial polluted jungle rigidity and egoless freedom of the festival jungle. thank you!
You can't send a girl like this to a festival like Envision. She was uninterested, clearly biased about the festival and the type of people going beforehand, and straight judgemental. This isn't journalism in even the slightest way. It was hard for me to watch a whole 16 minutes of a close-minded city kid, who blatantly has no knowledge or respect for the core beliefs and ideals of the festival and people in attendance, walk around and judge the people in this video. No this IS how you do it. You put a person who has no clue about the enviroment and skeptical about it and you get a much more interesting and challenging scenario. It's bit of the whole point, having someone to loosen up and get out of their comfort zone. We already know about hippie festivals, its nothing special. If I had a penny for every time I had to pretend to be even half as interested as the person talking to me about crystals, good vibes, harsh vibes, energy, patriarchies, godesses, the spirit, etc.... I'd have at least 5 bucks. It was always funny to see people hypocritically get emotional about some idea/philosophy, and then break it within minutes (like arguing with someone about their microwave or TV using X amount of electricity, only to get excited 5 minutes later about all the phish shows they're hitting next tour)

Something our current society doesn't endorse. If you can't do that from time to time you'll get ill. You don't have to be in that state all the time. I normally don't comment on videos but I am just so...frustrated. This isn't journalism. She came into the festival with a preconceived bias instead of trying to gain a objective understanding of what the event was all about. As a viewer, I wish she would've been more open minded so I could get a better understanding of what the festival was all about from the get-go. I'm glad her attitude improved the second day, at least.
i think you guys are missing the point - if she arrived at the festival ready to go the piece wouldn't be able to develop - they're showing the transformation of a city girl who was skeptical, learning over the few days she was there that being an open minded tripper may have its benefits...the only downfall of this film is they dont really bring it home too well....but yeah....sending a hippy to an island of hippies....well that wouldnt really have much room to grow would it ;)

some british like that style and i guess find that way entertaining. i think it was mostly an act on her part. i personally find the style boring and annoying but......i'd rather see a middle-aged deadhead who followed the grateful dead around for a summer or two go there and do the story. their perspective on something like this would be more interesting and enlightening to me.
As much as I really enjoyed this video, I feel like she brought a completely unnecessary attitude/energy to the festival. I understand that spirituality is not for everyone but if it is her job to document something that is new to her, she should at least keep an open mind and try to enjoy the experience. Everyone there seemed extremely kind, loving and full of positivity and light. We only have one life to live and being able to journey and have wonderful experiences as part of your job is a blessing!

I used to live in the jungle in Costa Rica and perhaps just had a lot of experience seeing so many “soul searching” hippies cross my path who overexperimented with drugs and just didn’t seem firmly rooted in reality or grounded within themselves. Well said, terrible title and she basically gave the public what they wanted to see I guess. I've been to Envision 4 years now starting in 2012 when it was very small, not as Yuppy and Corporate as it is today. Not to be negative but it started out way more grassroots, hippis and free-minded individuals coming together in a beautiful place to explore community, friendship, art, sustainability and general oneness with eachother and Earth. People were more focused on providing fruit to eachother in the tropical heat than trying to turn a dollar. Inevitably festivals grow and people find out they can turn a pretty penny by expanding it and having more artists, more vendors, higher prices, luxury VIP options etc and you end up with a bit of a watered down experience due to all the People showing up for the hype- to party or take selfies and or have that experience. There are still amazing people that come and I still love this festival- bass, palm trees, surfing and Costa Rican culture. Now, I just hope people support the locals by staying at their hostels and buying their food, and yeah the video was garbage no offense way too much focus on being "that" video with sarcastic comments and too shallow to really get at the beautiful chaos & chemistry that magically happens at conscious gatherings like this.
I thought she was brilliant! She has a dry sense of humour which is very British. I wonder if Louis Theroux would get the same unkind reception if he did this. She was open to new experience and tried everything to the best of her ability. I liked the juxtaposition between her reporting style and festival goers. Just because you perceive someone to be less 'spiritually enlightened' because they don't act the same as you doesn't mean that's the case. Maybe she's a devout Buddhist and meditates every day! I find it strange how so many 'spiritually woke' people on here are super judgemental.
Kelly Rose I think it was interesting. Because it explicitly shows the contrast of the western mindset to the spiritual soul. It was awkward because it is awkward for someone who has no knowledge to this kind of lifestyle. I met Maji at the very first music festival I painted a mural for 2017 in florida. He was so supportive and encouraging when I didn’t know what I was doing. He owns a lot of land in Costa Rica and told me to go to envision. We’re still Facebook friends :)
This girl has a seriously bad attitude which I think she is putting on to be funny but it's not. She's kind of being condescending, mocking and other negative ways of being which is quite rude and not a comedy routine at all. I love comedy and seeing people go through new experiences, but it's not funny when it's at the expense of making others feel mocked as she is doing. I hope she wasn't like this off camera, I really do think she is putting on a fake facade which is stopping her being the way she truly wants to be nice, kind and loving. Humans don't naturally behave the way she is, she's manipulating herself to appease her ego (by being the clown), and I don't think this is how she really wants to be if she properly thought about her actions and how she really feels comfortable being - this doesn't mean she has to transform in to a hippy, but she could at least be a bit more welcoming (it doesn't hurt in this situation) and be a bit more open minded - it seems like a safe place to be so.
She's very unappreciative of an experience like this - especially since she's probably paid by Vice to be there! Give me her job and I'll be funny (and have fun more importantly) without being rude!

Honestly, I didn't see it this way. I saw a woman with a lot of blockedges who was unable to lossen up. Seemed like she tried though. And the thought of vice editing this in a biased way never crossed my mind. I think they showed an honest representation of what festivals like these are like. They are not for everyone. No need to be upset about it.
Erica She's just a person with her own problems and blockages preventing her from expressing herself totally and joyfully. Why do you have to put her down even more? This is a completely new world she is entering into. Of course it will make her uncomfortable. Honestly, deal with your own problems, then you'll realize how unnecessary the act of putting someone down is.
As someone practicing spirituallity, you shouldn't give a quack about how someone else perceives your particular set of believes or understandings. This lady is on her own walk of life and all we should really be doing is support her on her journey. We'll all get there in time and in our own way. Perhaps she brought home some new thoughts and ideas. As much as I really enjoyed this video, I feel like she brought a completely unnecessary attitude/energy to the festival. I understand that spirituality is not for everyone but if it is her job to document something that is new to her, she should at least keep an open mind and try to enjoy the experience. Everyone there seemed extremely kind, loving and full of positivity and light. We only have one life to live and being able to journey and have wonderful experiences as part of your job is a blessing!

Well said, terrible title and she basically gave the public what they wanted to see I guess. I've been to Envision 4 years now starting in 2012 when it was very small, not as Yuppy and Corporate as it is today. Not to be negative but it started out way more grassroots, hippis and free-minded individuals coming together in a beautiful place to explore community, friendship, art, sustainability and general oneness with eachother and Earth. People were more focused on providing fruit to eachother in the tropical heat than trying to turn a dollar.
Inevitably festivals grow and people find out they can turn a pretty penny by expanding it and having more artists, more vendors, higher prices, luxury VIP options etc and you end up with a bit of a watered down experience due to all the People showing up for the hype- to party or take selfies and or have that experience. There are still amazing people that come and I still love this festival- bass, palm trees, surfing and Costa Rican culture. Now, I just hope people support the locals by staying at their hostels and buying their food, and yeah the video was garbage no offense way too much focus on being "that" video with sarcastic comments and too shallow to really get at the beautiful chaos & chemistry that magically happens at conscious gatherings like this.
I thought she was brilliant! She has a dry sense of humour which is very British. I wonder if Louis Theroux would get the same unkind reception if he did this. She was open to new experience and tried everything to the best of her ability. I liked the juxtaposition between her reporting style and festival goers. Just because you perceive someone to be less 'spiritually enlightened' because they don't act the same as you doesn't mean that's the case. Maybe she's a devout Buddhist and meditates every day! I find it strange how so many 'spiritually woke' people on here are super judgemental.

It was awkward because it is awkward for someone who has no knowledge to this kind of lifestyle. This girl has a seriously bad attitude which I think she is putting on to be funny but it's not. She's kind of being condescending, mocking and other negative ways of being which is quite rude and not a comedy routine at all. I love comedy and seeing people go through new experiences, but it's not funny when it's at the expense of making others feel mocked as she is doing. I hope she wasn't like this off camera, I really do think she is putting on a fake facade which is stopping her being the way she truly wants to be nice, kind and loving. Humans don't naturally behave the way she is, she's manipulating herself to appease her ego (by being the clown), and I don't think this is how she really wants to be if she properly thought about her actions and how she really feels comfortable being - this doesn't mean she has to transform in to a hippy, but she could at least be a bit more welcoming (it doesn't hurt in this situation) and be a bit more open minded - it seems like a safe place to be so.
She's very unappreciative of an experience like this - especially since she's probably paid by Vice to be there! Give me her job and I'll be funny (and have fun more importantly) without being rude!

What is going on with this presenter? It's like she is being deliberately miserable just to show up how 'crazy' the hippies are. This is a biased pile of toss. The presenter is the only one that's not relaxed. What a waste of a plane ticket, she should have stayed at home and watched East Enders. Honestly Vice, why do you give all the drug addicts really unbiased coverage but always get super negative and biased with the hippies? What's the deal with that? Sort it out FFS, lighten up a little. This is edited deliberately to make the people at this festival look as whacky and ridiculous as possible. This is not fair reporting and it's not the first time Vice have done this. If the hippies are so crazy woo woo, the viewer will see that without you needing to package it, edit it and present it in a biased way. Let the viewer decide. Do your job properly. Honestly, I didn't see it this way. I saw a woman with a lot of blockedges who was unable to lossen up. Seemed like she tried though. And the thought of vice editing this in a biased way never crossed my mind. I think they showed an honest representation of what festivals like these are like. They are not for everyone. No need to be upset about it.

She's just a person with her own problems and blockages preventing her from expressing herself totally and joyfully. Why do you have to put her down even more? This is a completely new world she is entering into. Of course it will make her uncomfortable. Honestly, deal with your own problems, then you'll realize how unnecessary the act of putting someone down is.
As someone practicing spirituallity, you shouldn't give a quack about how someone else perceives your particular set of believes or understandings. This lady is on her own walk of life and all we should really be doing is support her on her journey. We'll all get there in time and in our own way. Perhaps she brought home some new thoughts and ideas.
And as someone else noted in this comment section, the host is probably the perfect person to display the contrast between these two worlds and what living in a busy city our whole life can do to our energies.

I love the in-depth mini docs from Vice but was disappointed in this one. I would like to learn of the festival without the cynical attitude of the reporter. I hope this isn’t the direction Vice is going in.
