@@ohno5559 It's a pretty unlikely thing to happen unintentionally through normal play, so it's probably not a big deal. It's certainly not a game-breaking bug, and one can probably just go back and play what they skipped if they want.
This is not a “problem with making your overworld 3D” bro it’s only possible because of how several other mechanics operate and their oversights, i.e. teleporting jank in conjunction with how unrestricted the collision is. This kind of thing has been done in 2D overworlds many of times, it’s not an overworld issue it’s a mechanics issue lmfao
This only works because they implemented collision etc. for non-free roam areas which didn't need it at all. If they hadn't done that the glitch wouldn't work.

If a game is well made enough you won't encounter any glitches until you find the specific thing that breaks it. Playing OoT normally you'd think nothing about it is broken at all, but looking into speedruns you find out the game is barely holding on the entire time because of how broken it can be. Modern games, especially in the west, are so outwardly broken, it's hard to realize that games that work fine are also broken in their own way. It's common knowledge now that Pokemon Gen 1 is a fucking mess, but no one playing it back when it came out had any idea.

i was there in the discord the night all this was found. It started at around 9 PM when a user BurgerWithFreys was able to skip the world 1 palace. then a couple hours later, a user name Roblox found a way to clip out of bounds anywhere on the map where there was a dotted line starting which begun all of this craziness! I was the first to theorize that only worlds 4,5 and 6 would need to be beaten to unlock the game, which was then proven true by a modder of the game. The next 4 hours into the hours of the morning were people optimizing and finding ways to skip the first 3 worlds and abuse the new out of bounds. All of this was in the span of 8 hours and was crazy to be apart of!
This is the best thing that could've happened to a 2D Mario game, the run was over 2 hours without skips, and now the world record is 1 hour 30 minutes, a more accessible run length IMO.
I'm always up for big glitches like this existing. If it's something completely out of the way that you actively need to look for to access, then it's like an unintentional secret that doesn't at all harm the core game for most players. Speedrunners and glitch hunters get to have fun with them and it doesn't hurt the experience for everyone else, it's a net positive.
Nice video! I think it's easy to fix (for Nintendo) since you can set whether an event will be executed only if the player is on ground or also while mid-air.
I’m definitely surprised Nintendo didn’t implement a bounds check for characters every other frame or so. If a character is OOB, snap them to the nearest in-bounds coordinate.
The Switch's computation speed was never particularly fast, and that's true now more than ever. It might seem trivial to add something like that as a one-off, but there's literally just not enough headroom to design a whole game with such expensive calculations running constantly. It always has performance implications on such weak hardware, and to what end? Blocking a tiny minority from exploiting a game mechanic?
