@@chinpals After learning about all the needs of a Chin I often wonder, is it really worth it? I don’t have one myself but I’m considering getting one. Love this video! Chinpals! you are a credit to the chinchilla world. Thank you for giving new / current chin owners a reliable and true place to find out how to properly care for their chinchillas. Believe me people, you cannot trust most sites online or books at pet stores. They do not know how to care for your chins properly! And most pet stores do not have safe supplies for your chin, except for maybe hay.

This is so informative. Thank you. I owned a Black Velvet chinchilla in the U.K. but he seemed not to like being held. Chivers developed Slobbers ( the teeth issue ). Sadly he did not recover from the anaesthetic. One day when he was out enjoying sampling any wood in the house ( only out for a few minutes and I kept an eye on him ) he jumped in one down a flight of stairs. You and they are amazing.
Loved all of this info!! So helpful for myself, but also anyone interested in chins! I’ve been trying to find better methods to keep our chins cages clean all of the time - especially chin-safe cleaning supplies! (It’s hard to trust all of the crazies out there on the internet. 🤪) I’ve been using Nature’s Miracle, but glad to know the Vinegar solution is safe, too! 🙌🏻 I’m venturing into the realm of making our own wooden ledges/toys soon, as 4 chins is starting to add up on costs! 😂 (As you well know!!!) Gotta give our babies alllll the mansion & toys they could ever dream of! We only use untreated kiln-dried pine here. 💯 As always, thanks for all you do! You really are such a reliable source of chin info, and that helps me feel better about all chin health and care, worldwide! 🙏🏻
About to buy my first Chinchilla soon and I found your video extremely helpful! I found a lot of things to be similar to guinea pig care. Thank you for posting!
Got my cage, food, toys, ledges, hammock and more today! I’m gonna be getting the chinchilla tomorrow! Also I just want to thank you for these AWESOME videos. They have really helped me learn more about chinchillas.
Greetings from Spain! I just got a chinchilla and (I'm absolutely in love) want to do my best to keep him save, happy and comfy. Thanks for all that info it's so apreciated :)
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been needing to really make my chins (I have two!) better and safer for them and this is so useful. I already know how to sew so this will be really great on saving money from amazon.
I'm been looking into getting a pair of chinchillas. But I've been struggling to find a good cage. I have seen both cages mentioned in this video on amazon, and I was worried about the plastic shelf. This has helped clear a lot of my worries. But also showen I've still got a lot to consider. Thank you
I don't have a chinchilla & definitely can't get one (no time to take care of them) but I have watched so many of your videos because they're so interesting & entertaining. 🤘😎👍
Thank you so much for this info, I like to get a lot of information about chinchillas I got my little girl chinchilla about a month ago, I’m trying to upgrade her cage (I’m gonna get a HUGE CAGE) so far she’s happy in her cage (is a big cage but I would like to give her even more space)
I have pet rats but I was watching this to see if i could come up with any good ideas. And the tile idea is great. Rats need a dig box so a full tile bottom is not ok but tiles sould like a great idea to cover bar flooring in middle floors or shelving. Thanks.n
So I got chinchillas about a month ago, and their cage isn’t that big, and we can’t afford to get different ones. What do I do? The cage is not safe for then with the wires, they don’t move a lot, and theres not like tons of space to jump. What do you suggest I do?
Well, it sounds like a difficult situation. The easiest solution in my opinion (and I say this gently and with love) is to consider surrendering them to a chinchilla rescue near you or attempt to find them nice homes yourself ❤️ A proper cage is a critical first step in getting a chin, and only the first of many, many costs that come with owning chins. Since it’s only been a month or so, I think the transition wouldn’t be too bad for you or them, and truly might be the easiest thing! However, if you’d still like to make it work, cover all wire areas with fleece or tile, both of these will only cost under $10, and tbh I’d go with tile since cleaning is much easier. Get a glass baking dish as a litter box from dollar general or Walmart for $5-6 and fill it with KD Aspen or Pine bedding from your pet supply store. Not cedar, not paper bedding. Then, you’ll need to start looking for a used big cage or start saving for a new one. Search for them places like Facebook marketplace or Craigslist, don’t just limit your search to chinchilla, search ferret, bird, etc, more will pop up you can scroll through, and just clean it well if you find one! The inside of the cage you can DIY with ledges, see that part of the video 😊 good luck deciding what to do, hope this helps! You are more than welcome to message us (@chinpals) on Instagram too!
What if u need to have your chinchilla in your room and have two heat vents but the heat vents are only on during the winter And What if you are on a budget Where would you get the 50:50 water vinegar mix How often do you need to clean tiles
I am looking to get my first pair of Chins. Your videos are amazing! As far as room temperature goes, is 70 degrees the max you want for their comfort? Also, how many days can I leave them safely on their own if I take a trip/vacation? Thanks!
I have a midwest critter nation cage. I'm interested in getting tile for the bottom of the cage. Do you know the measurements? In regards to ledges, I am so excited to start my own diy for ledges!!! I never thought of this. Thanks for sharing this info 👍🏾
Of course, it’s our pleasure to share!! And the dimensions should be in their description on Amazon; I’m not 100% sure what they are exactly! I do know, that regular tiles you can buy don’t quite fit perfectly and will need to be cut a bit!
If I’d want to give the chinchilla more room, would a custom pen attached to the cage work? To give more room to run around and for toys and enrichment? But still keep them from going where they shouldn’t?
Iv had hamsters for a while and i was thinking of a different pet after my currently hammy. I was doing brief research on ferrets but they wouldn’t work for me. I think a Chin may be perfect!
Just found this video. We got two chins on different days but at a reptile expo. The last one we got we found out she has been in a cage I guess with some mice or rats or something they said but we still went on and got her and she was hurt with small holes in her ears and is very skiddish. We got the first chin the day before and she is fine. They are both females same home breeding they said 🧐. We were given cages but they have plastic platforms and plastic stairs. So for now they are in another until we get the bigger one updated today. These are our first chins to have.

hey. what cages are those pls? do they come with a divider? i have 2 chins and need to seperate them at first and was looking for a good cage. Thank you! ❤
Hi! I’m rescuing two brothers in a few weeks we planned on keeping them in the basement (it’s finished) but it has small window light would that be enough? They will be allowed upstairs when it’s free roaming time I just didn’t know if they need a lot of light or not too much and obviously we have lights but I mean like sun light 😅 if that makes sense !
I have two Chinchillas. I would like them to have a comfy bed to sleep in. Unfortunately, they chew up every bed I give them. Any suggestions? I have tried a couple of fleece hammocks and they destroyed them.
eh I'm sure it's the same way it is with people, some people won't take interest in it until they have a lot of stored up energy. sounds like a lot of people who buy an exercise machine like a bicycle or a stairmaster or treadmill and never use it
I want to ask you a question about chinchillas. If someone has one in their home all the time is it okay to have a single chinchilla in that situation. Cuz I personally I'm home all the time cuz I'm on disability. And I could spend enough time with a chinchilla that it wouldn't be lonely. I currently am a hamster Mom I have a dwarf turbo hamster and he sleeps all day. But I am kind of working my way up from small to bigger animals. Because I got to make sure I can afford to have the animal When I Get it. So currently I have a hamster it's a dwarf hamster. I think the next hamster I might get is a Serbian hamster which would be a bit bigger than the dwarf hamster. I think from there I'll probably either get a ferret or a chinchilla maybe a rabbit I don't know yet. But it made me wonder if having a chinchilla by itself with a person that's home all the time would that be okay for the chinchilla. Or does the chinchilla need a chinchilla friend.
Hello! We are planning on getting a chinchilla for our vet tech class and we are doing research. We want to make a cage with wood so what wood should we use for that, what size, and how would we use ledges? Also should we get 2 or 1? Our two choices are an old female chinchilla and a 3 month old female chinchilla. If we only get one we are getting the 3-month old one. Is there any other recommendations you would give to us for when we get a chinchilla?
I'm trying to get one if my Q let me and I live in a state home and I so want one and I hope I have enough space for her or him. My cat Midnight past on last night and it was hard saying good by because I was not there in person. I had to do video chat to say good by to my furry baby boy. :( He's in haven with his little sister. So I hope that I can get a Chinchilla for a pet.
