Matthew wasn’t the most conventionally attractive man but his acting was so spectacular and witty, he came across as the world’s most beloved bachelor. Excellent yet underrated work.
We may have not seen the kiss in the rain. These two actors successfully made that kiss mentally happen using their impeccable acting ability. I saw the kiss. Bravo. That's real acting.
In the moment the mental kiss happened, Lizzy became Elizabeth, you could see it in her face. She knew Darcy was telling her the truth. After reading the letter, Elizabeth realized she broke her own heart. The actor's gave a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ performance.
He does a good job in adapting the character to modern taste. But I think that a more accomplished actor could have pulled off a Darcy closer to the Darcy in the novel. Undergone a transformation in character. Started out unpleasant and ended up likeable. Not that he in any way spoils the movie.
I'm a guy, and this movie was so iconic for me, it was only one of a handful of romance movies I'd actively sit down and willingly watch. The emotion, the composition, the dialogue. It made the idea of love and romance feel real and grounded, graspable even. It's easily one of my favorite from the romance genre.

I love how he seeked the true answer to his proposal in her eyes before saying anything. He knew she was lying because her eyes were saying something different. Their eyes have been communicating to each other souls so why would he deny what he sees right infront of him ❤
Beautiful and true. When two eyes say "I love you", the mouth could be telling "bananas, rope, mountain" and even "I.. don't...know..." And you will know that mouth is lying.
He was so perfect in this role. I'd never have pegged him as Darcy the first time I saw him but dayum. His eyes convey so much. The looks of pure longing

Ye still may speak this way if ye choose. Just as now, so it is back then, that all -- if not most -- men and women did not speak like the way Mr. Dickens writes. While we do have less information on the vernacular of the common people of that time, there is still evidence left. Since back then, the only medium that would preserve the way one spoke was paper, only the written word would be preserved and innovation in language would be moderated by the literary standard. Nowadays, our personal recording devices of sound and of light have democratized the speech and mannerisms of noble and common folk alike. While it is true that books may not be as popular as they used to be. But those with an intellectual inclination tend to be drawn to books to challenge themselves and to be able to express their souls. It is worthy to note that during Dickens' time, universal schooling did not exsist and that a great deal of people were illiterate or semi-literate. It is dubious that such people knew how to speak well. In regards to the children of "patricians" speaking like the "plebs" because such way of speaking has become popular rather than the way the "ruling elite" speak, that is indeed lamentable.
It is the very best version because of perfect match between these two actors and because of sofisticated director. It is always such a pleasure to see this masterpiece. Thank you.
