I have a 2015 macbook air with a pretty sad dual core i5. Since Apple no longer supports this, I just put Windows 10 on it to use it for websurfing and a security camera server. It actually feels pretty 'snappy'. I will say will be our last Mac computer since Apple claims to be a 'green' company but discontinues support after 5-7 years to force consumers to buy the latest and greatest. I am aware there are 'workarounds' to put the latest Mac OS on it and from what I've seen, older Intel based Macs run JUST FINE with it. There is no other reason for Apple not supporting this hardware, other than greed.

Not trying to sound like an Apple Fanboy but I'm trying to think of it from a computer science angle and maybe there is something in the M series chip that is the trade off vs Intel for a leap forward in speed, performance and noticeably less operational CPU heat when compared with their older machines. Appreciate your support my friend 🙏 In general Ventura is faster than Monterey but when it comes to unsupported machines, there are going to be many factors at play that would make every machine a single case. I have one in my workshop now so after the holidays I'll try Monterey first and report back my findings my friend. 🙏
How much space did it take up on the Mac? That's my main concern as I only have a 128gb. Also this seems to run smooth but I updated to Big Sur at least twice in the past when it just came out and the lag was so bad. Not sure if that was a limitation of he hardware or just Big Sur been new and problematic. I've seen others running this and Big Sur just fine tho
The SSD's do tend to go on these sometimes. That could potentially be the problem but maybe try OCLP Ventura. I've got another 2015 like the one in this video in my workshop right now and I just put Ventura on it and it's running really really well 🙏

I would personally go with the computer always because it will give you more functionality. The iPad is more portable on the go tho but then again the MBA isn't too far behind that and can go into a backpack with very little issue.

I almost traded my MacBook Air 13” Early-2015 to Apple for $75 but they re-evaluated down to $15 because of a dent greater than 5mm. Well I canceled the trade and they shipped it back. So now I’m installing Monterey with recovery mode (command + option + r). I didn’t think this machine supported anything later than High Sierra but I was wrong. The battery cycle count is at 654. Any chance I can get another couple years of use out of this machine?
Smart move and good choice my friend. Really glad you decided to try. Pretty sure yours has the soldered RAM so your stuck with whatever you have RAM wise but if you have 8GB your good. I would open and remove the fan and heatsink and clean it well including the entire inside and the vents on the rear of the cover on both sides. Then clean off the stock old thermal compound and ReThermal the heatsink/CPU and let it cure overnight before powering on again. That will give you a few more years on top of what you already have remaining as is. 💯 Appreciate your comment and support brother! 🙏🙏

Still working here with a 2015 Macbook Air but with the i7 processor, 8 gigs of ram version and a Fledging Feather SSD upgrade. For years, I haven't updated from Mojave until today that is. I'm currently downloading Monterey and after doing one mega clear out of all the software I don't use any more, a SuperDuper backup, then the Ventura patch. Sort of scary, but exciting. That all said though, this i7 Macbook Air, which was the only model you could buy directly from Apple, (also paired with a Belkin Thunderbolt hub) is exceptionally fast and powerful. A great little machine.

When you said "Sort of scary, but exciting" I knew exactly what you were talking about and made me think back to the first Macbook Pro I put OCLP on and it was a 2012 and not an easy task at first but like everything practice and experience over time will make anyone better and more confident with the process. 💯 Also OCLP has come a long way rather quickly version wise when looking at how much more user intervention was required in the earlier versions. I don't game, just need a good performance on browser: running website backend, TH-cam, word, excel, ppt, zoom meetings and emails. Maybe light editing once in a while on final cut. Would you recommend it? Also do you know if it supports the latest version of apps like WhatsApp and Spotify? I love it's portability over newer windows machines in the market today... I have the 4 gb model and it’s only very slightly slower than shown here only when you have more than 2 or so apps running and same goes for chrome tabs. Boot time is about the same. Absolutely usable with no major lagging.

I'd say go for Ventura using OCLP because it really is stable on this computer and OCLP is only getting better and better at a fast pace as time passes so once you get Ventura on there you can update your version of OCLP as the new versions come out. Battery life is really good on Ventura as well. In my experience better than any other macOS based on the computers I'd done so far using it. 💯 Hope this helps my friend. 🙏
I just bought a 2017 model to replace my more dated 2011 15" pro that was running Sierra. Only paid $200 for it and its plenty of computer to take with me on the go. I love that it can run Monterey natively and Ventura with a patch.
Hi! Was wondering if this laptop would still be good for using Photoshop? I saw you opened it for a test to see how quick and responsive it is but no content of using the application. I searched online and no one really gave an answer. I'm a college student so it serves my basic functions of web browsing, use of powerpoint, word, etc. I have picked up a position that is going to require me to edit photos for the use of social media and perhaps a little video editing for videos under a minute. I have a pretty beefy Windows laptop but I want to transition it for personal use and games and I am tired of carrying it everywhere lol. If this laptop can't run Photoshop, what else would you recommend? I only plan on using an older MacBook for about 1 1/2 - 2 years and don't want to spend more than $300 on one. Any information would be helpful, thanks!
Good question! Perhaps something a little stronger to get the full speed experience out of Photoshop but an older version might work just fine. Canva for sure will be ok. I would try CapCut for the video editing and see how it goes. Applications in general did open and work pretty quick/well on this machine. If price and portability is your main concern I think this will be ok but if you really need to use Photoshop to it's fullest I would look at a newer MacBook Air. Perhaps an M1 which while higher in price, will give you the speed, functionality, portability and longevity you are looking for. 💯 Really hope this helps my friend and thank you for your question/comment/support. 🙏
Ventura actually has great battery life on a lot of different Mac's I've installed it on new and older. At the time this was one of the best battery life laptops on the market and a quality replacement battery for this computer is well priced on Amazon. Just make sure to read the reviews beforehand if you choose to get a new battery my friend. 🙏 Hope this helps. 🤞

For your programs and profession I would go for a bit newer CPU/Computer to be safe with a higher resolution screen. If you really like this Mac and are using the programs lightly maybe this computer could work. It depends on your work load but to be safe I’d safe go for newer. 🙏
I upgraded my 2015 4 gb macbook air from yosemite to high sierra cpu and gpu temperature are working mostly at 65-70 degrees(celcius) is this heat normal? i guess it was cooler back on yosemite. But considering it's a newer version im kinda satisfied of high sierra. Still not sure tho. Due to temperatures and less battery lasting. Can you guys who know about it guide me for what to do? thx!
You might need to rethermal your CPU if you can manage it because over time the stock thermal paste on these computers can crack and become not as affective as when the computer was brand new. That’s a good place to start. If you end up trying Ventura via OCLP and do the post install patches afterwards, that may correct the problem. Never a bad idea to rethermal tho because that will give you a chance to fully clean the inside of the computer while you have it opened up. 💯

Fair enough my friend. That temp will be fine if that's normal operating temp under your normal usage. Like browsing and using the computer normally. If that's just the idling temp (computer on and not being used for 20 minutes) then it's too high. Ventura via OCLP might run cooler because it's more efficient with those background system services and processes that usually put more strain on a CPU and cause it work harder on older versions of macOS. Only way to know is to try really. 🤞

Now i realised using safari is better than chrome for me it decreased the degree a bit more now it is about 63-68 mostly when i use it like on youtube whatsapp and spotify and its around 55 on idle. Well now im kinda satisfied but i might try venture as well coz im curious xD so if i dont like it i can downgrade again thanks for your effort to answer my messages!
I would aim for a bit newer just to be safe my friend. That way you can use the newest versions without problems or at least the likelihood of possible problems 🙏
I’m not crazy about the speed and I’m not using editing apps. I just need one to study, basic word, excel, FaceTime, zoom. My concern is if it can be used for at least 3 years after now and I won’t be restricted to everyday functions in the nearest future. Like how they do with the iPhones. My iPhone 6 two years ago was basically useless. I want to make sure it’s not the same kind of problem for me if I buy it now.

Well! i5 with 8GB on the flash SSD of that computer will run very well. 💯 The newest iOS and macOS are actually more process and power efficient than the older versions and you will feel the difference on older devices. Especially your 2015. Your specs and Ventura are the magic. OCLP is just the spell 🙏
I would look for something a bit stronger depending on the type of programming you're doing. MacBook Air doesn't have upgradeable RAM slots unfortunately.

I would recommend something a bit stronger with larger newer SSD and minimum 8GB RAM but 16 if you can just to be safe. 🙏 This computer might run it tho. Hard to say so I always recommend stronger because it’s better safe than sorry.

Your 2017 will do very well on Ventura. I was shocked how well the 2015 in this video did on Ventura to be honest. OCLP just keeps getting better and the key is to make sure you install all the "POST-Install Root Patches" to get the best experience overall. 💯

I have the 4 gb model and it’s only very slightly slower than shown here only when you have more than 2 or so apps running and same goes for chrome tabs. Boot time is about the same. Absolutely usable with no major lagging.

I'd say go for Ventura using OCLP because it really is stable on this computer and OCLP is only getting better and better at a fast pace as time passes so once you get Ventura on there you can update your version of OCLP as the new versions come out. Battery life is really good on Ventura as well. In my experience better than any other macOS based on the computers I'd done so far using it. 💯 Hope this helps my friend. 🙏

Hi! Was wondering if this laptop would still be good for using Photoshop? I saw you opened it for a test to see how quick and responsive it is but no content of using the application. I searched online and no one really gave an answer. I'm a college student so it serves my basic functions of web browsing, use of powerpoint, word, etc. I have picked up a position that is going to require me to edit photos for the use of social media and perhaps a little video editing for videos under a minute. I have a pretty beefy Windows laptop but I want to transition it for personal use and games and I am tired of carrying it everywhere lol. If this laptop can't run Photoshop, what else would you recommend? I only plan on using an older MacBook for about 1 1/2 - 2 years and don't want to spend more than $300 on one. Any information would be helpful, thanks!
Good question! Perhaps something a little stronger to get the full speed experience out of Photoshop but an older version might work just fine. Canva for sure will be ok. I would try CapCut for the video editing and see how it goes. Applications in general did open and work pretty quick/well on this machine. If price and portability is your main concern I think this will be ok but if you really need to use Photoshop to it's fullest I would look at a newer MacBook Air. Perhaps an M1 which while higher in price, will give you the speed, functionality, portability and longevity you are looking for. 💯 Really hope this helps my friend and thank you for your question/comment/support. 🙏

Ventura actually has great battery life on a lot of different Mac's I've installed it on new and older. At the time this was one of the best battery life laptops on the market and a quality replacement battery for this computer is well priced on Amazon. For your programs and profession I would go for a bit newer CPU/Computer to be safe with a higher resolution screen. If you really like this Mac and are using the programs lightly maybe this computer could work. It depends on your work load but to be safe I’d safe go for newer. 🙏

I upgraded my 2015 4 gb macbook air from yosemite to high sierra cpu and gpu temperature are working mostly at 65-70 degrees(celcius) is this heat normal? i guess it was cooler back on yosemite. But considering it's a newer version im kinda satisfied of high sierra. Still not sure tho. Due to temperatures and less battery lasting. Can you guys who know about it guide me for what to do? thx!
You might need to rethermal your CPU if you can manage it because over time the stock thermal paste on these computers can crack and become not as affective as when the computer was brand new. That’s a good place to start. If you end up trying Ventura via OCLP and do the post install patches afterwards, that may correct the problem. Never a bad idea to rethermal tho because that will give you a chance to fully clean the inside of the computer while you have it opened up. 💯

Fair enough my friend. That temp will be fine if that's normal operating temp under your normal usage. Like browsing and using the computer normally. If that's just the idling temp (computer on and not being used for 20 minutes) then it's too high. Ventura via OCLP might run cooler because it's more efficient with those background system services and processes that usually put more strain on a CPU and cause it work harder on older versions of macOS. Only way to know is to try really. 🤞

Now i realised using safari is better than chrome for me it decreased the degree a bit more now it is about 63-68 mostly when i use it like on youtube whatsapp and spotify and its around 55 on idle. Well now im kinda satisfied but i might try venture as well coz im curious xD so if i dont like it i can downgrade again thanks for your effort to answer my messages!

I’m not crazy about the speed and I’m not using editing apps. I just need one to study, basic word, excel, FaceTime, zoom. My concern is if it can be used for at least 3 years after now and I won’t be restricted to everyday functions in the nearest future. Like how they do with the iPhones. My iPhone 6 two years ago was basically useless. I want to make sure it’s not the same kind of problem for me if I buy it now.

Well! i5 with 8GB on the flash SSD of that computer will run very well. 💯 The newest iOS and macOS are actually more process and power efficient than the older versions and you will feel the difference on older devices. Especially your 2015. Your specs and Ventura are the magic. OCLP is just the spell 🙏

I would look for something a bit stronger depending on the type of programming you're doing. MacBook Air doesn't have upgradeable RAM slots unfortunately.

I would recommend something a bit stronger with larger newer SSD and minimum 8GB RAM but 16 if you can just to be safe. 🙏 This computer might run it tho. Hard to say so I always recommend stronger because it’s better safe than sorry.

Your 2017 will do very well on Ventura. I was shocked how well the 2015 in this video did on Ventura to be honest. OCLP just keeps getting better and the key is to make sure you install all the "POST-Install Root Patches" to get the best experience overall. 💯
