I don't hate Jaws 2. Roy Scheider's performance is what keeps this film together. The film expands on his character more and his relationship with his sons. After that, the film is like a teen slasher horror film where the shark stalks and eats all the teens who frankly no one really cares about. It's a decent sequel and the only worthy sequel to Jaws.
Decent isn't worthy for Jaws standards.

I LIKE the teenagers in this flick. And yeah, when people are THAT AGE they're lives and their personalities ARE a bit more SIMPLE. All your really into at THAT AGE is ohhhhh pretty girls and having a good time and hanging out with chums and the sort. Now were YOU such a complex "character" when YOU were an teenager? I also like the 70's STYLES they sported and displayed - the longish hair and the hats, .. . better than these awful shaven heads and tats that you see on todays adolescents.

I've seen Jaws 2 at least 30 times, and I STILL have to look away when poor Marge gets it. Every time.

Definitely the saddest death in the film. She was the one teenager who accepted Sean and made him feel part of the gang and then she gets chewed up right in front of him.

One of my favourite scenes from the film is near the beginning when the girlfriend and boyfriend are out on a boat and the boyfriend gets it. Then the girl is left alone hiding away on the boat and the main character guy (sorry forgot his name) rescues her later and she manages to finally express her fear and screams 'SSSSSSHHHAAAAAAAAAARRRRKKKKKK!' its so brilliant and great bit of cinema.
That's much closer to the 3rd act.
I love how proud of himself Chris looked when he gave Jon Bernthal the prank toy then the actual gift lol

Yep totally agree, I feel this review they are looking at the acting and style as if it was made yesterday, but this movie is old, but still amazing, I think the kids acting was great for the time it was filmed. TBH getting a little tired of seeing young people reviewing older films. Seems unfair

Jaws 2 was always the scariest jaws for me. It’s just because when I was a kid I did competition sailing. It always made me scared to go sailing on the ocean
Same here because I was raised in Key Largo, FL so we were always out on the water on canoes & boats without any adult supervision

Matt is totally right! The early drafts of the JAWS 2 screenplay were for the most part better than what ended up on screen. When the original director (John Hancock) was attached to the project he envisioned a much darker film than what ended up in theaters. Amity is in financial ruin in the wake of the first shark. Brody is suffering from post traumatic stress & paranoia. When the sailing teens are stranded at sea they get caught in a heavy fog. Which was meant to ramp up the tension so the audience wouldn't know where the shark would strike next. The shark attacks were intended to be more violent too.
I really enjoy the addition of Matt to these last two Jaws videos. His knowledge of the novelization and details of the various scripts adds SO much to the discussion. You two should definitely do more videos much like these two. Great stuff. Thanks so much!

This is one of the few reviews out there where when the reviewer gives an overexaggerated impression of characters in the movie and they actually have examples to show.
Love the John Williams' soundtrack. One of few scores he composed for other directors.
Williams had made loads of scores for directors other than Spielberg.

Are you referring to the curly hair kid with glasses? No. Napoleon Dynamite was made around 2003 or so and Jaws 2 was made in 1978. Though I agree that kid did bear a slight resemblance to Napoleon.
What if there was no shark but due to the previous attacks and the media frenzy surrounding Amity it was a series of mishaps and drownings trying to prove this is a shark attack hotspot. Then Surprise! the mate shows up no thump thump music for the giveaway. A boy who cried wolf storyline on human's primal fear of the unknown.
So, basically, the movie production...in the movie? The shark isn't real, but they sure as hell wanna make money by making you believe it is! Meta...

I've always seen the first Jaws as a horror too. I mean, honestly, that movie has some terrifying scenes in it. People assume that a horror needs to have frequent scares, or something supernatural, or something. But I feel that it's about a certain tone. Horror always has a certain tone to it, and the first Jaws in its scary scenes has that tone.
I haven't come this early since I lost my virgnity.

I saw Jaws 2 when I was younger, and I was scared silly by that shivering girl. I think it was the fact that I'd never seen someone act scared without screaming in a movie before then.

If I remember correctly in the original script for Jaws: the Revenge, there was this person who had a rivalry against the brody family and practiced voodoo magic and basically sent the shark after them.

This review actually brings up a good point. I would like to see a fan edit where the existence of the shark is left ambiguous, and the town is legitimately doubting Brody's mental state. I might actually try to edit that if it hasn't been done.
That would have made a better film and would have raised the stakes.

Director Jeannot Szwarc kind of "saved" this movie for the studio. As a reward his project "Somewhere in Time" was green lit. That one became a cult classic.

Jaws 2- A decent sequel to a great movie. Definitly worth a watch but nothing great or anything.
Jaws 3- Very dissapointing sequel

I think you guys are mostly nitpicking this movie. The movie is not as good as the first one, but who can top that? Although it was not needed, I think Jaws 2 is a solid sequel. Also, the scene when the woman pours gasoline on herself, I see it as a moment of panic and not stupidity.
Again i agree they are being a little unkind and unfair .I respect their views and knowledge for the most part but there is much to love in this solid sequel.Roy Schieder brings his great talent to bear and the supporting adults also do a great job .Even the shark bait er kids do well .Think about the teenage slasher fodder since this and tell me there wasnt some real fucking acting here.These kids were not supermodel carboard cutouts with jock douchbag ,nerd ,hot chick, and virgin. No they were kids with spots glasses and individual personalities.With the kids there was one or two so so performances but when i watched this at the cinema i found myself routing for them.These days teenage slasher fodder ,ie kids are so fucking stupid and annoying that i am on the masked killers side

@WHY NOT I personally think it was decent enough to get a B, Roy Scheider and the shark scenes were really good. The biggest problem is maybe the child actors but they're not terrible they do act like believable teenagers.
