    I’m piking 55 yrs but I still found this VLOG absolutely brilliant to teach new pikers to our craft , here in Mayo IE, I constantly help and advise young kids I come across on the bank & new to our craft how to pike , I myself am presently in the process of moving to circle hooks after watching one of your previous videos , even I am still learning and it’s thanks to people like you that so many people Learn the craft , keep em coming and tight lines my friend for the new season. I myself have had a good start with 6 mid doubles already from one of my fav lakes here near home ..

    Excellent. I caught my first pike whilst perch fishing (single hook) with dead baits, so I had to learn about unhooking pike PDQ. Luckily I had all the gear in my tackle bag. Being used to striking quickly with perch the hook hold was nicely in the scissors making for easy extraction. I tried a trace with a top treble bottom single but have found that too much aggravation and have since reverted to using just a single size 2 or 4.

    Starter gear is better and cheaper than when I started out, many, many years ago. You can buy a decent carp/pike rod for £30. Lidl sell a very usable 5000 series reel for less than £15. NGT have a 42" landing net for about £12. A youngster could probably get all then need for around £100, or less if they know a sympathetic angler.

    Excellent video brilliant for beginners. One thing though, how do you fit a soft bait such as sardines? Yes you can use them frozen, but what if they are not?

    • @Fishing4Pleasure
      @Fishing4Pleasure  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can lip hook a head section or hair rig. There is a link in the video description

    Great great video Mark, stressing the importance of the tools required.
    On the subject of circle hooks, do you find hooking the pike ok even though you have the weight acting like a pendulum when the fish is hooked, potentially losing it?

    • @Fishing4Pleasure
      @Fishing4Pleasure  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once hooked,they stay hooked. Up until this season I have had my struggles with conversion rates though,

    Excellent video, I'm trying to switch to switch to single circle hooks also, what size would you recommend?

    • @Fishing4Pleasure
      @Fishing4Pleasure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on bait size but I use 2/0 & 1/0

    Most important this when starting is finding somewhere to fish. These experienced pike anglers (a.k.a grumpy old codgers) that everyone always says to go with won't want to know. They won't put you on to any fish, even any waters in general. They don't want you catching "their" fish. They will send you in the wrong direction then stand there and let you blank day after day, week after week. They have sat there cold, wet and miserable for years, so now, out of spite, you must do the same to earn your stripes. Welcome to pike fishing.

      @Fishing4Pleasure  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly I can't argue to the contrary! But some of us old codgers are different

    If your new to pike fishing I'd start with lures and cover as much water as possible its more excitement

    Hi, great video.. are pike , perch .. in every water .. I live near the welland ( crowland) stretch .. is that a good place

    • @Fishing4Pleasure
      @Fishing4Pleasure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, absolutely the stretch is run by www.deepingstjamesanglingclub.co.uk/our-fisheries/river-welland/
      Most waters will hold Pike and Perch however some commercial lakes will have had them removed

    • @craigknights4480

      Is it just turn up and someone will be round for day ticket … been a long time since I did river fishing

    • @Fishing4Pleasure
      @Fishing4Pleasure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure @@craigknights4480 as I have a season tkt. day tickets can be purchased online here www.deepingstjamesanglingclub.co.uk/day-tickets/
      Most clubs allow day tickets to be purchased on the bank maybe worth contacting the club to make sure

    Funnily enough i took a lad and dad out Tuesday for their first pike session.Both of them have had carp to over 30lb,but the lad(12yrs old) is now pike mad after having a 12lb,that would have gone to 15 lb,had it not been empty.I've promised to take them out again in the next school holidays....
