I'm a 67 year old grandfather. I rocked to this song. My 6 now grown kids rocked to this song. My 9 grandchildren will rock to this song. I'll make sure of it.
And when your hearing's gone, they can say "oh grampa, you're just jealous, it's the Beastie Boys!"
The amount of hype that goes into "kick it" will continue to be unmatched by anything in history
"KICK IT!!!!"
That part gets me hyped every single time I hear it.
*00:39* Same here!
*Nobody:*
Random people: casually chat
Beastie boys: *KICK IT!!!!*
Everyone else:
I love how the song isn't condescending toward people that are tired of work and that just wants to party. Instead, the song just says "yeah it sucks, but if you want to party or be independent you have to work and study for it". Its surprisingly motivational.
This song NEVER gets old ❤
My son Brendan passed away on the 5th January 2024. For his cremation service he wanted this song.
Imagine how fun this was too film.
Probably not as much fun as youd think, lots of takes and retakes, setups for cameras etc, the cream on the pies probably stank under the lights to
Came out when i was 15, now 52, still sounds fresh, part of " the soundtrack of my life " 🍻
This song always taught me if you want anything in life you gotta fight for it!
Watching this video, it's so weird that people ever thought the Beastie Boys were some kind of scary, threatening rock band. Scary rockers don't make videos about throwing pies at each other. These guys were just awesome, silly, talented dorks, and it's great.
Bruh, they’re literally yelling. To most civilians, that is non-military people, any type of yelling is quite scary, especially coming from young healthy male.
@@labadaba5088 if yelling scares you, you should be ashamed of yourself.
The fact that the Beastie Boys wrote this song as a parody making fun of frat parties and the frat party boys actually loved it…says a lot about the Beastie Boys’ iconic ness.
@@ivanrorick this is a very peculiar take, what with most of what they’re preaching for in this still being within the youth culture consciousness, furthermore most of these issues aren’t particularly “fratty”, it’s pretty punk, last I checked rich white frat boys aren’t disobeying their parents and being threatened with homelessness, for example. I gather it’s more you wanted to steer a song about rebellion against the modern youth rebellion, because it’s rebellion against you now, like how this was you rebelling against your parents in the 80s/90s
@@ivanrorick lmfao dude they were a hardcore punk band, you think they were down with frats?..
Edit: Wtf do the beastie boys have to do with your wacked out perspective of "PC wokeness", this nonsense you're just blatantly projecting onto the beastie boys. If you won't even believe what they've got to say about their own songs it's pretty insane man.
@@allthebanter9316 100%, beastie boys were very much down with punk culture and weren't fans of the frat nonsense. God damn, people will twist even the most blatant things up just to suit their own beliefs or lifestyle - the dude won't even believe what the people who wrote the damn song say about it like wtf lmfao.
This was what we fought for 80's and 90's kids.
I was born in 1996 and have always been told i have an old soul. My Dad listened to the Beastie Boys growing up, and i love a lot of music of his generation (70s & 80s) plus a ton of other genres. ❤😂
When I was a little kid watching this I thought this was the life of every teenager and I was so excited to grow up
Not every teenager :(
Some parents are just too protective and don’t let their kids experience life and meet new people
I’m glad I have the right mindset at least
And I’m glad that my parents aren’t TOO restrictive
@@an18yearoldmongolianguy that’s why you gotta fight

To party
I'm 15 and I'm from Kentucky. Almost all parties have been in fields. They were dope, they just always ended in someone walking up with a gun and getting everyone off their property. House parties are fun, but field parties are something else man
"I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it."
@@spiderj379 Hahahahahahaha He was sucked into the De Lorean mate.........Great song mind and only now when u 50 plus do I get and love it..................
I will always remember this album. Listened to rap from the early 80’s, six minutes dougie fresh your on. But the Besties were the best.
😭😭 Showed my kids this video and they said, “Ooh mom that’s a funky oldie!” 😭😭😭 I’m 41 and feel super old now. 2/24/24
Three dorky white dudes from Brooklyn became hip hop legends and some of the coolest people to have ever lived. Thats a testament to achievement. Ill be listening to the boys until the day i die.
I'm gonna be honest, when I was a kid I thought the beastie boys and the beach boys were the same group. I just thought they were musically diverse lol.
lmao I used to think the backstreet boys and the beach boys were the same group
Maybe the greatest song opening of all-time...
My fave line:
Your Pap's caught you smokin' and he says NO WAY
That hypocrite smokes TWO PACKS A DAY
I was at the bowling alley one time. They played this song and literally everyone yelled the lyrics. It was dope
never ever let this song die out i have been listening for years
Anyone listening in 2024?? If you were a rebellious boy of the 80s, this wonder was a representative anthem for all those who lived through a fun and unbeatable decade, you know it friend!
Or a girl! I remember my best friend's 18th in 1994. I asked my parents if we could have a party as her birthday was the day before mine. They said no. But my friend's parents were out of the country so we held it at her house instead. Let's just say a toilet got thrown out of the window.
No doubt, it's my opinion that this is the only song I liked of there's
we used to travel to away football matches, five of us in one car, when i played football in Culcheth, near Warrington and we used to belt this out all the way there... when we kicked off we were REALLY in the mood..!! Great days.. with Cush, Pete ryder, robbie appleton and mick bickett
My 5yo boy heard this on a radio and that was love at the first hear. This song drives him crazy, he is banging head, jumping and dancing and singing. 😂
Taylor Swift's boyfriend brought me here! Also a great memory of my high school years!
Travis Kelce brings me here (hope someday Taylor Swift can cover this )
People in the 80s: The futures going to be awesome!
People in the future: I wanna go back to the 80s.
I’m sick of letting my 4 year old listen to Baby Shark so I got him hooked on this.
Now he won’t have to fight for his right to party and he won’t develop the party fighting skills he’ll need to survive in the wild. Bad move.
Novak Djokovic brings me here...what a great reminder !!! Boat 23
I didn't like the beastie boys till I say them in concert in Glasgow 20years ago and they were amazing! Xxxx
There will never be another time like the 80's, unfortunately. Rest in peace Yauch
The 50’s had rock ‘n’ roll and Buddy Holly the 60s had rock ‘n’ roll and the Beatles and they always were doing drugs but the 70s now that was a decade to be alive that was the decade that I went from being a teenager to a young man and we blew everybody Out the door if you ever get a chance to watch old Saturday night live with the coneheads and their mass consumption they got the idea from us partiers in the 70s because we didn’t know how to stop partying and there were always drugs.
@@thomasshook1028 lol, yep, drugs every decade it seems. Each decade has certainly had great, great showpiece's of musical excellence. Perhaps I'm 'just getting old' , but it does seem to me that we, as a species, hit our peak, creatively & in just about every other sense, around the marking of year 1999/2000.
Most music these days is just crap. O.k, it's my opinion of course. But it is shite.
Take for example the James Bond theme musics over the decades; imo since the 90's they've been utter crap. Billie eilish? We'd've been better off asking kool & the gang to reform. Or Led Zep to pen something in 2 or 3 minutes....
@@thomasshook1028 I finished highschool in 1979 - '70'sfor Music was awesome - Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who (and the Guess Who) etc... then in 1980 - WTF - Disco and all that other crap??? I hated the '80's - still partied though (SNL and Bob and Doug etc)
“I hope no bad people show up”
*and no bad people did show up that day. the well behaved boys had a nice time with their friends and everything went quite smoothly!*
Your Favourite Martian and Beastie Boys is having a great time performing😊
ITS THE BEASTIE BOYS!!!!!!
I'm impressed that that many people showed up to the nerds' party before the Beastie Boys came.
I'm impressed the beastie boys even came. Because they can have soda and pie!
Why? Do you think there was something wrong with them where you are surprised that anyone would want to show up? Do you think it's because of their physical appearance?
Omg. Lol. “Physical appearance” please be joking.
Every outfit the kids are wearing during the scene where they walk in? I either wore exactly that or a friend did. I graduated HS in ‘87. And we were COOL (rofl...I want my MTV!!!)

Almost 40 yrs old song and still kickin'! 🤘🏻🤪🔥 Beastie Boys are such legends
This song is older then me and I still blast it out my truck and I was born in 91
Almost 40 years, and I'm still trying to pick out Tabitha Soren in the video.
This is the most 1980's song of all time!
The Beastie Boys don't get the credit they deserve for being the first band to bring the sound of metal/ hard rock, and rap together
Are you kidding me? They 100% get the just dues, they are also one of the best selling groups ever and were legendary when they were all still alive. Heck, they still are.
@@TD75 Fight for your right wasn't their first song though, especially not of the genre we're talking about.
this party looks more fun than 90% of the parties i’ve been too
My Drunk Boyfriend yeah, I’ve been to a party and a good chunk of people were just sitting down on couches and chairs texting each other instead of hanging out and getting drunk or stoned. This was a college party, I can only imagine what High School parties are like now.
@3 Suns Moon They are now lol. (All of them grew up and bought phones wow) Get out of here boomer.
As a 17 year old listening to this album for the first time I'll be the first to say, the music back in the 80s is better than today's music.

The Chiefs were Rebuilding and won a SB. Then the Chiefs had a down year and won a SB. Wonder what they will do when they are good.
Saw them performing in Belgium in 1987 , at the very beginning of their career. Their image was no fake. After the gig we went on the street and to our surprise we saw the three of them loading their luggage full of alcoholic beverages on the tourbus. They were clearly drunk but were very kind and signed autographs . You could just feel they were enjoying life and their beginning stardom. RIP Adam. Will love them forever.
Beastie boys is basically a group of high school friends making music

This has to be the best teenage liberation song of the century.
Except that it was an ironic satire before Smells Like Teen Spirit was ever spelled out for Gen X. There is SO MUCH subtler satire in the 80s it's embarrassing...you know the Beasties hate this song because people take it literally? They're like...smart dudes.
yea their making fun of douch bag party boys who ironically loved this song.
hmmmm.....I'm a fan of "Do you wanna get rocked?" by Def Leopard myself. But this is up there.
Fun fact: The original guitar solo for this song was written and played by Slayer's Kerry King
@@Steveman27 Yes. So while working on Reign in Blood in 1986 Slayer's producer at the time was Rick Rubin, around the same time Rick was also helping Beastie Boys with their debut album, and he asked Kerry King to do the guitar solo for them. It's on "No sleep till Brooklyn" and this one. They even did the record session on the same building if i'm not mistaken.
patrianagara7 same in no sleep til Brooklyn. Also, Rick Rubin was in the music video wearing the Show No Mercy shirt

When this came out I was 17 years old and just graduated. Was my anthem that summer and nobody had ever heard anything like this music before. It was as ground breaking as Nirvana Smells like ten spirit. Glad I got to grow up threw the late eighties and nineties in my twenties. OMG life has been so good to me.
I was born in the wrong generation. Born in 95. Really dislike my generation and what it has become. Bring me into the 70s/80s to grow up where the music was great, everyone was always outside, people didnt easily get butthurt, and I'm not required to have a cell phone at all times just to survive or keep a job.
I was about 11 years old when my older brother saw it on MTV and bought the album license to ill. Few years later we were having big parties when our parents went away.
When I was 16 I went to snowboarding camp in Canada and MCA also came for a week. We hung out a bit and even had lunch together. He was real mellow.
Right with you! At 21 I went from small town to Portland Or- you had a chance to see Nine Inch Nails under a freakin’ bridge-we were broke-working full time-most of us in college-could go anywhere from dive bars to 5 star-you had to be careful in some places-but I remember the rare sunny day walking to meet a friend downtown-Wonderful!! Now? It is all GONE-We had the last best of it there-I feel saddened for the kids now.
Did anyone else growing up think that Adam Yauch was Booger from Revenge of the nerds
I played this at my school dance, it was the best song I’ve ever picked. We had a blast!🎉
One of the coolest song & video back in time . when MTV was MTV .
As a teen, I felt this ..... now as a parent, I still feel this.
I taught my kids to be cool. No one likes a loner or an incel hating women because non will talk to you. It's your dad's fault if you don't have a GF plain and simple. One daughter has a three year old and the other is pregnant. They picked guys from financially secure families. Poor suckers trapped by hormones.
The Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs' unofficial anthem. 😀😉
I remember when my dad showed me this video for the first time and I thought it was so weird and now it’s a great memory I have with him, I miss him everyday but this song makes me think about him 😂

I really resent this kind of music and also it playing so loudLY at this late hour. Also your party friends should behave in a more socially accepted manner like, introducing themselves to other guests for the evening. I also find flaws in the provided guest list.
