- testing a handful of 22mm bait pump washers l was down the beach on the long tides bait pumping for lugworm i met up with a few friends to try and help them with learning how to pump bait .But befor we could start most of the pumps they had was not fit for use no suction hard to adjust the list went on it tuned out to be the seals on the pumps ranging from tap washers to a variaty of seal you could by online if you look you will see there is not a great deal to choose from. i managed to get my hands on these seals that was causing problems and test them for myself the big no no for me is having to use liquid to keep them running smooth
Thank you Dave for the bait pump seal on the beach
Hi jess no problem mate thank you for taking the time to post👍👍👍👍
Built pump and made my own silicone seals, following your advise... First session 2 score lug. Brilliant for a total novice. Learning each tide. Thanks for great vids.
Hi that's fantastic you will only get better just think of the money you've saved your self happy pumping 👍👍👍
Thank you for the tips. When im back on mi feet. I'll be building and pumping my own. 🧔 👍
hi hope your getting better thanks for the post good luck with the pump 👍👍👍
Hi Dave I was able to get out and try my pump last weekend for the first time also took my eldest son we also took the pump I made witch I have just put blue seal's in. Bingo 200 in hour and half before that we was getting 30 in 3hours . Now he's saving up for another one of your pumps will let you know when he's ready possible mid September. Many thanks Steve
hi thats great news its paid for its self already once you start getting the worms it becomes addictive lol happy pumping👍👍👍
There’s a load of ways you can do it , its like a science experiment to find the perfect pump for your own beach . I make two types, one for traveling ( general use on different beach’s types ) and one for a sand beach for home use . Your on the money for making it same size as outer pump diameter, just shy of an 3/4”in height and just shy of pump diameter. Where I find what makes a difference is the way you use washers also , If you use a few mill short of id of pump is good for a gritty ground and for sandy beach use a washer that’s less big and it curls the silicon slightly around the washer as you pump . I always use a leather cap to keep most of the material away from the seal ( cut it a few mm over the size of the pump, it will look something like an old bicycle hand pump seal ) . Get the leather from old thick rigger work boots.
Hi paul thank you for taking the time to post a great coment i have seen the tip with a bit of leather or wellie we are lucky the beaches around here are mostly nice soft sand a few places which are stoney happy pumping and tight lines👍👍😀
Good video pal.. noticed there was a flip flop on the table 👀works a treat up here but you can hear it sounds gritty sand down there.. worth a go pal 👍 try looking at 316 stainless for the main rod.. guaranteed it'll last longer in an abrasive environment 👍
hi mate that was not the best flip flop lol they are a mix of 316 and 304 shaft they do take a beating plus now i make them not a problem i think 3yrs to a shafts not bad😀hope your species hunts going well
another great vid buddy
Lo mucker hope Ur good mate👍👍👍
Another great informative video Dave cheers
Hi nigel cheers mate hope your well tight line mate👍👍👍
Bought some blue ones off fleabay and they work very well still use the owld flip flop tho just nice to try something different
my friend loves the flip flop he tells me thats all he can use the sands that cause😀👍
Those yellow seals I had with my pump.
The pump is a DS Pump. The suction is amazing and never had an issue with it.
hi thats great what do you lubricate it with sounds good lol👍👍👍
@@hastingsangler Just some watered down fairy, not too much or it starts throwing it out the top where the shaft goes into the tube.
I use the yellow decent suction but I agree got to keep chucking liquid in 😢
hi thanks for being honest is it the seal or the washing up liquid thats giving you the suction i have had lots say they are hard to adjust cheers👍👍👍
@@hastingsangler it's the washing up liquid that gives suction, but I find sand accumulates around the seal so strip clean assemble
Hi Jon you are honest man i think if it works for you thats great at the end of the day as long as you get the worm thats all that matters happy pumping mate👍👍👍
@@hastingsangler yeah deffo but I would not mind trying one of urs 😄
i bought a pump with the yellow seals, useless,i took the seal out put a flipflop seal in and its spot on.
@@kennethgoward-iv5xt them yellow seals seem so hard to adjust my mate loves the flip flops lol happy pumping mate👍👍👍
Why not sleeve the bolts in the mould so when you take them out, the bolts cut into the sleeving, not the silicone 🤭👍
i like the idea but the bolts sit about 4mm down until i compress the silicone then i wind the screw the rest of the way up any ideas on what to use for a sleeve was thinking about straws cut down
@hastingsangler electrical insulation sleeving you can buy in different sizes or a straw whatever is easiest for you to get
Or make them with the bolts already in and sleeved, then add the silicone
have you considered PTFE bolts in the mould, the silicone shouldn't adhere to that, might improve the yield?
Prime thank you im always up for better ways i will give them a try get frustrating when you wait 8 days to cure and you can feel the threads riupping some on the seals thanks again👍👍👍
Good video dave as always could i get your details as i would like to purchase a pump
Hi Jack you can dm me on facebook hastings angler nice to meet you

@@hastingsangler
See you some time at Pett 👍👍
Hi Dave do you sell washers
LoL steve once i perfect the seals i will they work really 👍👍
@@hastingsangler they look good to me
@@user-steve Hi if you was local i would give them to you i just have it in my head are they good enough to sell i know they are but just feel awkward
How thick should the silicone washers be when making your own
Hi best results are when they are about 12mm thick too thin they snap and too thick makes them harder to pull
@@hastingsangler thank you for that my freind
@@DaveMielczarek if i can help i will good luck
@@hastingsangler thanks for that just purchased a 22 pump not tried it yet but just thought I'd have practice making some spares
All I will saY if they are yellow seals change them they are rubbish
