I'm glad you guys are helping give Jaws 2 it's due. It lives in the shadow of the original but it's a fantastic sequel. Thank you Jeannot Szwarc for a wonderful film. I don't watch Jaws 3 & 4, but I always watch Jaws 1 & 2, that first sequel fits right in. Thank you to The Daily Jaws for putting this together.

He did a brilliant job on Jaws 2, shame he didn't do 3 or 4 aswell as he knew exactly how to create tension and make shark scenes unlike anything in 3 or 4.....Eddie's death, marges death, water ski scene and more all fantastic set pieces

    Top interview Ross.
I remember getting my hands on the JAWS 2 soundtrack before the film was released.
Excellent sequel, such an impossible task, with only a week's planning, to follow on from the original.
No Shaw, no Dreyfuss, more of the filming out on the ocean, we all know the problems that involved in the previous !
Spielberg 10 months away from taking the helm !
Would have been fascinating, which direction he would've pointed Brody in !

Have you noticed that the score for J2 is what Steven Spielberg originally intended for the first film, when he said that he wanted something elaborate, haunting and dream-like but instead got two notes? It’s like John Williams took Steven Spielberg’s original idea for the score and ran with it in part two.

My wife and I watched the 4K disc of Jaws 2 last night. Any fan of the movie needs to pick it up, it looks and sounds brilliant. Even with the original Mono soundtrack, some of the bass drops in the soundtrack are amazing.

Oh my god!! I'm one of those people that missed the barrel!! I've been obsessed with the films, especially 'Jaws 2', since I was 6 (45 now) and see it at least a few times each year and have never clocked the barrel at all...

I loved hearing that he and Roy worked it out. After hearing many of the interviews first, I just had the image that Roy was a bit of a diva (the perpetual tanning didn't help), but it is good to hear professionals figuring it out. Great interview! Love this channel and FB page.

You did a brilliant job directing Jaws 2, Jeannot, especially considering the time constraints and technical difficulties. If I were a director, the only thing I would've done differently is show the shark's snout less (it looked fake)--I just would've shown the fin, the body, mayhe a flash cut of the teeth, relying instead on the shark's POV to John Williams' thump thump theme. When you did that, it was just as terrifying as anything Spielberg did in the original Jaws!

Brilliant interview, covering all the most interesting aspects from the shooting of Jaws 2. I never understood why some people trashes this film when I totally loved it since the premiere. Like you said guys the original and part 2 are two very different films but both great. Spielberg did a masterpiece but Jeannot Swarc did a great summer thriller film that personally I've rewatched more times than the original. And that speaks volumes. I also prefer John Williams' score for part 2 than the original.
Can't wait for the 4k release coming soon. Let's pray Universal treated the upgrade as the movie deserves.

The other deleted (but filmed) sequence was the coastguard helicopter pilot getting grabbed underwater with the shark working. This made it to international TV syndication releases and made it onto youtube. I prefer the original ominous cut-away of, did he drown or was he eaten eaten fate? As the Director said your imagination, and certificate, makes the scene worse, especially as a child.

Made an awesome sequel, when you consider what he had to overcome. It is not the masterpiece that the first one is (especially when you consider what Spielberg had to overcome to make it), but is a really good movie on it's own. it is leaps and bounds better than either 3 or 4- the worst movie in the history of supposed A-list movies.

Wish you had asked Jeannot about WHY did he cut the underwater scene of the shark attacking the chopper pilot? I heard it was to get a PG rating, but it wasn't even that scary a scene. Quint's death was 100x scarier and bloodier than that one.
The one comparable scene to the pilot scene from the first movie is probably the shark cage scene with Hooper fighting the shark.

My older brother and his girlfriend took me to see Jaws 2 when I was 10. I prefer this film to the original because the kids were so similar to my brother and his friends in such a naturalistic way that it brings back really fond memories.
I also find Richard Dreyfuss annoying. I wish Quint had survived instead of him.

I think he's taken far too much flack for this movie because I get the sense he's had to defend his craft. This is unnecessary and now I find he felt like he had imposter syndrome but he is one of those rare gems that will work to prove that pure determination can be more useful than standard education.
Working in the water is very unpredictable so he deserves full credit for pushing forward with his own vision.

I AM A MASSIVE jaws fan. Nothing toucges the original. But I do love Jaws 2. It stands brilliantly just under the original. I also love Somewhere in time. So much so our daughter is named Elise. The connections between Jaws 2 is beautiful. Jeanot directing, Susan French was older Elise. And Verna Fields had gone from Oscar winning editor to a very high up position at Univeral. She helped Jeanot push & get that favour from Jaws 2.

I honestly think Jeannot did not know what you were talking about when you asked about the yellow barrel outside the Brody's house. Look at his face and listen to him when you ask. He not only doesn't remember it but he doesn't remember the significance of it. It was probably a touch added by Joe Alves. I think you might have reminded/explained to Jeannot its significance of the yellow barrels o the first JAWS film to help him remember it. Otherwise, another brilliant interview in this series!
