As usual - this is much better than my review. Amazing stuff, Arthur!!
Except it's missing your sense of humour 😂
Haha I like your humor too of course I follow you as well
An alternative to the Tamron finally. I am hopeful of a 50-150/180 ish f/2.8 in the future, that would be a killer!
Yes! I am getting into performance event photography, and the only real options are the 35-150 full frames in this range.
Yes, I've been struggling between Sony 11mm 1.8 (more compact) and Tamron 11-20mm 2.8 (more versatile). I'd lean more towards versatility, but Tamron's size and weight put me off. Seems Sigma hits the sweet spot and the extra 1mm might come in handy as well.
@@angelsjoker8190 Sony 11 is only worth if you *need* the 1.8, otherwise get the Tamron or Sigma. I have the Tamron and I'm very pleased, it's also properly weather-sealed unlike the Sigma.
I can tell you they've announced their new 70-200 f2.8 a day ago. Their new lens will be for Sony FE and Leica-L. This is the time all Sony users are waiting for!!!! Im so hyped!!
i need 50 to 150 ...hope sigma makes it.
Huge thank you for the early feedback. It sounds awesome and makes me question my plan to go Full Frame when buying my next camera. The options for APSC are getting more and more and if Sigma keeps up the pace... Man o man. Good times for Sony APSC shooters. But in fact good times for APSC shooters in general.
However I would really like you to compare you gear with the equivalent on the Fuji side. They have so many great options in terms of cameras and lenses.
Keep up the fantastic work. Really appreciated.
Was waiting for your review on this lens ❤❤❤. Loved it man ❤
Nice review, Arthur! Really insightful stuff 🙌
**MADE IN JAPAN**... gotta say that I really love the fact that SIGMA still manufactures its lens in Japan for PREMIUM QUALITY CONTROL.
Agree
I had to go through 4 decentered copies of the 16mm f/1.4 to get a decent one so I cannot agree with that.
@@pifilos Sounds very unlucky. I've only been a photographer for almost a decade, and most of my lenses are from Japan. Never had any issues like that, including the ones from different lenses from Korea. Sadly technology is going to technology, so not everything with always be perfect...
@@ryuman757 yeap indeed that was unlucky. I didn't write the comment to bash Sigma in any way, they have incredible lenses. But those capital letter phrases in the OP comment aren't always the case. That is what I wanted to point out.
@@pifilos Yeah I was just surprised to see a consistent issue like that. I never really thought about a lens coming to me decentered, so now my anxiety is going to be heightened with any future purchase 😵💫😵💫
First comment to the apsc best youtube channel on earth
Agreed !
De acuerdo
Great lens! Great review! I have the Sony 10-20 and I agree F4 is dark. This definitely seems like a better option. Thanks Arthur.
Arthur, comparison to Sony 10-18F4 is a must. It was my favorite and artistically most inspiring lens ever with the NEX-3 and A5100 and I unfortunally was stupid and sold it 7-8 years a go. After that I have had Sigma trio and Zeiss 24F18 and Laowa 9mm but I almost dont photograph at all anymore. When I had that 10-18 I was very fascinated with taking photos and putting effort into them. So for about 7-8 years I have longed 10-18 back and this might be perfect opportunity, but test against the original great sony lens is a must. Distortions and Vignetting are interesting, and ofcourse most important the overall sharpness.
what do u think about this vs the old 10-18 f4/ OSS lens? is the stabilization good enough for video on this one w/ camera stabilization?
The active stabe should be noticeably better on the Sony.
keep up the good work man
Good video with solid comments on this lens. I just got mine and ready to go out and shoot with my 6600. Thanks for sharing.
I love your reviews and pacing. Thank you!!
I just got my a6700 because of you. Sigma 18-50 or 10-18, which should get as a first lens?
I really hope to see a Sigma 50-150mm 2.8 with 2 Focus and 2 Zoom Ring ❤
I also love the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for video. would love to try this 10-18 after this review!
I had planned on grabbing the 11mm 1.8 but now this with the 10-18mm is SO tempting! The flexibility would be great.
What did you finally decide?
@@gamadrid I decided to lose my job last month so sadly I still don’t have the lens or a camera to go with it 😂 Unless a better lens cotton out I will most likely still go with the 10-18.
Glad to get you a new sigma zoom to review for us apsc camera users. 😊😀
Wishes I waited. I bought the Tamron 11-20 2.8 some months ago. That extra 1mm on the wide end makes a difference.
Another great lens for the apsc camera
Good video. I certainly hope Sigma complete a 'holy trinity' of zooms, but hope for something more like 50-200 for a little more tele pull.
When it's about lenses for my A6700 my absolute preference are also Sony and Sigma. Well Arthur, you could be right with your prediction and that another new Sigma APS-C zoomlens soon will follow after this one as part of a series same as their primes. It's very great to see how lens manufactors are taking APS-C more and more serious with more new lens options. Even if i somewhere later would buy a Sony full frame camera. No way that i'm going to sell my APS-C camera. Hopefully this new Sigma lens will also be availible in my country The Netherlands very soon. Would like to try it out!
Tony, the white-haired reviewer, made an interesting crack. He said the A7R5 is the greatest or is the best aps-c camera made. This tiny lens, Sigma's new 10-18mm f2.8 zoom works perfectly with the R5 and I would guess the A7CR as well in crop mode. The pixel count will be the same as the a6700 and FX-30. What a great lineup of cameras. Maybe make a trip to New York, stay away from the city, or New Jersey with all the great camera stores and stock up.
Such a great review of this new addition to the SIGMA family! Appreciate the feedback!
Thank you for your review, very informative as usual! What about adding the Samyang Rokinon AF12mm to the comparison? How would that rate?
Love to see a battle between the Sony 10-20 and this Sigma 10-18. I want the sharpest corners.
Same!
WOW , thanks for this great news ! I have just rented the Tamron 11-20 to do some RealEstate tests this week-end to replace my Samyang 12mm . But didn't know Sigma will make this one!! Sigma lenses are so good !
Nice video thank you! In your experience is this or tamron 11-20 better?
Nice! Now can we pre-order the future 50-150 2.8? Great lenses!
Wow this seems like a great lens! I might consider this, I do mostly underwater photography and use a Samyang 12mm f2 AF. This might just be better
Thank you for your review. I think that is the lens that I will choose with the A6700 that I am going to buy, I hope I do the right choice. I have a D810 that I love, but it's sometimes a bit bulky when I travel.
Hey Art, great video! For vlogging/video shots/gimbal use, would you recommend this lens over the tamron 11-20? I'm a hairdresser using my clients as subjects to shoot video before and afters in a small single room space. Thanks and keep up the vids 💯
Really looking forward to when this Lens ships. I wish I could have it before my next content creation trip in 12 days
10-18; 18-50 and 50-150 would make a very nice trio.
Plus f/1.4 primes 16, 23 30 and very small 56
Great video. I have been using the Sigma 16mm 1.4 and its been great. Will definitely need to pickup this lens.
Would you recommend waiting for Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 now or just go with 16mm F1.4? I mainly do landscapes, but I also want to try out astro and street photography
@@qwerty-or1yg Well right now you can get the 16mm lens for around $350 or so new or used. I’m glad that I got the lens and love it. It comes down to your needs really. I love blurry backgrounds and the 1.4 is amazing for that. But if your looking for a wide angle zoom lens then maybe you can wait for the new 10-18 lens. Again it’s what your needs are. Now I will definitely get this lens since I love sigma and I’ve been looking for a wider lens for my Sony camera.
Am a Sigma fan, however, had been tempted by the new Tamron, be interested to see a comparison between this lens and the newish Tamron ( you were full of praise).
Great review. What about a comparison with the Leica 11-23 for L mount?
Now THIS is what I was waiting for from an APS-C ultra wide.
Thanks for this review Arthur. I've got a dumb question. Why does the lens barrel extend when going to the lower focal length?
Is this new Sigma a better choice for landscape, Astro and video compared to Sony E 10-20 f4 PZ?
Thanks for the video. Do you think 10-18 is comparable to 16-35 GM's quality or sharpness?
I am using the Sony 10-18mm f4 . Thinking of getting a f2.8. Can you do a comparison of this Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 Vs Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 (which you said was your favorite when it first came out). Thanks.
So how would this lens be for group photos or even indoor pictures for family events where one wants a wider field of view. I see you did a few movies. What are your thoughts about that? Any plans for a comparison with the Sony fixed lens 11mm, F1.8? Note that one can achieve 2x zoom with prime lenses with “clear image zoom” (on my Sony a6500 at least which I assume is the same on the a6700). Might that be a better option than this Sigma lens? Thanks.
Arthur, please make a comparison between Tamron 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD and SIGMA 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN
I still rock the Zeiss Touit 12mm f2.8 occasionally. I rarely go wider than the Sigma 16mm f1.4 though.
hey, would it be possible to make a video trying flash photography with this lens? i think the results would be really cool.
Hey Arthur, could you recommend a single lens? I have an a6700 with the kit lense. I plan to capture holidays, around the home / kids special occasions and pets etc.
I have a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and a Sony 11mm f1.8, both of which have a 55mm filter size, and I use filters frequently. This new lens has a 67mm filter size, which is a significant consideration for me as I would need to purchase different filters for it. I prefer not to use step-up rings, and my primary reason for switching from a full-frame (FF) to APS-C is to have a more compact and lightweight setup. For now, I think I'll stick with my Sony 11mm f1.8. I hope you're right about the possibility of a telephoto lens in the future, and hopefully, they'll make it with a 55mm filter size-haha!
With all the greatest respect, Arthur, at 7:30 you missed my favorite best value lens which I'm using all the time on Sony APSC, the Viltrox 13 1.4. It has very few weak spots and with the zoom rocker on my zve10 I can simulate a much tighter shot. 13mm is wide enough for vlogging even with active stabe on but without distorting the image like the Sony 11mm 1.8 prime, which I have owned also. Granted that lens is very compact, but price and the fisheye effect at 11mm make it a less desirable lens in my opinion.
What I like is that Sigma understod the APSC Game with thatcompact zoom lenses
I see you are stepping up your watch game. Nice GS 😉
Just a lil bit! :)
Is this len suitable for interior and architectural photography. Thank you!
i'll prob get this and the 18-50 2.8 sigma and call those my whole "kit" seems like they'll cover a broad range of uses and I always like the quality of the sigma lineup. Thanks for the great content!
What do you think about the difference in aperture between the 11mm 1.8 and this lens for astrophotography? Seems like it would make quite a big difference?
I am very confused between sigma 10-18 + sigma 18-50 or tamron 11-20 + tamron 17-70 needs for architecture, travel, landscape photography. Do you have any suggestions on which one should I choose? Thanks 🙏🏻
I hope sigma upgrades the 18-35 f1.8 & brings a much more updated & while at it using latest technology maybe they can make a 1.4 zoom in the same size as that old lens, it would a perfect apsc lens.
Also not to mention all the advantages of mirrorless they definitely can pull off f1.4 apsc zoom.
I would rather take 1 bigger size epic zoom over 3 smaller size higher fstop & lesser zoom range lenses.
Because i have missed many many shots just while changing the lenses.
But i have to tip my hat to sigma(zooms) & viltrox(primes) for making endgame lenses for apsc for 1/2 or sometimes 3rd the price of 1st party & most of the time 1st party brands don't even make those lenses.
me too,, a sigma 16-35 f1.8...
Can you make a video comparing this to the tamron zoom ultra wide lens?
I have the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and the Tamron 70-300f/4.5-6.3. I wanted to get one more lens and was thinking of getting a fast prime, most likely the viltrox 13mm f/1.4. Now this has released.......any suggestions?
can it be used in full frame mode like the old sony 10-18mm f4?
Excited to get this lens for my Fuji. Typically I shoot Sony A7R4 but all of my g Master lenses keep dying. I'm slowly jumping off the Sony train and rebuilding my kit.
Hi mice video. How about about Sony 10-18 f4 is sigma better ? Thx
One downside I recently discovered is that (at least in my country) Sigma absolutely will not sell/send parts to repair shops. Any part(s) change means sending it out the country to the central repair shop somewhere in Europe. Pricey, slow and not ideal. I'll still happily buy their stuff and this was damage from a minor fall which was my fault (focus ring stiff / MF not working).
re: Laowa, got it and love it but it has very strong vignetting and color tint eating into the image. Requires adding the appropriate metadata to raw files as well as building a custom default profile for PS or LR to automatically fix the vignette on import, in order to save time. The color tint still has to be masked out manually. It's quite a time:money tradeoff if used for profit (interior, arhitecture) with higher volumes of images. Just something to keep in mind if you're looking at this lens.
What would the range be equivalent to in a full frame camera?
Hey Arthur how would you compare it to viltrox 13 1.4?
There is also a sigma 16mm f1.8 dc dn. Do you think worth to get this if you have the lens that i mentioned? Thanks mate!
Love it. I was thinking of purchasing a Sony A 6700 but decided to forego that, stick with my
Sony 6600, and purchase the Sigma10-18 and 18-50 lenses. I appreciate your work. Thanks.
Yeah man, would be a wise decision if you don't need to upgrade your camera body atm, depending on what type of work you do and considering how capable the a6600 is. 👍
if you really looking up on video capability. yes. 6700 might for you. but if you not. still image does not really make so much improvement.
If there's a 50/150 f2.8 lens I'm gonna buy it! 100%
Damn Tamron just got obliterated
We need a Tamron 11-20 vs Sigma 10-18 comparison!
Whao I didn't see this one coming!
Hi Arthur, just wanted to ask: has this lens a built in stabilization? I'm thinking of buying it for my sony alpha 6300, wich has not in-body stabilitation. Thank you
Comparison with Tamron 11-20 would be great
This or Tamron 11-20 f2.8 ? Thinking on overall image quality
I need this one!! ☝🏼
ooo, I see it's available for x mount! Maybe my first zoom!
Great video as always. I think the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 should be part of this group. And, I just recently got the Viltrox 75mm f1.2, and that's a game changer. Viltrox is going to be a serious contender soon, I think.
The 13mm is great. I regret selling mine.
Planning on getting the Viltrox 13mm f1.4. How much do you love it?
I am planning on getting the viltrox 13mm f1.4 per your video awhile back. However, would you go with that or this new sigma 10-18? I have the sigma 18-50 f2.8 and a tamron 70-300 f4.5-5.6@@ArthurR
@@itsehsanh No tregrets whatsoever. It's sharp and has great contrast. It's very well built, but it's quite a bit heavier that the Sony alternatives. I don't have the Sony's, but I do have the Sigma 18-50, and the Vitrox might be even sharper. And you can't beat the price. The online reviews (which made me decide to buy this) are bang on.
Thanks for the review! I am looking to get it myself, primarily for the sharpness and the fact that I want a super fast prime and I do more travel photography than anything else. @@canucklehead28
Thanks!
Thank you!
Ooh this would be great in an ef-m mount for the Canon M6ii!
Can you also do a review of the Brightin Star 35 f0.95? like you did the 50mm? Thanks (or not if you don't).
It looks like a genuine compact alternative to Sony lenses - I think it will be popular.
Was thinking of getting the Tamron 10 - 20 as I have a Tamron super zoom 18-300, which I love with my FX30. This is cheaper and now I'm not sure. My other option was the viltrox 13ml f1.4
Just received my Sigma 10-18/2.8 that is going to be paired with their 18-50/2.8 on my A6700. Putting on the hood facing forward is not an issue. All the TH-camrs prepared to push it on. Putting on reversed is a different issue for packing. Haven’t figured that out yet. Will also be comparing it to the Sony 15/1.4 G prime that I have which I like a lot. My crop-frame kit is now complete with both this lens and the Sony 70-350/4.5-6.3 coming in the same week. FYI I shoot mostly full frame but like this smaller kit as well. Still trying to find a good small camera bag for it though. Suggestion appreciated.
I have the Sony 11mm, its pretty great, but your Sigma is so much more versatile!
And one can't really replace the other: Sony's 11mm is often too wide, but it can do Astro.
basically, I need both! - thanks for the review!
Would you recommend waiting for Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 now or just go with 16mm F1.4? I mainly do landscapes, but I also want to try out astro and street photography
Depends on what you like or need. Both are great lenses. Do you need 10mm? If so, this is the lens.
Another great Sigma option
Well... I preordered.
thanks
Since then, they actually dropped the price of the sony 11mm f1.8 to 500 bucks! Its a no brainer whether you choose the sony or the signa 10-18mm
How does it compare to the Sony 10-18 F4 OSS?
Thinking about replacing my Fuji 10-24 WR 🤔
this makes me antsy for the 50-xxx likely coming next! Has there been any news hinting at when that might be expected?
what about the viltrox 13mm f1.4 over the sony 11mm?
Do you have a review of the Zeus’s Touit 12mm?
3 to 4 years ago we had no good uwa for Sony aps-c? Did you mean no good bright af uwa lenses for Sony aps-c? Rokinon 12mm and Laowa are pretty good still, apart from some CA on the Rokinon.
is this one good for real estate photography ?
I love my 11mm 1.8 so I don't think I'll change, but more wide angle options = more better
Arthur you're absolutely fabulous 🤩
RE vignetting on FF: My Sony A7R3 has a setting for auto APS-C/Super 35 mode. Would this setting fix the vignetting?
Excellent video. I've had Nikon equipment for years, but I'm switching to the Sony A6700 mainly because of portability and because I don't see any interesting Nikons at the moment (for my case as a traveler) . I have an old Sigma 10-20mm that I love on my Nikon (but it's a few years old) and this one seems to have come at just the right time. However, I see that the Sony 11mm f1.8 is currently around 500 euros. Since the Sigma will cost 600 euros, is it worth the difference? My main use will undoubtedly be photography (landscape and architecture). What do you think (because said that you love that lens), given that the Sony will be cheaper?
Did you make a decision between these two lenses?
Thanks for another fabulous review!!!
After a month of use. Which one do you prefer the Sony 11 mm or the Sigma 10 to 18 mm
Did you make a decision between these two lenses?
I would buy it like now
Hi. I'm wondering how wide is 10mm. Do I really need a 10mm doing landscape or street photography. I'm in the market for a wide angle lens. I have almost decided on Sony 15mm f1.4 but this 10mm focal length is also tempting to me. I currently own a sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I personally think 15mm(Sony prime) and the 18mm(sigma 18-50) zoom focal length are not too different though sharper? Any advice from anyone would be appreciated.
Does tamaron 11-20mm has distortion at 11mm?
