Dip the cut end in a little melted wax, seals it off and helps it keep the moisture inside.

So if I buy one from the store does that mean it's ready to cook? Because they're pretty hard? Are they supposed to be super hard? Thanks for putting out the good stuff buddy

Yes. Butternut are pretty hard until you cook them. They should be hard even when ready to eat. I have never gotten a bad one from the store. Winter squash have hard and thick skin. This is what helps them stay fresh for so long.

I have enjoyed a few of your videos and I am wondering what part of Texas you are located in? I am southwest of Abilene and looking for garden videos in my area.

Thank you. I am about 20 miles North of Austin. It is surprisingly hard to find garden channels based in Texas.

I only use compost i make myself. I try to keep my garden as free from store bought products as possible.
