Just don’t add £15k of options to your Macan to get it to a ‘decent’ spec. I learnt that one the hard way! Better off buying the GTS where the spec is baked into the model variant and so residual value is better versus options being written down to 0 pretty much immediately.

Cool to see how values are different from one country to the other. In North America, a Jeep Wrangler is holding its value like crazy. Followed very closely by any Subaru you can find, especially the Crosstrek. Winters drive the AWD cars way up, here. The CX-30 is holding its value like in UK, however. Maybe a tad more in North America, especially in Canada.

They are going off the data provided to them and in the case of new launched cars, it's a highly complex algorithm that will project values to a high degree of accuracy. Without this, the manufacturers would have no way of knowing how to compute the PCP finance deals as without an accurate residual value to work to, it would be impossible to set the monthly repayment figures.
Considering most cars are financed nowadays, depreciation is actually a good thing. The sooner you hit equity the sooner you can voluntarily terminate your PCP and then actually recoup costs that would've been lost to interest. Paying to the full term on a PCP contract is like burning cash.

RIght now over here in Australia the Toyota Landcruiser are holding their value stupidly well. The 200 series (wagon) and 79 series (ute) are going for more than they cost new in good nic with decent mileage. I checked our car (2017 200 series Sahara), it's got 110,000 k's on it, cost $114,000 new and is still worth over $100k still. It's only dropped like $10k in 4 years. Nowadays the new 200's Saharas are going for between $120-150k. For those who don't know why it's cause Toyota is trying to be more environmentally friendly so in the 300 series they're dropping the twin turbo v8 diesel 1VD-FTV in favour of a twin turbo v6 turbo diesel and a hybrid petrol v6. So now all of a sudden 1VD 200's are skyrocketing
Not sure of what the situation is now we have the Mustang as an official import, but I bought a brand new Mustang GT in 2006 for £22k (thanks to a strong pound) and sold it in 2016 for £18k. Here in the Philippines, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and pretty much other European cars drop tremendously in value after 5 years (the standard loan or lease duration here lasts for 5 years). Brands that hold their value the most here are Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi and Ford (because of the Ranger and the Everest).

When you buy a car on finance, after 3 years you can pay the final payment or return the car - they give that final value price at the time of negotiation, so you can use that as an estimate
I‘m surprised that there are not more Toyotas higher on the list. I bought an MK3 Yaris Hybrid weeks when it came out here in Luxembourg an after 8 years when the warranty was over, I sold it to a vendor collaborating with Toyota. I bought it 18K€ with all the available options and 8 years later, the vendor bought it for 10k€. It had a door replaced an the back completely rebuilt (someone ran into it with 50kmph) so I didn’t consider it „mint condition“ even though you couldn’t see that any work was done. The buyer was aware about it (I told him as I‘d feel dishonest otherwise).

Just an idea for a video. The cheapest way to have transportation for lets say 3 years. So maybe a honda jazz, buy then sell, or maybe a toyota yaris lease? Would be interesting. Include running costs as well. Like service, insurance, fuel, etc. How cheap can you get a new car driving experience.

Tesla model 3 should depreciate faster and more, first there is now a Refresh, second owners need to pass on the incentive and tax reduction. It doesn't make sense to use the recommended retail prices. For example you get 10 % off an M2 and 40 % off a Tipo. When you compare the real prices the differences are way smaller.
Those resales are based on forecourt values or retail selling price, most people buying new cars and trading them in after 3 years are most likely going to trade them in for another new one in which case you won't get anywhere near the forecourt value. This if you bought the car for cash might be somewhat different if bought on PCP.

Considering most cars are financed nowadays, depreciation is actually a good thing. The sooner you hit equity the sooner you can voluntarily terminate your PCP and then actually recoup costs that would've been lost to interest. Paying to the full term on a PCP contract is like burning cash.

Nah the Lamborghini urus should be number 1 , because there is a high demand and no supply they go up in value , they start from £159,000 however you can’t find one on autotrader that’s 3 years old and isn’t under £176,000

RIght now over here in Australia the Toyota Landcruiser are holding their value stupidly well. The 200 series (wagon) and 79 series (ute) are going for more than they cost new in good nic with decent mileage. I checked our car (2017 200 series Sahara), it's got 110,000 k's on it, cost $114,000 new and is still worth over $100k still. It's only dropped like $10k in 4 years. Nowadays the new 200's Saharas are going for between $120-150k.
For those who don't know why it's cause Toyota is trying to be more environmentally friendly so in the 300 series they're dropping the twin turbo v8 diesel 1VD-FTV in favour of a twin turbo v6 turbo diesel and a hybrid petrol v6. So now all of a sudden 1VD 200's are skyrocketing

Not sure of what the situation is now we have the Mustang as an official import, but I bought a brand new Mustang GT in 2006 for £22k (thanks to a strong pound) and sold it in 2016 for £18k. I know the exchange rate changed a lot in that time, but even so... that's the least depreciating car I've ever owned.

Here in the Philippines, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and pretty much other European cars drop tremendously in value after 5 years (the standard loan or lease duration here lasts for 5 years). Brands that hold their value the most here are Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mitsubishi and Ford (because of the Ranger and the Everest).

When you buy a car on finance, after 3 years you can pay the final payment or return the car - they give that final value price at the time of negotiation, so you can use that as an estimate

I‘m surprised that there are not more Toyotas higher on the list. I bought an MK3 Yaris Hybrid weeks when it came out here in Luxembourg an after 8 years when the warranty was over, I sold it to a vendor collaborating with Toyota. I bought it 18K€ with all the available options and 8 years later, the vendor bought it for 10k€. It had a door replaced an the back completely rebuilt (someone ran into it with 50kmph) so I didn’t consider it „mint condition“ even though you couldn’t see that any work was done. The buyer was aware about it (I told him as I‘d feel dishonest otherwise).

@@jlai036 Most of the 'unlucky' part is avoided by carefully inspecting the vehicle and spending some time to understand common problem areas. It's not for everybody for sure. I'd buy a brand new car any day of the week if I had the money.

Tesla model 3 should depreciate faster and more, first there is now a Refresh, second owners need to pass on the incentive and tax reduction. Can’t just grab that money for your self if you didn’t pay full price for a car.

It doesn't make sense to use the recommended retail prices. For example you get 10 % off an M2 and 40 % off a Tipo. When you compare the real prices the differences are way smaller.
And ladies and gents this is why you never ever buy a new car.
Most people in the UK don't, they rent them on assorted leasing schemes.
Those resales are based on forecourt values or retail selling price, most people buying new cars and trading them in after 3 years are most likely going to trade them in for another new one in which case you won't get anywhere near the forecourt value. This if you bought the car for cash might be somewhat different if bought on PCP.
