MCA died at 47, I just had my 48th. Dude accomplished so much, wish he was here for more. Love what you 3 did for culture beginning in the 80's, especially with me as a stupid little kid.
He was just 3 years older than me. I grew up in a small, rural, almost everyone white town. I started listening to rap, hip hop because I was a fiend for MTv. My first love was the Sugar Hill Gang. I used to play those songs on a boombox on the bus for a volleyball or basketball game. When these fools came on the scene, I loved it. I'm only 1:11 in but looking forward to this. Love to everyone still listening to old school rap and hip hop.
Fuck I'm about to be 45 and I haven't done dick compared to any of these guys. I'm a musician too. It makes me feel like I past up opportunities, but it also makes me feel like our society does not engender artists. If you want a great deep dive, listen to the No Dogs In Space series on the Bboys. Apparently if they hadn't started out with a settlement from British Airlines using their music in a commercial, they probably would've fizzled out before even meeting Rick Ruben. Very interesting lives these dudes led. And of course, much credit to the original BEASTIE, Kate Schellenbach, whose dismissal is the only stain on the group's record.
I love that it’s a collection of sooo many different people who have been affected by the beastie boys. I imagine a group of celebs just BEGGING to be in this video. And I think that’s pretty accurate.

When I was a kid, my dad found this completely randomly on the TV on Spike Channel back when that still existed and he fell in love with it. He would watch it every day for the next few months and would not let anyone touch the VCR out of fear of someone erasing it. Every voice I grew up with as a kid, every actor from movies and TV shows I watched as a kid are in this video whether I know them or not. He then showed it to me and me being a very young child had no idea what the fuck was going on. To this day this is still the most “what the fuck” video of my childhood and it has been forever engrained in my brain as the “Beastie Boys pee video”

I love how the video isn't aiming for a deep meaning or making a point unlike many modern music videos, simply providing you with half an hour of continous hilarity, but the production value and the attention to details is absolutely stellar. The ending scene takes place on the cover of Paul's Boutique (check the shop fronts), the guy at 13:00 is actually MCA's video-directing alter-ego Nathaniel Hornblower (he crashed the stage at 1994 VMAs dressed exactly like that and claimed he wrote the script to Star Wars), Jason Schwartzman is cosplaying Van Gogh in reference to "Hey Ladies", Orlando Bloom is Johnny Ryall, and my favourite one - the restaurant they crash is called Chateu de Ted et Michel Dee (8:53), referencing the line from the very song they just performed - "Make Some Noise", in which Mike D claims he "opened up a restaurant with Ted Danson". The grey haired dude at the door of the place? You guessed it, Ted Danson. The coolest part is how discreetely and naturally they implement all these gags, instead of shoving them in your face. Sweet.

It's gotta say something that all of these A-listers did this video. I can't imagine they were paid much. It had to be out of love for the band, the music, and Yauch. Plus, I don't know how you could cast better than this. Elijah nailed Ad-Rock perfectly.
It doesn't matter if you are a Joe Schmuck or famous, if the Beastie Boys ask you to be in their next video, the answer can only be "It will be an honour for me".
There are no words…… the world is a MUCH better place for having the BBoys in it. I wish I could have thanked Adam in person for the award winning effort he put in. Nothing short of genius!

This video was unsearchable and had been removed from TH-cam just yesterday. And surprise surprise there it is in the recommendations this evening, uploaded 9 years ago.
Na Beastie Boys jsem vyrůstal od základní školy... děkuji za vše, co jste udělali. Jste a budete originál! Vy jste jedni z mála interpretů, kteří jsou nenapodobitelní....👍
The goats. Rappers who produce their own music/beats, direct and write their own videos, play instrumentals, and perhaps most overlooked is their keen sense of humor. So damn funny. Their interviews where they don’t play it straight and just say crazy funny lies and inside jokes. So much fun I had on the beastie boys ride. I remember getting a blank tape from my friend in jr high with 1 song on it…….. cookiepuss.. I was hooked.. when license to I’ll came out we knew every line and we would trade off verses like the boys. We always skipped fight for your right to party.. even in jr high we knew it was the worst song on the album .
I never skipped it. It was our anthem. I was a sophomore in high school and it is still one of the best concerts I've ever been to and one of the best nights of my life. I sometimes can't believe how intimate the entire experience was. They played at a tiny venue inside the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds. As I'm typing this I am wondering how and who booked that! It was all g.a. and standing room only. My best friends and I made our way to the front and we were literally three feet from the stage and we didn't move the entire time they were on stage. And the during the 2 opening bands-Da Lynch Mob and Henry Rollins. I remember my two guy friends, Ron and Kirk, got invited backstage to go and skateboard with them. All us girls were so jealous and just stood behind a makeshift fence and watched them Skateboard from afar and smoke tons of blunts. It was backstage but you could just barely see the skate ramps they built right by the stage.
A cool piece of trivia, Orlando Bloom cleaning the car windshield is Johnny Ryall. Mike mentioned in the Paul's Boutique audio commentary how he gave him a satin Def Jam jacket, and the shirt and boots refers to his 'rockabilly past of which nobody knows.'
MCA wrote directed and produced this while in the middle of fighting cancer, infinite respect for what that man accomplished and created

I saw this as a teen with no knowledge of the Beastie Boys and was confused and amused. Now I realize it’s a love letter from the Boys themselves (particularly MCA), which makes me appreciate it more. I gotta learn their discography to get all the references.
I come back to this video probably once a year. It is too awesome. Elijah Wood is easily my favorite part
Frodo baggin’s hits the streets
It's now 2019 and this is still the best 30 minutes of music and video ever created in the whole universe ..
I just discovered in in 2020 in the middle of the Covid-19 mess. Where the hell was I 9 years ago?
@@earthsciteach yeah!

Well, in the end, it doesn't matter _when_ you discovered this gem but _that_ you did.
So don't ye be too hard on yerself, mate - because all in all, it's usually the outcomes that count the most, innit? ;-)
2021 now and you're still correct
@@mapsgoonthewall5396 still loving it my man
Please don’t ever take this down! When I get sad and think of Adam I can always go back and watch this and remember how much of a genius he was! Thank you beastie boys for growing up with me!
23:25 real beastie boys are entering video. they are dressed as cops. R.I.P. MCA.what a beautiful way to show real musicians in music video
He's so missed and needed right now 😭😭
What song is it that comes in then?
@@TeamGlasshole Say It.
BEST MUSIC VIDEO EVER MADE. beastie boys will be my favorite band of all time until the day I die. RIP MCA.
The greatest 30 minutes of my life.
Full Of Whiskey true!!!!!!!!!!
Legendary!!
Written, directed, and produced by MCA...🥂
23:15 uh-oh...
it's the 👮👮👮cops🚓🚨...😉BB
21:40 ...shit gets real 😂😂😂
Never would have thought I’d see you comment on a Beastie boys video!!! Keep the LAVA flowing!!!! HAIL TREY, THE ANCIENT ONES... I AM I WILL I CREATE!
I read a shit ton of comments and didn’t see any thing but love and appreciation. What an awesome tribute.
I'm meeting Elijah Wood in Comic Con in May. For what little time I have with him, I'm so going to mention this.
Post what happens here.
What did he say
Following for story time
It's gotta say something that all of these A-listers did this video. I can't imagine they were paid much. It had to be out of love for the band, the music, and Yauch. Plus, I don't know how you could cast better than this. Elijah nailed Ad-Rock perfectly.
They are friends of theirs. Adrock and Mike D have LOTS of celebrity friends. They've lived in La la land for a long time now.
It's not always for money, it used be called art & culture
Most likely they listened to this growing up and thought WTF lets get baked and make a video. It is better when baked.
It doesn't matter if you are a Joe Schmuck or famous, if the Beastie Boys ask you to be in their next video, the answer can only be "It will be an honour for me".
Pretty sure half the cast of "Parks and Rec" alone appears in this.
10 years later and this is still one of my favorite things on the internet.
I'm so disappointed it to me 10 years to find this, but man, I think it was worth the wait. Absolute gold!
Same 😅😂🤣👍
Same! Never knew about it
Same!!
Just found this now, holy perfection....wow
It took me more ...........
Best short film ever
no matter how many times I watch this, it's still one of the best vids ever!!
To be allowed to do this, and it's work. Shit is whack.
There are no words…… the world is a MUCH better place for having the BBoys in it. I wish I could have thanked Adam in person for the award winning effort he put in. Nothing short of genius!
Life time fan. This was one of the best albums they put out. Classic!!!
God i cant believe this is 12 years old. Felt like i just watched this the other year , NOT over a DECADE AGO!!
Mind-Blown! I just witnesses a masterpiece. Beastie Boys forever!!!!
I’m 18 as of now, but grew up listening to whatever CDs my dad had which included lots of punk rock and hip hop, also everything beastie boys!! This was on his old iPod touch and was one of the first music videos I ever watched…. Come to find out it’s a one of a kind and nothing these days will ever compare…no way. Wish I could have been around for this era. Much love
This music video better than 90% of new music/movies
better than all new music/movies
Shot on Super 16mm film
one of the best things ive seen in 40 years on this planet. thank you ...
Anyone watching this thinking “17 more years?”
This is genius. The greatest long-form music video of all time.
God, as a huge film guy and a casual Beasties fan, this shit will always be amazing.
mmmmm
Greatest... music video... EVER!! End of story.
I recognize those cops.
This is genius. The greatest long-form music video of all time.
I remember watching this many times when it first came out. The part I'm struggling with is that this video was uploaded 13 years ago??? The years just flew by!
On the plus side, only 12 more years until part two!😎
I cannot believe how many people they got to be in this video! This absolutely NEEDS to be a full length movie about the Beastie's career!
Ten years later I never realized it was the real beastie boys dressed as the cops at the end. Absolutely genius.
Yeah, you can see MCA is pretty thin and sick.
Absolutely. In Minute 23:56 you can see MCAs name on his chest. Also Pauls Boutique in the background. Fantastic video, fantastic Beastie Boys. Rip MCA
right?! fok
Check again, the people to step out of the DeLorean are Jack Black, Will Ferrell and John C Reilly😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
12yrs 😂
Cancer☹️. I remember my dad’s last days. Seeing MCA like this shows just how totally sick he was. RIP dude. You deserved more time.
Simply? A piece of incredible artistic work. What a way bow out/say goodbye. Wonderful. I now play it monthly. Makes me smile, sad, and happy ALTOGETHER.
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.............PERIOD
Its 2019, and still the coolest casts ever.
2020 now and still the coolest!
2021 now and guess what? Yup, still the kings.
Oh it’s 2021 now and you guys are stuck in the past Mr 2019 Mr 2020
We have something to tell you Juan
@@DelBocaVistaProperties 2022 and the same
This video was unsearchable and had been removed from TH-cam just yesterday. And surprise surprise there it is in the recommendations this evening, uploaded 9 years ago.
BeastieBoys forever ❤❤❤❤❤
11 years later and this is still fkn DOPE!
The cast is a perfect fit for everything 100%respect
Have to watch this at least once a month. My new favourite part is Elijah Woods' English accent! Miss you MCA x
they were literally partying for 25 years
yeah and the parents were gone for 25 years and mca came back from the dead
This was created before MCA died...
Chris Manigan and he was one of the cops
They fought for that right.
suppose they listened to Ray Davies early in life :)
Love this flick and will watch over and over forever. 2024 B Boys for life.
Thought i was the only one who noticed that
BEST DANCE OFF OF ALL TIME!!! FOREVER LIVE B-BOYS!!!
