As a 44 year old 4 years ago I was struggling to keep the weight off and made no progress in the gym. Started Fasting and OMAD and I've seen gains I never thought were possible and the first time in my whole life I feel fitter and the leanest I have ever been. As always thanks for another great video!

Just got my Genetics back from 23andme, turns out I have the MC4R gene (Fat Gene), probably explains why I may have struggled with my weight all my life until I found Keto, Fasting, OMAD. Now in my mid 40's, lean and fit. Shows you don't have to be you're genetics.

I really love what you guys do. That said I was taken aback to hear that “reducing animal meats is good for the planet.” Especially considering that the alternative solution you suggest is collagen and whey which are animal proteins. Personally I side with the idea that sustainable local ranching is better for the environment than industrial farming.

Be willing to pay a multiplier more for proteins you consume, and the farming community will be happy to farm sustainably and ethnically.
Consume a ketogenic diet, with daily fasting regiments, and on average a person will concern less protein and certainly very little grains. Lower consumption of grains will allow farmers to focus on livestock, and healthy vegetables. Just my two cents.
We all drive the market together.

I’m a male & 64. I lost 100 pounds over the past 20 months on keto/IF, (287 to 187) using 18 hour fast & 6 hour feeding window. I’ve been worried about the protein absorption. Thanks for helping to clear it up.
I do intense full-body lifting 3 days a week and walk 5 miles 3 days a week. I eat 200 to 250 grams of protein which means I need some whey to get there during 6 hours. I’ve plateaued at 187 with 12% or so body fat. Because my waist is still shrinking while my weight holds steady, I know I’m still making progress.
    Thank you again.

Hey y’all! Re: the comment about eating less of the animal protein and whey / collagen: for the record: what I was meaning to say here was some people have a difficult time digesting large amounts of animal meats in short feeding windows. So it can be easier to bump up protein with whey & collagen along with the animal meats. What I should have said instead of “better for the environment” was “just a better option for easier digestion”- thanks!

Omad is the most natural way to eat for any carnivore. Maybe is not ideal for a Cow.
It's part of of the cycle of the day. Get up, hunt and eat if you are lucky enough ...
In the past there is no fridges for predators. How old you are is not relevant at all. There is no candies for infants. All the people eat or not at the same time.
If one person is not able to get benefits from one meal a day maybe they are suffering from a health condition without even know it ....
Furthermore I dont know why you say she is old one time after another in several videos ... that's not real or even polite at all.
She looks great I could think she is about 29 years old by the way she looks . By her athletic performance even less

Yay! Finally, keto info for people in my age group, 57 yrs old, post menopausal. And even good info for my 85 yr old Mother!
I eat 18/6 window, OMAD most days. I love eating this way. But struggle with getting sleepy after eat a not so huge fatty steak. I haven't lost much weight, so backing off of protein. So many of us, in our 50's and 60's are struggling with weight loss wen being on strict keto or strict Carnivore. I lift weights also 4-5x a week.

Glad you brought up bone broth. I'm 57 (post-menopausal) and can totally relate to not being able to maintain muscle mass. I cycle IF 16:8 & OMAD and cycle Keto-LCHF-Paleo. On workout days (3x Bodypump with gym equipment thrown in and RPM per week), I drink salted bone broth (homemade & add 1Tbl of collagen) as a pre-workout and sometimes again before bed. Since eating higher quality meat and BB (allergies prevent me from getting near whey), muscle retention is 10x better and I feel like I did 20 yrs ago. Keep up these great videos!

This was very informative, Mike and Deanna. Thank you for the presentation. To me it makes sense that intermittent fasting would be a valuable dietary adjunct to a muscle building program. As Dr. Jason Fung has reiterated time and time again, several hormones like growth hormone and adrenaline are elevated during a fast, thus providing a more conducive environment for muscle repair and muscle preservation. Furthermore, depending on the duration of the fast, muscles are made more insulin sensitive, hence they would be more receptive to the uptake of amino acids.

@samira habib Strong Curves by Bret Contreras & Kelly Davis is an excellent novice program. Bret Contreras also has a TH-cam channel where he demos moves for women who are starting out. Deanne and I might disagree- but you want to incorporate the “big three” Squats, Deadlifts, and hip thrusts. To master those with weight, you need to learn the major hip hinge movements without weight first. Also, tricep work is helpful for most older women- cable machine and dumbbells are best.

It comes down to igf1 receptor density. The lack of dietary amino acids via protein causes receptor upregulation (ifg1 sensitivity).
Simultaneously, with the elevated HGH levels, when we do ingest protein/aminos more ifg1 is created which is ultimately what drives cellular proliferation of sarcomeres (i.e. muscle growth)
I would contend that it is not normal for a healthy adult to; lose bone desnity or the ability to gain muscle, or gain body fat and have lower hormones levels as a normal part of aging. And the reason these symptoms are associated with aging is due to accumulated damage to our bodies.
Damage that we were healthy enough to handle when young, but metabolic and cellular health once compromised can no longer handle unhealthy lifestyles very gracefully... And thats the reason its "normal" for people to absorb protein less efficiently as they age... Most are just unhealty
So i wonder, does being young and being ABLE to more frequently, make gains and seem healthy, really mean anyone should at any age?
Ate only one meal yesterday, close to 2lb bone in ribeye with broccoli and artichoke

  • @dealwolfstriked272
    @dealwolfstriked272 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mike,my theory on this is that its all about insulin. When you take in carbs too quickly your body over releases insulin.Ingest small protein meals and your body utilizes it more efficiently aka with less insulin release.Ingest a huge amount of protein at one sitting and your body gets flooded with more amino acids so more insulin must be released and insulin is known to be highly anabolic.
Now I believe that the OMAD benefit is the reduced insulin thruout the rest of the day re-sensitizing cells to insulin to handle the larger releases of one meal a day. Thanks for listening :)

at 66 years old and training for decades now, OMAD brings out my best. I'm ripped, i get complaments everywhere i go from people who know me or see me at the Gym. OMAD is simple and i love simplicity, no meal preps, i eat a different protein every day which prevents food intolerances, and it allows me to eat better quality foods. OMAD should be looked at by everyone to see if it works for them.

I glommed onto this pulse style of protein intake on my own and got similar LBM gains in short order at older age (63). I do 40 grams of whey with some select extra aminos and collagen powder then do the smaller portion than normal grass fed beef steaks and also some high quality grass fed animal organs and bone meal (Ancestral Sups). It works well. The only problem I have is that I get full and lose all appetite and the OMAD carnivore + whey protocol makes me sleepy (I work out fasted and eat 4 hrs later). I think what is happening is that my body wants me to sleep/nap to take in a GH cycle to use that anabolic refeed to kick off a decent late afternoon MPS cycle. It does not mess up my regular sleep later that night. I think that the body just has its own genetic programming to know when to make use of the protein and generate an "internal" circadian GH cycle. since it sees that fast whey hit the amino acid pool. The slower digesting protein from animal seems to keep the amino pool trickle charged for the rest of the day and night.

You 2 need to start a database for people who are experimenting with keto/carnivore/IF/OMAD where we can all enter our data including labs and diet composition etc... so there is more actual, real, current data. You could gather as much data as each respondent wants to give. Allow everyone to create a profile to track results and dietary changes over time. Then make it open to all... researchers/scientists/doctors/engineers etc. It could change how things are done.

I started OMAD and a style of Carnivore Diet to go with it. But my goals were weight loss and muscle gain. I need to drop 20 pounds and come from a long weight lifting background. My concern was the ability to build muscle doing this. I took your wife's advice on the have a protein shake 30 minutes after your meal. Hoping it's the trick that works!

  • @Sss-vs7pu
    @Sss-vs7pu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

This is because, when you get older, you have a higher protein synthesis stimulus threshold. Especially if you generally eat very little, eating several meals of protein throughout the day will never stimulate that synthesis. IF is not necessarily the answer, it’s just that you managed to pass that threshold by forcing yourself to eat more in that one meal.

Eat when hungry and drink when thirsty. Work out fasted and take your time and enjoy your kill/food. Make sure you eat some grass fed liver Raw once in a while too. Sugar is released in the morning from your liver. So little , i mean a little blueberries in the morning to start your fasting day for me works well. I might have a 1/4 cup of wild blueberry's just like in the wild and run all day long on those berries. This also helps with a little Vitamin C in your system.

    • @controlyourfuture5477
      @controlyourfuture5477 5 ปีที่แล้ว

5 or 7 grams of sugars from blueberries will not make you fat or stop growth but rather tease the shit out of your system and you might get hungry at first but say no and run all day without food and you'll be on fire until that feeding window. You think the natives walk pass some wild blueberries in the past and say, no I wanna fast till the hunt is over? I bet they ate those berries and felt good being that sugar was a rare treat and used for this reason to push the Men into the hunt with a boost of energy. After you burn those berries the body switches over to key-tone rather quickly and switching back and forth is a good thing. Even those supper low carb runners fine if they carb up before a race it gives them a push.

Good advice, I totally agree 👍 BTW, only one thing I've tried that surpasses beef liver and that is beef heart. It is freakin' amazing the energy surge I experience an hour after eating it. Not sure if it's the high levels of CoQ10 or because, unlike liver, it less biochemically active, and more mechanically stimulated/efficient with regular work, and therefore needs to be super healthy all the time to keep the animal alive but, whatever it is, it is just an amazing experience (but just my personal experience, everyone is different)

With broccoli or brussels sprouts sauteed in a liberal amount of avocado oil, then finished in the pan with butter (garlic & herbs optional)... I even cover them in cheese sauce sometimes (which is super calorie dense, just cheese, water and sodium citrate) thats at or over 2000 calories depending on portion size and cheese sauce.
Then i make a dessert out of full fat yogurt, ground hemp seed, half n half, heavy cream, eggs, cacoa powder and extra dark chocolate... With no added sugar. It turns out like a thick pudding/mousse and each serving is about 840 calories 30 grams of protein, and very little sugar/carbs. If im still not too full after dinner, eating 2 servings of this isnt hard and it really gets the calories up.

However, as a 52 year old without a gallbladder i find that i need to eat, snack, healthy food, fats, etc, over an 8 hour feeding window. In there is one bigger meal. One smaller meal. And some snacks of generally low carb foods as my body instructs me. I’m assuming that the lack of concentrated bile and without the ability to dump a hole lot of it into my system to digest fats, I adsorb the fats so much better if I ingested them with other food, and especially foods rich in vitamins only absorbable fat. However if I extend my eating window the gains are quickly lost. Conversely, shorten it and I struggle to feel satiated.

So you have to make up your mind tho? You either want to build or maintain muscle. Or you either fast, diet and lose weight. I dont think the two can be done together. Maybe an 8/16 window. But in doing a 1/23 omad, because I have put on a hell of a lot of weight on during lock down, as uk is still currently in lock down. I've thought about maybe having a shake in the morning to get a little more protein evenly. But its just not possible. My blood sugar level would go up, I would break my fast. And there for my body would come out of ketosis and then back in again just as I'm about to have my meal. So yh, two choices.... bike or maintain muscle, or lose weight and burn fat.

I do them now and then and sometimes I go into my FAR infrared sauna. But nothing beats the coffee enema, lay on your ri. side as you massage under the ri. rib cage - it makes you feel so good in the mind and gut, can be addicting in a good way of course. I'm used to enemas because my Mom did it for us when we were kids. If I have a headache, a coffee enema always chases it away. If a person thinks they're having a gallbladder attack or pancreatitis, an enema would really help -it's a matter of being physically able to do it. When I had a gallbladder attack, I couldn't move off the couch due to pain. Anyway, if interested, buy the sa wilson shade grown e- coffee. Question do you know when you use on your ninja magic bullet Vitamix for green smoothies so that you ingest the nutrients into your cells faster and better. What if you do the same with meats I think you can get more in side you and it be broken down better what's your thoughts?

No whey for me but I sure do appreciate your input & I love how you let us know how you did it for all the 40 plus women out here 😂....I stick with real food but if I ever wanted to try something else I will definitely remember this...you look good 😉

Flexibility? What do you mean? Changing the meat to powder ratio ? Are you really suggesting bone broth, protein powder and collagen as fast absorbing protein options when there’s tons of other quality options? I think the broccoli joke makes look quite bad. Oh and so don’t forget guys, pigs feces don’t smell as bad with one meal a day, therefore we/humans should try keto/carnivore omad.

    “Great for the planet” 🤔
More grass fed animals = healthier planet

Link Bass yep! We’ve been buying 1/2 grassfed cow annually for years. Better for your local community too

Right on. We go through 90lbs of burger alone from cow/sheep per month and 5-6 lbs of liver. All grass fed and finished. Hope to be raising our own in the next couple of years.

6:05 Lower animal protein is NOT "better for the planet". Grass fed beef is the least impact in terms of environmental impact of ANY diet, including vegan, which is VERY impactful on animal bykill and ecosystem destruction.

Thanks, boss! Yes we know. Most are not eating grass fed though, which is where that comment came from.

@@Highintensityhealth 87% of even grain-finished cattle weight is from pasture-feeding. Even with grain-finishing, they are no more damaging than "plant-based" agriculture, in fact since most of the grain product is inedible to humans anyway, they are performing a service in that sense.
The problem is gov't subsidies of corn, wheat and soy and the massive profit margins of unhealthy, grain-based agriculture overall. It is a SYSTEM problem, not a COW problem. We need more awareness and rehabilitation of the process, not labeling and demonizing of meat.

You should interview Peter Ballerstaedt. He has great info on animal ag.

Freestyle Hear ya. Not sure where you live but all the feedlots I’ve seen in WA state and idaho, the cattle are on concrete eating grain. No pasture...

@@Highintensityhealth That is only the finishing stages. Most of their life is on the pasture. Grass is still cheaper than grain. Pigs and chickens....mostly fed grain only, much worse linoleic acid profile. Talk to Peter for more detail.
