Thanks so much for the polished and balanced review of our new MobileStudio Pro, Brad. I really enjoyed the production value and appreciate the positive notes and feedback/criticism. I want you to know that I've sent this video, along with your feedback, to the right people here at Wacom, so thanks again! ~Brian
Shame you guys don't actually care about looking after you're existing customers. You're customer service has been nothing but shocking with my issues of my CC2.
I' didn't thought wacom would make another mobile series! I was gonna go over it until their old ones wasn't getting stocked anymore and they ushered me the wacom companion. However, it was so expensive I opted for the ipad pro. I look forward to saving up for this one! thx for the review! You've gotten better! :D
This is the first good review I've seen about Wacom products. Thanks

Been following the channel since the beginning (old smashing magazine reader) and I love how confident you have got with all this video thing! I'm probably never buying something like this (overkill for my needs) but really enjoyed the review and all the humor you put into it. Specially the price reveals hahaha
Thanks for the fun and informative review! I've had an MSP16 on order for about a month now and I'm constantly yearning for more information about it. FWIW: Illustrator has been crap on my Wacom-based Samsung ATIV 700T tablet for a while now with the newer Wacom Feel drivers. It just doesn't respond to the stylus in any consistent way. I try to roll the drivers back to earlier builds, but Windows 10 keeps updating them without asking me. If I'm doing vector illustration, it's actually easier to use my finger with the touch screen than it is with the active stylus in Illustrator. No problems with drawing in any other programs tho. I draw vectors all day in After Effects shape layers without any bugs at all. I was looking forward to my Illustrator problems being a thing of the past with the MSP, which I am getting this week, but I guess I'll have to wait until Adobe or Wacom gets whatever that conflict is sorted out.
GASP! Nice review Brad! :) That pen performance is just we all look for, and the more reason to get that shiny new Cintiq Pro with the same Pro Pen 2. The Mobile Studio Pro is awesome, but just priced a tad too high for me, while the Cintiq Pro 13 seems to be perfect (and for Mac user too). Macbook Pro 13 + Cintiq Pro 13 looks like a perfect combination, also with only a single USB-C cable to connect them. :) Looking forward to your Surface Pro comparison!
This may have been the best review I've ever seen. The ONLY THING it's missing, like every other review I've seen for some reason, you need to start with THE PRICE. Not sure why EVERYONE forgets that.
I love your videos MANNNN!!! lol The most thing that made me laugh was when you were putting the prices with your reaction on the backround.. I REALLY LAUGHED SO HARD.. WISH YOU ALL THE BEST
Thank you so much for this review! A week or so prior to the announcement of the MobileStudio Pro, I recently got a Cintiq Companion 2. While I love it, I can't help but wonder if the MobileStudio is an exponentially better tool. You did bring up a great point about diminishing returns in regards to the already great Wacom styli and the more-clunky-than-portable size, so I'm assuming it's not that much different/better? Also yes, I agree with you: I just gotta have 16GB of RAM man. Thank you again for this in depth review, and you got yourself another fan out of me!
This is really what I've been waiting for. Portable digital art studio that can run big boy software, with POWER. Hauling the laptop and intuos around is a lot LESS glamorous than I'd imagined.
Thank you for emphasizing the diagonal lines. That particular maneuver breaks all of the other pen technologies and makes calligraphy and cursive hand writing difficult.
The pen goes Vertically on the holder. It fits snuggly, has a little hole and everything. Plus it makes it look more like an old classic desk. Nice review.
Fantastic review, as always. There's something really really nice about someone who knows exactly what the flaws are that they don't like about a device, but they don't lose it over like one thing being wrong. Most people seem to be so hesitant to ever decide on something Interesting that the way you do it doesn't seem to come off as indecisive. Oh Brad, again not really related to this video, but another note on Affinity Designer. I remember you complaining that with affinity designer, every time you make a stroke with the pen tool/vector brush it makes a new layer. If you make a new layer, and then start making the marks with the pen tool/vector brush it will automatically group them in that layer, rather than just throwing them in the layer box as new layers. It's still not perfect, but it helps to at least automatically keep track of things and keep it organized. Again, don't want you to feel forced to do a review or revisit it (I've already bought it, so won't change my opinion either way :P), but wanted to let you know in case you do ever go back to it. I don't know if what I described is similar to illustrator or not, since I've never used it. Still not sure if there's a different way to do it, like a setting to change somewhere (the settings panel is a bit bleh). EDIT: Also, I remembered, if you import an adobe illustrator file (I've been messing with the vector files for twitch and youtube logos to learn a bit), it imports the curves as they are in illustrator, which seems to definitely be different than how they work by default in designer.. So either that's just how it does it and it's a strange edge case they designed to work with illustrator files, or there is some way to get stuff to behave like it does with illustrator in settings somewhere. EDIT TO MY EDIT: so that may just be the combine shapes tool in action, because I was able to do it with my own vector drawings.
Hi Brad, I have been watching your videos for months and as an illustrator myself can relate to a lot of things you say in them. Now i really hope you do make that pros & cons video of this tablet versus the surface pro 3. As it has been my main drawing device since launch last year. But the N-trig pen technology in it still isn't as satisfying as my experience with Wacom intros product line. So i subscribed to not miss it.
This is the best review I've seen so far. I was looking for every piece of information you gave. I really appreciated the side by side from 13'' to 16'', the texture and the touch recognition. I hope that I can get used to using the hot keys over a keyboard- that sounds pretty nice. Question, at 2:33 did anyone notice the lag response of pen movement and ink? Can someone tell me if that's a typical thing for these mobilestudios or was that just a minor fluke? My intuos tablet glitches every now and then with that issue and I know that I can't deal with that for more than few seconds without losing my mind. Thanks again
Hey Brad I found that some of the lag has to to with whether the application is using the integrated versus the dedicated card. If you right click on the app you can force it to the dedicated. Just restart and you may see a difference.
This video needs more cowbell... I mean wheezing... Although, you wheezed it right out of my price range, the comedic effect was perfect. Flawless Victory :-)
I'm currently using a Vaio Z Canvas for my main art tablet, which Is the best execution of microsofts' N-trig stylus I've ever used. It's good enough that I wouldn't run out and get this Wacom as soon as it's available, but the studio pro definitely looks like the direction to upgrade when the time comes.
3:44 It is. When you are working on bigger files, it gets really hot. Like it gives me even little blisters. But with drawing glove (and maybe some performance adjustment) it is manageable, and in winter it is great heat source. :D :D One thing to say, is that i have version 13, and with slightly lower specs than best 13 is. By the way, thank you Brad, i somehow did not realise that i can put that pen behind my ear. :D And as a user many months of mobilestudio, totally agree with everything you sayed in video. ... 8:52 yeah. this product comes with very small amount of accessories. But you really can buy any notebook snatd for your home, and i am using it without any on road.
I just learned that Cintiq Pro 13" and 16" are coming out next year -- January and February respectively. This may be a better option for desktop users looking to get the Pro Pen 2 without getting another computer.
I'm pretty sure that there's an industry standard for separation of USB type c ports, that's probably why those adapters fit beside each other so perfectly...
Also, I think a computer with the USB-C port has to have DisplayPort functionality enabled on that port. Most laptops, like the MSPs and the MBPs will have that functionality, since that's how they get video out. I doubt you can get video out of a $35 USB-C PCIe add-on card for your PC, though I could be wrong.
Really interested in your thoughts comparing this to the SP4, so will be looking forward to that video. Also thoughts on if you had the to choose this or the Surface Studio. Already have a fully loaded SP4 (and like it). I do like the idea of attaching this to my computer but wonder how that will be with a Mac desktop. That and it's a concern that it's not out yet. Great video as always!!!
Great review as always! Nice to see Wacom release some quality hardware as a myriad of cheaper alternatives have hit the market and even consumer grade hardware has started to eat Wacom's lunch.
I love these review videos. I'm curious as to how much "tooth" these wacom products have vs the matte screen protectors you've tried. I've bought an Ugee display and a note tablet and the biggest problem for me has been the need for more friction. I wonder how much better, if any, Wacom's solution is.
Hi Brad, great channel and great reviews! Maybe I missed something but I cannot find your review of cintiq pro 16. Are you planning to review it in the next future? Thanks a lot
Hi Brad, had been following your video channel for quite some time. I like how you give the reviews with the point of an artist. Just curious to know whether there's any virtual keyboard for this Wacom Mobilestudio pro as if like those available on the iPad?
I still use my old trusty Wacom Pro Tablet. Wouldn't the added level of pressure sensitivity be more beneficial to those who alter the pressure cure? Meaning I'm very light handed with my stylus, and don't tend to press that hard. So I shift the pressure curve so that I get a nice range of line thickness without really having to press super hard.
AD JITTER: You are completely right! But it's not problem of the surface itself, it's problem of Windows. Wacom goes around this with some kind of "antialiasing" and they do GREAT job there. Unfortunetely most of other tablets has this pain, because Windows see them as "mice" and they don't understand diagonal lines - so they make average of right-up movement and in slow-mo, this averaging works badly = jagged lines.
Hi Brad. Seen a couple of your videos, appreciate the thoroughness of your reviews. I have one question, which is perhaps more philosophical than technical: the price, non-upgradeable parts and other constraints are concessions to mobility. Do you find that to be enough of a priority for you, or for your peers? I am a dabbler, hoping to get more serious about art, but I find that my life and schedule are such that relatively large, bulky devices that happen to be more portable than a laptop but not _significantly_ so really don't change my ability to do work at all. In the end I use them at my desk at home-right next to the other machine they were supposed to replace. I've never seen any evidence that a decent number of artists are taking their new tools and creating work in coffee shops, or whatever. At best they move from a desk to the couch. Is this emphasis on "mobility" somewhat misplaced? Thanks for taking the time, cheers!
you have very good points. the price for this astronomical. one would seriously have to consider their work flow when looking at something like this. I could see this product working pretty well if you attended cons a lot and needed a digital studio at an artist alley... or if you were a public speaker or teacher-- and the surface pro wasn't good enough for you.
The thing is, you can just grab a Surface Pro 3/4 or iPad Pro 9.7" for your ideation/sketching on the go, and save the significant investment for your workstation at home. That's what I'm leaning toward right now, the only change being that I had bought the iPad Pro when Apple only had a 12" and I think I should downsize to a more compact device. I'm just wondering who really needs to carry a $1600 non-upgradeable PC with touchscreen and pen input around?
I like them because I spend a lot of time on my couch in the evening drawing but I totally see where you're coming from. Someone was asking me something similar on the live stream the other day. I think my dream setup would be a Surface Studio to work on most of the time and a Surface Pro, since I spend so much time at my desk. But the Studio has the same problem with non-upgradability even though it is a desktop computer it's just as upgradable as a laptop, you can swap out the hard drive but it's not easy. I stopped thinking about being able to easily upgrade parts a couple years ago when I got a laptop. Since about 2007 my Macbook has been my work and home machine and I've brought it with me back and forth. When I got my Surface Pro about 2.5 years ago I was still working at a company not at home so that came with me to. I had a Cintiq before that and it was a pain in the but to take back and forth. Even though my life has changed and I work from home now I guess I never lost that "drag my computer around" mentality.
Thanks for the reply, Brad. I think an iPad Pro or Surface Pro is enough for me on the go, so I'm going to skip this MobileStudio Pro (and save $1500+). I might even continue to be content with "just" an Intuos for my workstation.
I'd like to buy it pretty soon and I wonder if for artists you can really feel the difference in drawing quality between the surface pro 4 and the studio pro.
Hmmm...this certainly seems like a game changer of sorts. Wondering if I should sell my SP4 and iPad Pro to buy the 13" model so I could bring it with me on the road/coffee shop and then hook up to monitor when I am home. Thoughts?
Man, I'm just so in love with Procreate I just can't rip myself away from my iPad Pro. My world would really open up if they made a windows/android app.
Thanks for the great review! I'm pretty much sold, waiting for the 16 inch model to become available again. One thing though - that photoshop lag seemed pretty pronounced, even near the end of the video when you were drawing the character's fingers with what seemed to be a simple round brush. Any more thoughts on this after further use?
I've gotten brush lag in photoshop forever on pretty much every machine I've ever used it on. I've gotten used to it. Other apps don't have that problem.
I'd really be interested to hear further about any sort of feedback you got back from Adobe about the "bugs" you experienced with the touch going out mid project. Something I've battled with ever since I got my Intuos a little over a year ago. It's beyond annoying for me and by far the biggest drawback in my opinion. I don't even want to think about the amount of time that stacks up having to troubleshoot those issues myself. (Restarting, messing with software settings, display settings, etc...) But usually have to quit the program and reopen. Which is a major drag. Hopefully you get some feedback and we can get it resolved!
Unfortunately my report entered the black hole of Adobe customer support. I havn't heard anything and if past experience tells me anything I probably never will :(
i think you buried the lede: 15.6 inches! 15.6 inches! really a great size. i dont mind the aspect ratio as menus sit on the sides. great review. merry christmas!
Brad, are you quite convinced the brush lag was merely due to the Photoshop brush in question? I've yet to read a hardware tech tech review mentioning the working heft of the graphics card, etc
Is it something you could sit in your chair in the living room to draw, lappable, in other words? Also, does it support the Art Pen, that has rotation as well as tilt and pressure? Great vids.
Really great review! This is the i5 processor, right? I wonder if the i7 has less lag issues. What other drawing programs did you try on this tablet and did they experience lag as well? Thank you in advance if you take the time to answers these. :)
This is a great review! Really helped me make my decision on buy this, I just wanted to know if you played games it on it yet? Nothing too hardcore with max settings. I like playing games on break a bit like LoL, civilization, RTS etc.
I actually did load up a couple games from my steam collection. Cities skylines ran great. Civ 5 was OK, it ran well but it had no idea what to do with the resolution so the interface was tiny, when I turned it down it stretched out but was playable. It really bugged me that it was always stretched out, I never found a resolution that din't look bad.
Brad Colbow interesting, yeah the main concern is probably the games but other than that it looks amazing. Your video and comment is very helpful, thank you.. Still deciding on getting a ultrabook + cintiq or this
Nobody has mentioned the colour profiles. My 13 inch is either too red or too blue and wacom want £260 for a colour calibrator, that in some reviews say it doesn't work!🤨
You mentioned that there are multiple Windows apps for onscreen-keyboards/keys on Windows tablets. The only one I found was Tablet Pro - can you name some alternatives? (Aside from TP I found something old that did not work properly on Windows 10, so I'm genuinely interested; I need it only for photo retouching with Photoshop.)
Say Brad is this still a good drawing tablet to buy in 2019 vs every thing else coming out/is out like the iPad pro and the Surface line etc.... Also how bad is the battery life? Thanks for any info!
Hello! I've been dying to have this, and I'm so glad that a great review came out. Just a question. So does this need to be linked up to a separate computer in order for photoshop and other drawing apps to function? Another question is about Paint Tool SAI, one of the popular drawing apps. Do you know anything about it? If so, how much GB is needed for it to run? Anyway, thanks for the advice on the ports and stands. 100 bucks for the stand is just way too much!
Oh wait, your description has answered my first question, for this is the "successor to Wacom Cintiq Companion 2." Do you think that the portability is worth the money instead of something that will need to be connected to a device? Cheers!
Thanks for the awesome review. Do you plan to do a similar review for the 13" model? I have a few questions, if you can help? Can this be connected to X2 additional monitors and be used itself as a drawing tablet, if so what accesories are required. Do Wacom have stores where people can try hands on? (I'm in the UK). In the top of the line I7 model, is the processor the latest gen? I can't seem to find the exact spec.
I believe It can be attached to an additional monitor through the USB-c ports or be used as an additional monitor if you have a Wacom link. I'm in the US and I'm not near any stores where I can check it out, not sure if other countries do or not. And as far as the processors I *think* it is last gen. I believe the newer processors were just coming out as this device was released. Don't quote me on the processor though, I heard that through someone who commented, not a real source.
I can answer for you about UK stores; you can try hands on at Calumet photographic at their Drummond street London store, though I'd be sure to call ahead on the day about what products are in stock or available for testing. I called a few days before to see if they had a msp for testing, and they said they did, then travelled all the way there to find they didn't. They did have the 24" / 22" Wacom products to try, but still, I wasn't happy.
Nice review! A few questions for you. I am a lefty, can I use the tablet rotated the other way, so the buttons are on the right hand side? Also, how well does the on-screen keyboard work? I might want to replace my laptop with this, but it looks like it's hard to find a keyboard/folio type thing to work with this.
So.. let´s say that´s the new name for the Cintiq Companion, kind of Cintiq Companion 3? i´m kind of lost with so many different names for this device on last years... I´m an Cintiq Companion 1 user and still happy with it, but interested to see where are the big differences that could make interesting the jump to it ;)
Thanks much for your informative review. I got a mobilestudio 16 (i7) a couple of days ago, same as yours. It looks beautiful but the only thing is a constant fan noise, even when its idling and nothing is on the foreground, nothing super loud loud but still there is and you can hear it clearly. And of course it doubles or triples when PS is being used. I can convince myself when PS is running but my concern is why there is fan noise when NOTHING is running and all the apps are closed. Thought maybe it is the problem of this very device of mine, am not sure. I was just wondering if this is also the case with yours? I'd appreciate your response.
I'd get this if I had more money but at the moment I'm gonna get a refurbished Cintiq Companion 2 for about $799.99. I'll probably upgrade to this in the future when I've used the Companion 2 for several years or to something like a 22HD. Who knows? Maybe the Cintiq Companion 2 will be all I need.

Nice review Brad.
Thank You for sharing your perspective!
I just learned that Cintiq Pro 13" and 16" are coming out next year -- January and February respectively. This may be a better option for desktop users looking to get the Pro Pen 2 without getting another computer.
Great review! I have been looking at one of these for awhile and I think I might pull the trigger and get one :)
I'm pretty sure that there's an industry standard for separation of USB type c ports, that's probably why those adapters fit beside each other so perfectly...
I'm a bit envious. that 16inch looks great. in australia the 8gb is $3500, 16gb $4500..... omg...
Paul Summerfield 1000$ for 8 gigs more?
+CarlosColombia10 its not just the ram, 512ssd, better gpu, 16gb ram. $4400.00 beautiful product though.😂
Paul Summerfield Yeah i just looked at the link you gave me, it also comes with an i7 (the 3500 one comes with an i5)
CarlosColombia10 great piece of kit. Would Absolutely love one. probably not going to get one..
We get our wallets fucked by every tech company :(
I've never hit the subscribe button so quick.
+Aaf F Nice! thanks!
Thanks for your review, it really helps.
Bro, you're really really good. Keep it up!
Great review. Thanks a lot. This is the one for me :)
Great review. Thanks!
Nice to see Wacom release some quality hardware as a myriad of cheaper alternatives have hit the market and even consumer grade hardware has started to eat Wacom's lunch.
thanks for a great and humorous review (:
Funny review always the best, thanks for your video !
Thanks for the review. Did you notice the fan sound or the "warm" screen when you use it as a Cintiq screen hooked to a computer?
Fun review as always. That brush lag in Photoshop though is embarrassing. °_°
With import taxes and the ridiculous exchange rate I think I can afford the 13" one. Might cost a kidney though. Great video, man!
great review!
You're amazing! Love your review :) Funny and very understandable.
Great funny quick phrases, I love them! :D
Hmmm...this certainly seems like a game changer of sorts. Wondering if I should sell my SP4 and iPad Pro to buy the 13" model so I could bring it with me on the road/coffee shop and then hook up to monitor when I am home. Thoughts?
There are tradeoffs, I'm actually putting together a whole video about it, shooting to get it up Monday
Did you notice any kind of flickering around and above the pen cursor? it's most noticeable with a gray background
Man, I'm just so in love with Procreate I just can't rip myself away from my iPad Pro. My world would really open up if they made a windows/android app.
Did you ever compare this to the Cintiq Pro 16”? I didn’t find it.. will continue looking..
I havn't compared it to the Cintiq Pros. I havn't had the chance to use on of the Pros yet.
Well, I bit the bullet. I'll have the opportunity to scrutinize brush lag firsthand. My first cintiq after many years of Intuos use. Can't wait!
Nice! I think you're really going to like it.
I havn't heard anything and if past experience tells me anything I probably never will :(
Pressure is a bigger range (slightly) and makes it more fluid.
i think you buried the lede: 15.6 inches!
Buying*
Great video! Too bad I'm too invested in macOS.
Cheers!
Brad how does it run Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo? I would LOVE to see a video demo of those two on this device... looks like a dream machine!
We here at the internet say "we apologize"
So.. let´s say that´s the new name for the Cintiq Companion, kind of Cintiq Companion 3? i´m kind of lost with so many different names for this device on last years... I´m an Cintiq Companion 1 user and still happy with it, but interested to see where are the big differences that could make interesting the jump to it ;)
eduki yep
