Hector was such a great fighter... I thought he won the fight but at the same time it was close... I was privileged to fight Camacho in 1995 and take him the distance... Two very talented fighters...
Wow! A real pro! I'm about to make my debut sir - I'm Sam - heavyweight - at Mike Tyson's height and 260 if I fasted everyday for months - I'll be either easily taking care of fury and AJ if he will let me - or having fun and fighting Wilder right away. May I show you the real best ever? Hint it's not Ali
Camacho was out of shape for that fight and I'm sure his heart wasn't in it, I still think he won and it's a shame that such a naturally gifted fighter would squander such talent.
He knew his foot-work could keep him safe, so he rarely set himself to punch with power. Great talent but gosh he was disappointing sometimes, even when he won. You're right, his career could have been so much more.
Whitaker was E extremely talented . However for whatever reason given he usually had "A" Side leverage He missed out on many big fights that would have tested him a lot more. Edwin Rosario's legendary Right hand down the middle of Pernel's Southpaw stance would have been a great challenge especially at Lightweight. Rosario Knocked out Anthony Jones in 6 Rounds with that same famed Right Hand two years previous to Pernell going the distance with Jones . Also multiple time 140 Champ Juan Coggi , Multiple Time 140 Champ Frankie Randall , Hector Camacho ,WBC Super Welter Champ Terry Norris in 94 when Pernell turned down a Unification match with Norris for the WBA 154lb belt Whitaker lifted off one dimensional Julio Cesar Vasquez . Ike Quartey and Jose Luis Lopez at 147 and Kostya Tszyu at 140lb .
I think if Hector had been a lot more busy with the hands he would have been up there with all the greats. But in most of his fights he just fights enough to win and survive.
So you say, don't mean your right. I see it the other way around. Doesn't mean I'm right either. But it's our opinion on these fighters. Respect your opinion as well though.
Pernell even said so in one of his post fight interviews whe n asked about fighting Hector pernell literally said "Why Now " this was between the years 1990-92. Based on how Pernell had his hands full with a injured Buddy Mcgirt and being Floored by Mcgirt in rematch and also Pernell struggled with Wilfredo Rivera I say Camacho would edge Pernell with footwork and speed. Pernell was at his best when opponents ca.e at him like JC Chavez , JC Vasquez at 154 Haugen at 135 Rafael Pineda at 140lb all these guys stood in front of Pea. Camacho struggled with power punching pressure fighters like Hall of Famers De la hoya , Trinidad and JC Chavez . Pea was not a stalking poer punching Pressure fighter . Pea was just a level notch below Camacho on speed and Footspeed.
I had Camacho ahead the entire fight until the last round. Haugen made it close when he won the 11th, then Camacho did nothing in the 12th and was penalized a point, which put Haugen barely ahead for me, just like the judges had it. It was a draw if not for the penalty point. I noticed the fight was much more enjoyable with only 2 commentators and silence for a few seconds in between. Today there are too many guys talking non-stop, too much sensationalizing when a punch lands and too much favoritism. In this fight, neither guy was favored by the commentators, they switched back and forth depending upon who was doing well. It was very refreshing to hear it fair and balanced.
Camacho's trainer begged him to take Haugen seriously. Camacho didnt. Camacho's entourage poisoned his mind him telling this was a pushover fight. Haugen was a cast iron tough guy who could fight.
Like him or not, Camacho was one of the best to step foot in the ring and on this night, he was cheated by two of the judges and the ref. Camacho clearly had his glove out to touch up and never touched Haugen for the point deduction. Just another example of corruption or incompetence, either way and undefeated champion was stripped of his title for being the best.
A little known bout. Hector's luck with the judges had run out apparently. Haugen issues Camacho his very first loss. Haugen was stripped of this win after testing positive for THC. So, Haugen nursed a blunt, then beat Camacho.
113-113 - I had it a draw. Camacho is an idiot for throwing that punch in round 12. Then after the deduction, took the round easy anyways when he should have known that now he needed to step it up and come forward. Few tough rounds to score. Crowd was really into it for Haugen. Camacho landed the better punches but Haugen was the aggressor coming forward most of the fight. When he had Macho on the ropes, the crowd would go nuts. How does Lederman give round 10 to Camacho? I think Camacho’s corner was not doing a very good job, either. First they got the rounds wrong when they said it was round 12 when it was actually round 11 - then they said the crowd was “slow” and that they dominated round 11 despite being out thrown, outlanded, and being on the ropes. I think that Camacho came into the fight underestimating his opponent and it showed in his cardio. Good fight. Camacho Haugen ROUND 1 9 10 ROUND 2 10 9 ROUND 3 10 8 ROUND 4 10 9 ROUND 5 9 10 ROUND 6 9 10 ROUND 7 10 9 ROUND 8 10 9 ROUND 9 10 9 ROUND 10 9 10 ROUND 11 9 10 ROUND 12 8 10
Just because you saw the fight the way you did, doesn't mean you are 100% correct. Now I'm going to watch the fight and score it as I see it. Let's see how my score card reads out. I'll be back to let you know my findings. Brb going to watch the fight right now.
🤨"Wow" I know Camacho had passed away",God bless and rest his soul", ,🙏,I didn't know anything about Greg Hogan",passing away", God bless and rest his soul also",
Haugen outboxed him the majority of the fight, regardless what the announcers said. He was the aggressor and was bouncing that jab off Camacho’s head. Hector looked flat and didn’t follow up on his harder shots. It was a pretty even a lot of the fight.
Don't know why Pernell and Hector Never met in the ring Same age weight and both southpaws Would have been a great fight Does anyone know why this match was never made?
Hector “macho” Camacho was a superstar in boxing where as whitaker was a subpar star only place he could sell out on his own was MAYBE in Virginia how the fuck was camacho on the undercard complete utter bullshit smh lol
He was a four-weight world champion, having won titles at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight; the undisputed lightweight title; and the lineal lightweight and welterweight titles.[3] In 1989, Whitaker was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America. He currently holds the longest unified lightweight championship reign in boxing history at six title defenses. Whitaker is generally regarded as one of the greatest defensive boxers of all-time.[4
Whittaker, also beat Rosariooo???, Shit, then who the hell did Rosario Beat, Ive seen several videos in which he gets his ass woopped, Why was he so popular???, It seems to me that Rosario was one of those over rated fighters
Wayne Lambert Right! Thank you. I knew that, just couldnt bring his name to the front of my mind. Did Boom Boom and Rosario even fight? Am I making that up in my mind?! lol
+ForeverBoxing369 No Rosario and Boom Boom never fought. Rosario was the WBC lightweight champion after Alexis Arguello vacated the title to fight Aaron Pryor. Boom Boom was the WBA champion during that time. Rosario was a quality fighter who could punch really well but injuries and personal problems ruined him.
It's called boxing my friend the art of hitting without getting hit as much as you can. Camacho Was His Own Worst Enemy but on top of his game he was unbeatable if you know anything about boxing. Drugs and fame and being undisciplined to a certain point is the destruction of most boxers you have to be discipline in the ring and out of the ring that's the key. My humble opinion.
Camacho start fighting like that after the Rosario fight Camacho have isane speed great foot work and a great counter puncher and he was the first showman in boxing they expert didn't call him de Puerto Rican Mohamed Ali for nothing 5 time Champion three in different division and he is a hall of fame

Great comment there Homer and well done in that fight. Not too many of us can say we went in with a boxing legend and went the distance too.
Thanks for the comment Homer. I agree, very few people can say they took Macho the distance. Hope all is well with you.
Vinny pazienza said camacho actually hit very hard. Whats your opinion?

Thank you! What a great upload. I love when it's a whole TV card. It's like going back in time. Great Job!
anthony jones was a good damn boxer a shame he or oba carr never won a title
Agreed Jamal Hinton as well Hinton, Jones & Carr looked like the future for The Kronk Stable
Anthony Jones and Oba Carr would Be considered on P4P Current list if they were boxing Today
Sweet P had a under rated jab
pretty much on the best jabs of all time...no one underates it
whitaker was a perfect boxer to the body or head and super defence
speed is the essence of warfare

Camacho was always a Wimp!!
Good fight. Padilla, always controversy !
No Pernell no Hector😢

Camacho gave Baugan a good boxing lesson and the judges gave Faugan a home town win.
And today Both Fighters are not with us today
Rest in peace warriors to the most entertainers in boxing at that time
Would have loved to watch Whitaker beat Camacho...

I’d pay a monthly for access to HBO boxing library.

JULIO CEASAR Chavez Chopping up = Greg haugen faster than you blink EEYE!!!!
Camacho just fought and they want him commentating 20 minutes later

Camacho's trainer begged him to take Haugen seriously. Camacho didnt. Camacho's entourage poisoned his mind him telling this was a pushover fight. Haugen was a cast iron tough guy who could fight.
First loss of Camacho's career
Now Haugen is the last man standing.

Camacho clearly had his glove out to touch up and never touched Haugen for the point deduction. He would win 40 of 45 times. Not a bad career. With 17 by KO.

Home cooked! They could have fought in Puerto Rico and Haugen would have won there too. Pernell would have beaten BOTH!
