  • This video explains how to replace the front Hub/wheel bearing assembly on a 2007 VW Jetta.
Note: Don't forget that both Wheel Bearings turn at the same time and because of that it is recommended to replace both, reason being is that if one is failing, the other will fail soon unless it was a defective part.

I did this today, and it went off pretty well. I used the axle bolt, partially threaded into the axle, to tap out the axle/cv shaft. My bearing had been making noise for a few months and it was getting worse. So no surprise the hub assembly was frozen in there a little bit. Hammering, prying and patience were enough to get it off. I did put on a slide hammer and yank the bearing in half, but you could do it without a slidehammer.
I did find myself putting the ball joint studs back in the lower control arm holes a few times. The reason being is I was not using pneumatic air tools like this pro. I was crouching in my drive way and turning wrenches like any regular guy. I could see there was a thin stabilizer bar that was getting pressure it was not designed for as I pried on the axle cv joint to free it from the hub and as I loosened four the triple square bolts that retain the bearing/hub assembly.

Good video, thanks for sharing. What size tools are you using; sockets for axle bolt, allen/hex key socket for brake caliper, socket for 3 nuts under control arm & such? Thanks man, take care from Tn.

HSIMCW, I'm in the process of changing rt front whl brng. Came in to find the 12x12 tool size, thanks. I had not intended to remove the btm ball joint, and haven't really checked the access to them. To the point! Did you remove this joint just for convenience, or is absolutely necessary to remove the brng housing? Sorry about all the acronyms, worked acft to long,, right at 50 years.
