Mr collins proposal scene with mr. Bennet was probably my favorite. Second to him crying at the end saying he thought Lizzy would never deserve anyone else....except Mr. Darcy :D
Mr. Bennet said: “I could not have parted with you, my Lizzy, to anyone less worthy.” I cried when he said this. Any daughter would have. Donald Sutherland, rest in peace. You were the father of my dreams.
He is so much the father we all deserve, kind, patient, excellent judgement for each of his daughters and I cannot imagine a more accomplished actor in this role. I love the sparkle in his eyes when he realises she has found her match. RIP SIR, you have earned your rest.
If your talking about the actor as a father, I agree with your impression. Mr. Bennet however probably loved his girls but he was negligent and therefore seriously endangered the prospects of his girls. Neither did he manage his finances to save adequate doweries nor did he keep his family in check causing great embarassment to the elder children and lastly leading to one of his daughter's downfall.
❤😂 And, I always thought it was Mrs Bennett who caused the girls a great deal of embarrassment ⚘️ especially trying to force Lizzy to marry Mr Collins, ( Potatoes ) Lol, clearly 1 foot shorter than than she 😂
Mr. Bennett is one of my all-time favorite characters and Donald Sutherland played him so beautifully! I love him so much. My heart is broken that he is gone, but at least we have this on film to remember him by. I will never watch it the same.
The best accent in the world. The most beautiful voice in the world. The wisest loveliest face with twinkling eyes under bushy eyebrows. You have been a constant in our lives for so long. Whenever I saw you displaying your craft so late into your years, I would feel such comfort. Thank goodness your wonderful legacy lives on. RiP Donald Sutherland. With much love, from South Africa ❤
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I went to the movie theater alone because nobody wanted to see this movie. I was a puddle of mush by the end of the movie, I felt like I was the one falling in love. I couldn’t wait for it to be released on DVD! I loved Donald Sutherland before this movie but I adored him after it. He was an absolute legend, and for me, there will not be anyone who comes close to his level of talent. Rest In Peace
“If any young men come for Mary or Kitty, for heaven’s sake, send them in! I am quite at my leisure.” From tears to laughter, I just love his portrayal. They even used the same mannerisms, covering their mouth when laughing, it is such a beautiful scene.
What a marvellous portrayal of fatherly love. I was fortunate to have a father with similar sensibilities, a wry sense of humour and a kindly, gentle spirit. I also had five sisters, so he was kept busy, possibly more so than Mr Bennett.
He was almost intuitive here. I'm not an actor, but he lifted this character right off the pages, to the utter delight of his castmates and the film's rapt viewing audience.
Quit referring to movies based on Jane Austen's novels as "rom-coms." They aren't! They usually have humor, but they are much more than some lightweight, "girl gets guy, eventually" silly romance film.
Rest in Peace, Donald Sutherland, he really brought the witty wisecracks of Mr Bennet to life splendidly.
Donald Sutherland really gave us the best Mr. Bennet of all the P&P adaptations. What a fantastic actor he was.

I loved the scene where he was so kind to poor Mary and comforted her.
He was soooooo good in this role. His performance really added a true layer of depth to the story and character.
He was such a sassy Mr. Bennet, which makes his humbling in the latter half of this version deeply moving.

My favorite version of Pride and Prejudice. He was stoic and Keira Knightley was the best Elizabeth. Will miss him.😓
And Rosamund Pike certainly the perfect Jane!
"You're really do love him", I love this part and what's next. Love his tears, and his emotion. It was the best way to end the film. So beautifull!

Hi
Donald Sutherland OWNS this role of Mr. Bennet! And he didn’t even want to do it! He makes this version of P&P my absolute favourite׳❤

Absolutely killed this role I wasn’t able to find any other Mr Bennett version more befitting than him. I thank him dearly for the performance he did

It's a classic.
Why ? Because the author is famous and it was written in the 19th Century ?
