I think the same as laptop batteries. The control ic goes into destruction mode when it senses low or hot cell. You would need an original battery from bose and ofcourse they wont help.
How did you clear the white wax material off the soldering points?
I would just cut the wires about an inch away from the board, trim the wires back from the new battery and solder them and heat wrap them.
