  • Time to roll back the clock and hit you with some classic Zealand football manager content. That’s right, tips and tricks that help you win at FM, with the only strings attached the B+ jokes. I take my time to put these lists together, as I play I keep lists of things I haven’t talked about before. This covers tactics, team dynamics, morale, set pieces, even some scouting. A full FM gamut of things you’ve overlooked that could help you win titles when you play football manager.
    The crazy thing is, I feel like I haven’t done this in a while. I hope you enjoy it. This is the equivalent of me being, like, John Mayer, then coming back on stage for the encore and playing Gravity. Football manager revolution that started with me making lists of cool tactic tips then presenting them to you with a massive forehead. Anyways - this video is a certified ‘banger’ according to Reece so enjoy!
    Sincerely,

    Hey! Another great tip for smaller teams looking to sign end of contract released players: towards the end of the season (start of March), request your scouting team to give you reports on the big teams reserve/U23/U19 teams. That way you have a lot of early scouting information on the players in that team that you can then use to make better offers for trials, or to trim down your scouting queue. It has done wonders for my scouting!

  • @79AlienFinger79
    @79AlienFinger79 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Another trick, when you play a bunch of friendlies in the pre-season, you can often risk injuries if your players aren't fully fit before each match, especially if there's a position where you don't have that much depth. The trick is to get a bunch of trialists in. They can play in as many friendlies as you want (and if they end up injured... who cares?)
    This mixes well with the trick of playing big teams in the pre-season for extra bank, just squeeze a few extra games in there and throw trialists at any congestion problems.

      I still find using pre season to get the team playing well far more important. I rarely have depth problems, and would rather use youth team players that have some value, than some guy I'm unlikely to sign. I mean, what are your scouts doing all year?

    • @Elvishly
      @Elvishly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lastpenny849 Depends what league you are in? I mean if you have a lot of scouts then yeah but in the lower divisions you might not have many players and may, indeed, need to sign a few on a free.

    • @lastpenny849
      @lastpenny849 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well maybe read between the lines and figure out why. Are you winning any headers in their box? If not working the ball in is a good idea, or hitting flat crosses. If you have space outside the box, you might have to change a player instruction to more long range shots, instead of the whole team... Shoot on sight can work well with short passes into the box, or flat crosses but I would rather not use it.

    A great smart tactic only lasts 6 to 7 months (unless its an engine killer) before every other team starts spanking you

    • @lastpenny849
      @lastpenny849 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to adjust the tactic depending on who is playing. Sometimes using the 2nd tactic or taking advantage of an opponents weakness (even if it means playing a backup) can often get you that one goal that you need. Adjusting set pieces and player instructions as the season progresses is also vital. Sure, you just push continue for a year, you are going to start losing..

    Great content Zealand. I smiled when you mentioned about praising those who perform well in training. I do that already, and also at the start of every month during the season, I go through the all the players at the club to look at how their progress is going and depending on their training rating praise them, encourage them or tell them off. Call it a monthly 1-2-1. There are a few cases where I think the player could be progressing better, but they think different and we both agree to disagree. For those players who don't heed my warnings and promise to do better but don't tend to find themselves on the wrong end of the transfer list. I have found that every player gets a bit of a boost and are always happy no matter my feedback.

  • @jayolsen8394
    @jayolsen8394 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I check my scouting priorities quite often, I am also prone to having several hundred reports in the queue at a time. But I remove the bad ratings (below 65/70) by sorting it by rating and using shift click to mark several players and aborting scouting assignments to get the better scouting reports faster.

    The one thing I find players and streamers getting wrong is adjusting individual player instructions. You all seem to believe that the team formation and strategy is enough, but I find that each player being different, you have to sometimes build a role for them. By adjusting the attacking and forward runs, including a few traits and tweaking through the development phase, you can mould players into doing more on the pitch than just being a winger, for example. Most overlooked..

    • @janbo8331
      @janbo8331 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree! It's not something that is just in the game, though. Generally managers/coaches can be divided into two categories: the ones who make the players fit a tactic, and the ones who make the tactic fit the players. The approach you described, and which I follow too, fits the latter.

    • @Theshabadaman
      @Theshabadaman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janbo8331 Even setting personalised roles for a few players makes a difference. Strikers are a good example. Your backup forward who's an aerial specialist will fare better if they're playing as a target man.

    About friendlies- if you are a poor team with a big stadium, cancel all your friendlies that were scheduled by AI and schedule your own - you can jam 10 friendlies into the pre-season and some more during the season if you have international long breaks. Free money in the bank!!! You could make a few million dollars per season by doing this.
    And playing friendlies during the season helps you restore your team morale and form as well (if you had a losing streak).

The things I find fun now is either; starting at the roots somewhere and work myself up, or go to a smaller country like Czech Republic, Denmark maybe Belgium, etc. and sit at one club and cultivate the whole league. I prioritize whatever nation’s own players and develop them, and if I can’t use them I sell them to someone is the same league, furthermore, I can’t have more than 3 South Americans. So satisfying when the reputation goes up, sponsorship becomes better, it’s satisfying af.

    Bring in a few cheap and decent enough players with model p and resolute for the B teams and have them tutor and tutor until your youngsters are all model p and resolute and become unstoppable. Spend money on defenders. And BWM types. There are far too many attacking players available even on free transfers, but no team lets their great defenders go for nowt. Look at 6 months players and how many right footed players who want to play on inside forward and AM. I know signing young players is the cool thing but when my goal machine is injured at Xmas, I sign someone who is happy to come in as backup and has a proven scoring record. I need those goals to win titles. Any resolute and professional types play really well up to mid thirtys. Only how to make not retire.

      I would suggest picking a captain with 3 main qualities. 1. He is a starter. In fact he is a must.
      2. He is a player you have contracted for more than 1 season. You don't want to be changing the captain too often. 3. Has strong mentals, teamwork, leadership, workrate, bravery.. it depends on his position aswell. Overall look for a player who is also high on the leadership board, meaning new signings are not always the best choice. You can make them vice captain, if the experienced long term club guy stops playing, the new signing will be the captain on the pitch anyway. So like a club captain (Giggs/Carrick), who didn't play every match..

    My cutoff for giving praise is usually a 7.5 rating, because people under that sometimes aren't happy with the praise. And only criticize the people that come up as recommended to criticize in the training overview message, I think this is generally people with a rating of 6.0 or lower.
    But doing this every time you get a training report is basically a free way to bump well over half your squad's morale by around a level. This along with praising conduct every once in a while keeps your morale high and seems to protect you against the vicious cycle that can start when you lose or tie a couple games, your morale takes a dip and then you have a bad few months of form due to morale not being high.

      I do this via the training menu (left) and than "individual" (above). You than get a list of all players with their training ratings sorted by that number. On the upper right side is a "praise" or "critizise" button. Workss faster for me than clicking thru every player and starting a conversation. But i must admit that I dont know if this only works for players I had set up an individual training for. But as I do set this to all players, it is fone for me. EDIT. This is also a good way to get an overview over the individual trainings progression or your scheduled repositioning of some players.

    a average scout can do 5 one week reports a week. so if you have 5 scouts i would suggest no more than 25 players are scouted for 1 week reports at a time. also they cant do their region assignments at the same time.
    to counter this struggle that Z mentioned in the video of it getting backlogged use analysts instead then using those reports to decide who gets scouted further
    in my testing so far one analyst can do between 20 to 40 reports a week

    Let BTN, WTS, Zealand , jolujo etc submit their best schedule for pre season, 1 week match , 2 week match and no match week

    Hi Zealand, as a fellow American I like that I am not the only one who loves this game.
    I have a few tips for you:
    1. Training - Max it out, 3 sessions a day, every day, and only use General and Physical training. I use 3 types of training based on the 0/1/2 game weeks. Would love to send you some examples for you to play with if you want, I have had extremely fast youth development and my players average 9+ training ratings.
    2. I used to play lots of Friendlies, in previous versions they were more important than this version, but they eat up valuable training days, as you can't do any real training the day before or after a match, so I really only do 1 match per week maximum and it works just fine.
    3. Use the Players - Scouted menu option in the Scouting tab, it is the easiest way to keep track of all the players you have seen. I always scout all the 15-17 year olds every season that I dont already have scouting reports for. Then, as the season progresses, they populate this menu option and I have a very nice list to cherry pick the talent a year or two before the big teams start to pay attention.
    Love the theory crafting dude, your set pieces are amazing, both of my CBs are now scoring 10-15 goals per season from corners, its been the difference maker more than once. Keep up the good work!

  • @FoxVert
