Everytime I hear, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" it gives me chills. Especially when Judy sings it when she's older. Such a hauntingly beautiful voice. R.I.P you deserved better Judy Garland 👏😔
Here's a few more I can name: * Frank Morgan who was the Wizard, doorman, coachman, guard & Marvel was an alcoholic * Over the Rainbow was originally cut by Victor Fleming but was encouraged to reinsert it into the film * Judy Garland was forced to wear a corset to appear younger * Judy Garland found the ruby slippers uncomfortable
My wife and I love this movie but yeah it's really hard to watch it these days knowing a little bit about what happened behind the scenes to judy and everyone else
Like the original Watchmojo list of this topic, you forgot another shocking fact about the filming of The Wizard of Oz: the dog that played Toto (a female named Terry) almost died during the filming of the escape from the Wicked Witch's castle after she broke her foot.😭
If I was one of those guys playing a munchkin. After learning that the damn dog was making more money than me… I’d be getting drunk most of the time to.
Back in the day, it's sad to know that there was less consideration and safety practices in existence. Yes, there is still some of this today, but thankfully, we have learned from these past mistakes. Unfortunately, "The Wizard of Oz" will not be seen the same way after knowing all of this.
True. But even so, there are still multiple cases of similar occurrences with child stars, particularly when their parents attempt to scam them out of their own earnings (greed really does lead to terrible things).
Then there's also the fact that Frank Baum was very anti-Indigenous people, to the point that he wrote editorials after Wounded Knee calling for the genocide of all Indigenous people.
I wouldn't refer to Old Hollywood as "Old Hollywood". I'd refer to it as "Dark Hollywood". The things you hear about the chronic abuse, of all types, of the children and women in the business back then is nothing short of disgusting.
As a huge Wizard of Oz fan, I already knew all of these. My dad even had all the original Oz books by Baum (and several written by Ruth Plumly Thompson).
There is no way in hell that a dog made more money than the munchkins in the movie. Granted the dog wasn’t drunk all the time and didn’t get arrested but it’s an animal.
There is a movie called Under the Rainbow and it's loosely based on the Munchkin's "bad behavior" it stars, Carrie Fisher and Chevy Chase and it came out in 1981 😜 Plot Summary: Set in 1938, the film's plot is loosely based on the gathering of little people in a Hollywood hotel to audition for roles as Munchkins in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
I always felt that since Dorothy's age was never stated in the source material, then there was no need to make 16 year old Judy Garland look like a little girl. Dorothy could have easily been a teenager.
Not a bad fact; the oil used for Tin Man was chocolate syrup due to the fact oil would not show up on camera same for psycho (syrup being used that is)
My childhood with "The Wizard of Oz" was ruined when I realized that the movie was NOT loyal to the book. One example is that the filmmakers made an awful mistake casting Judy Garland in the role of Dorothy Gale. Judy Garland is a good singer, I do give people that, but she was too old for the role. In the movie, Dorothy is a teenager, but in the book, she's a little girl. They actually needed a little girl for the role.
Can someone please clarify what they meant by "The fact that Toto made more than the munchkins"? That doesnt even seem like a complete sentence so I have no clue what that is about.
This film made judy a superstar... If she didn't landed this role and did what the producers wanted, the course of her life would have been very different... Stop blaming the producers or the movie company, they all got what they wanted and that includes you the viewers.
Director: slaps actor and feels like a jackass after, and tells everyone to punch him in the face back. Mojo: "Wow, Hollywood was weird back then" Seems pretty normal for someone to overreact, become violent and feel like a piece of shit afterwards. But I guess you idiots at mojo feel like modern hollywood is completely normal and is completely respectful scene.
What’s even worse about #4 is it almost didn’t work. Watch her face before she says “My goodness what a fuss you’re making”. She’s still trying not to laugh.
Many of these, I already knew or knew of in some form. But, several i did not. Judy also had her teeth gapped, a dent on her nose covered, and her bust bound down to appear younger. Jello or something like it was used for the horse of a different color.
I feel bad for the actors having to go through hell making the movie. I love it still, it brings me joy but knowing what Judy and the actress who played the wicked witch of the west
I always thought the lion suit WAS real. I mean why would you not think so...every woman of the the era wanted or was wearing mink or rabbit or ermine skins. Native Americans wore clothing made of deer and wolf hides. Beaver skin hats were all the rage previously. What makes actual lion skin shocking? Fun recap on these points tho.
Okay, a little bit of hyperbole is fine, maybe even necessary, but there is absolutely nothing you can include in this video that would ruin even a minute of my childhood.

They put Judy Garland through hell.
That's just how it was back then that's why you women are stronger than men you can put up with a lot more shit us men just end up killing our selves
For literally the rest of her life.
Only Margaret Hamilton was a true friend on set
They did and we shouldn't dare forget it
Everytime I hear, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" it gives me chills. Especially when Judy sings it when she's older. Such a hauntingly beautiful voice. R.I.P you deserved better Judy Garland 👏😔
The only one who was kind with Garland during filming was Margaret, she played a villain but was a great lady!!!! 🎉
I gotta feel bad for all of the actors
The fact that Toto made more than the munchkins is stellar 👌
Especially the fact that the Munchkins actors were a-holes.
the stand-in for Judy Garland turned 105 in April this year
Watch Mojo: *Tells about dark secrets in old Hollywood*
Also Watch Mojo: DID YOU ENJOY THIS VIDEO? 😃
Fair point!
Here's a few more I can name:
* Frank Morgan who was the Wizard, doorman, coachman, guard & Marvel was an alcoholic

The number one fact always breaks my heart
My wife and I love this movie but yeah it's really hard to watch it these days knowing a little bit about what happened behind the scenes to judy and everyone else
“Don’t Be Afraid….” - Glinda
“I’m NOT Afraid…., IT’S The WIZARD Who SHOULD Be Afraid of Me…” - Elphaba
The BEST NEW ICONIC LINE In the Entire Film!
Like the original Watchmojo list of this topic, you forgot another shocking fact about the filming of The Wizard of Oz: the dog that played Toto (a female named Terry) almost died during the filming of the escape from the Wicked Witch's castle after she broke her foot.😭
It’s been rumored for years that the munchkins used to have freak offs
Hills there is….Swimming pools….movie stars!!!!
I think it worked out for Buddy Ebert!
R.I.P. Jed Clampett
If I was one of those guys playing a munchkin. After learning that the damn dog was making more money than me… I’d be getting drunk most of the time to.
Right? F the producers, they get what they pay for.
Back in the day, it's sad to know that there was less consideration and safety practices in existence. Yes, there is still some of this today, but thankfully, we have learned from these past mistakes. Unfortunately, "The Wizard of Oz" will not be seen the same way after knowing all of this.

To be fair to the effects department, people didn't understand the danger of asbestos until the 1950s.
Nice job following up the talk about the actress Clara Blandick's suicide with "did you enjoy this video".
The Wizard Of Oz was a movie about 2 women fighting over a pair of shoes.
I'm glad Buddy Ebsen recovered so greatly from this.
As a huge Wizard of Oz fan, I already knew all of these. My dad even had all the original Oz books by Baum (and several written by Ruth Plumly Thompson).
3:29 the second makeup incident that I have heard of (first was Violet Beauregarde’s 1971 actress’s turning-blue-in-school incident)
The dog that played Toto was actually a female, named Terry.
Pablo Larrain should make a movie about the production of this movie
Wahhhh Avi waaahhhhhh
11:05 - 11:17:
Who else was trying but failing to not cry while mouthing the words being read?
Sounds like they treated the cast horribly.
I think "Family Guy" pointed out these ones just perfect😅
There is no way in hell that a dog made more money than the munchkins in the movie.

For a long time as a child, I thought Judy Garland was an actual adult, not sixteen or seventeen.
Not a bad fact;
the oil used for Tin Man was chocolate syrup due to the fact oil would not show up on camera same for psycho (syrup being used that is)

2:01 well that got dark real fast. I didn’t know it was made of actual lion skin. Did any of you?
I’ve heard of it. So gross
4:55 Oh this was too good!
In my defense, my childhood has already been ruined
People always get the name of the most famous song from the movie wrong. It's just simply Over the Rainbow, not Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Can an acting dog make money and why is it that they have to put all their actors through hell back then?? It’s absolutely absurd and ridiculous!!!
Can someone please clarify what they meant by "The fact that Toto made more than the munchkins"? That doesnt even seem like a complete sentence so I have no clue what that is about.
Just finished watching a reaction to the movie so this is impeccable timing.

As much as I enjoy Wizard of Oz, I always feel sorry for Judy Garland. She never caught a break throughout her entire life.
It's made with real Lion bits, so you know it's good. 60 percent of the time it works every time
What’s even worse about #4 is it almost didn’t work. Watch her face before she says “My goodness what a fuss you’re making”. She’s still trying not to laugh.
72 hours in a row!!!?
The only fact I didn’t already know was the first one.
Hey, hasn’t this list been done before?
Exactly
heavens, the "great adventure" note sounds similar to South Korean actor Song Jaelim's final posts in social media prior to his death
It was ruined while i was watching it- i saw the man who hung himself on set in the background- sad--
I'm surprised the actors put up with some of these things but times were different back then.
You guys should see the original footage of the body hanging in the distance, while they were off down the yellow brick road.
This video did not ruin my childhood at all.
Hearing about these make the crying parts of the movie extra harder
The dark horrific truth behind wizard of oz
I knew ones from numbers 8, 7, 6, 5, maybe 4, 3 and 2. I might have known the one with the horse, the slippers and Toto thing.
Judy Garland deserved better in her life. 😢🎉
.🎉
An icon who gave us everything-she truly deserved the rainbow she sang about.
If the movie was made today, they will be able to use much more safer necessities
None of these facts ruined my childhood.
Now i know about my childhood movies
No mention of the Munchkin actor who allegedly hung himself in the movie?!
Can you imagine how much weight Burt Lahr lost during that movie?
Another fact. Judy Garland had terrible flatulence. That's why the Wizard of Oz was known as the prequal to Gumm with the wind.
@ozvlog Do you thing, girl!
I want see Wicked ! 😊
Got your tickets yet?
@WatchMojo I will .
I always thought the lion suit WAS real. I mean why would you not think so...every woman of the the era wanted or was wearing mink or rabbit or ermine skins. Why should i watch a video that will ruin my childhood?
Judy Garland loves the poppy scene lol
Why's that?
Still my favorite movie.
There's no place like home... or a classic like The Wizard of Oz! 🌟💚 What’s your favorite part?
@@WatchMojo I love everything about it! :)
My all time favorite movie since childhood
Wizard of oz was literally just on HBO 🤣
🥈
@@BlackHatCinephile no one wants your pointless medals
We all already know this stuff
Okay, a little bit of hyperbole is fine, maybe even necessary, but there is absolutely nothing you can include in this video that would ruin even a minute of my childhood.
Thanks for ruining a classic movie. Got any dirt on Bambi?
Hasn't the asbestos thing been debunked?
Watch UNDER THE RAINBOW. ABOUT THE munchkins
Hello good afternoon 🎉🎉🎉
2:00 What the hell is the difference if you are wearing lion skin, mink, goat, rabbit, beaver, Ermine or cow? Its all deceased animal.
Muskin were a little perverts
some of these are SO wrong. who does the research here!? FALSE
