Very helpful and much needed insight into why ftp might fluctuate and why it isn't the be all and end all of cycling performance. Top effort, look forward to the race video 👌
Great ride Ed. Wikipedia says the Great Dun Fell is technically a "tundra climate" so maybe you even got it on a good day. Footage in the cloud looked cool at least
Did it earlier this year & at 65kg I was blown off with the wind on the descent, climbing it was reasonably acceptable but on 34 chainring & 32 sprocket, thank christ never had to it as a hill climb!.
@@edlaverack You should have seen the other two tubs in the pack. They looked like they were about to burst even though they were in date and in the fridge (dairy yoghurt). I'm plant based but have never been keen on soy yoghurt. My main treat is a massive bag of dates.
Those gates... Definitely need someone to open them for you when you have a proper crack at the Strava segment ^^' Strong performance nevertheless! :) Idk why I notice these irrelevant details, but isn't the car you normally drive a white one? Are these rental cars or have we we missed out on some second-hand car shopping? :P Ps. The further away he gets from Wales, the less you hear that welsh cadence. Init? ;P
Did this 3 times in one day a few years back. It seemed to get easier with each effort. An other-worldy place to ride a bike. Like nowt else in the UK. Still go back to experience it again every year though.
superb climb isnt it👍. about 37mins for me to get up it😂. note. its pretty much a no go between oct and march. too risky with ice and no visibility plus 40-50mph wind is normal from the west up there.
Ed, we need to speak about the word literally. Remember a few months back when you said your new frame weighed literally nothing? Now you’ve done a hill blind, literally! That means you saw nothing. Why didn’t you crash?😂
Hi... Do you think it is possible to win the British Hill climb championship on a standard road bike in 2021 without modifying the bike to be lighter? Thank you
No. You can’t get away with it on a short climb. If the bike isn’t in the 5kg range you will be on the back foot IMO. Even most mid pack riders are on 5-6kg bikes. There is no barrier to entry though so nothing stopping you riding the even on a folding bike!
Dude, if you do it again and it fits in happy to help out with the gates. You will just have to give me a 5 minute head start.
:D

I was reading "Great Fun" but then I watched the video 😂 It must be a beautiful view when it's clear ! Nice video 👍
Form looks super mate. Nationals only 3mins... damn thought it was 15mins and perfect for you.

Cheers dude 👍
You got a good day for it 😊

I nearly got put in a ditch at the top, not experienced anything like it!
On my to ride list, a route out and back starting from Shap, when I've got the legs and gears to climb it :D
You can do it!
Great result and start. Just be aware of the yoghurt- my sister got food poisoning from a yoghurt this weekend.
I don’t think I’d ever give up yogurt 🙈

Massively agree Ian!
Well done 👏
UK Hill Climbing FB page has joined the chat ;-p
Have a look at Andrew feathers ride up the climb. Think that’s the conditions you want 😂
Don't tell me it was a tailwind pleeeeassseee!!

@@edlaverack Cheers. 3 out of 4. I'll take that.
It's not easy being first...when everybody releases videos at the same time xD
