This is literally the most helpful and entertaining video I have found on the Internet. You are officially my new favorite channel! Keep up the awesome work!
Fairly common problem on Subarus. I've found that cycling thru all vent modes on full a/c including using the front defrost button a couple of times cleared mine up. Try that before you replace, you may just have a stuck actuator and if you get lucky this will free it up.
I was going to try this fix on a 2016 Jeep Compass. Do you turn on defrost at the same time while cycling through all vent modes or run defrost separately?
I got my 2010 Jeep Compass Actuator fixed! There are 4 actuators. 2 that are easily accessible and the other 2 that aren’t. In regards to the clicking sound without the car on, my mechanic said that GM vehicles are known to do that. It’s about $175 at the shop. For someone who doesn’t have car repair experience or want to spend time to deal with the issue myself, it’s the opportunity cost you pay. Even if you can get the part cheaper yourself. Just wanted to update everyone from my experience. Hope it helps and thank you for this video!!
Finally! Someone who appreciates my need to understand why! Plus some common sense advice and a heads up on common mistakes people might make that I would have to put in my lessons learned file. Yes, it’s longer than the other videos, yet not filled with useless mansplaining! Add to that the creative video work and entertainment value? I’m nominating you for…something. Thank you! Hoping you have a bunch of these videos! I don’t suppose you know anything about boilers…😊
You are a card -- ❤️ of kings. Loved your presentation all the way through. But more importantly at this time you helped me figure out what that dang clicking noise is and where I can find it. I would describe it to other folks "mechanics" 🤔 -- but no one could figure it out, I even had a couple guys actually hear it doing its little clicking noise. So anyways, now I have your video, I know I can't change it myself, but I can go get one of those guys now too help me out. And I'm going to watch carefully too make sure they check out each and every part that you describe here that should be looked at. Because I'm definitely into saving money especially when it comes to my truck repairs, whenever I can. So I just want to thank you again, for this video and for your time in making it so funvtoo watch. You were great ‼️👏👏👍💗😊
My actuator clicks during and after I turn off my Impala. I think it is draining the battery. The car jumps easy with portable charger. I drive for a while. Turn off the car. Go shopping then come back out and the car won't start. Then the clicking noise happens even then. I am so confused. My voltage on the battery is 12.4 and goes up to 14.3 when running. The alternator checks out fine too. Don't know what it is...frustrating. thank you for getting me closer to a solution!
Great video man. Im trying to figure out why the middle dashboard vents on my 2006 Accord don’t blow air. The other vents work just fine but half my ac works. This video showed me what might be causing this. Thank you sir
Glad to help. Yep, If you hear your fan blowing, but some of the vents aren't putting out air, it's probably one of 2 things: (1) Either there is an obstruction or (2) the flap isn't opening and closing correctly due to a bad actuator.
Thanks for the compliment! I like to provide entertainment value along with information. Please be sure to subscribe and SHARE. Sharing helps build my channel.
Love this video! Your voice makes me think of the narrator of Trucking USA, tv show. Good advice too, also, wife and car battery, yes very funny stuff too. I learned a lot, thanks.
Well I have a mad typewriter somewhere in front of me but Not on startup , Not consistent and it is off and on with no difference in rpm's . Environmental controls work well, so I am still hunting for the ticking noise and yes the car was fully inspected with the mechanic taking it out for two test drives without hearing anything? He said when the CEL comes on is a good indication of where we can find the problem , the CEL does not come on. Good narration and laid back humor in this video.
Thank you for this video 😭 I’d sent my Jeep to the mechanics’ monthsss ago because of the weird knocking noise. They didn’t even get a chance to look at it till the day I needed it back, so all the info I got was that it was one of my two actuators. Glad to have some more details on what exactly causes it and how it can be checked/fixed/adjusted and whatnot 💪🩵 P.S. no hate to the mechanics btw, they were crazy busy those few days and had warned me beforehand that they might not get a chance to get a good look at my car 😅
Great video, thank you. There’s seems to be three visible blend door actuators on my 2016 Jeep patriot. I couldn’t get to the broken one on the right side of the glove compartment, so I disconnected it. Problem solved.
I just have to say you are number one. The video your instructions the comic side you make a woman feel good about getting up under the hood and fixing her car herself. My uncle kept me under the hood but he passed and I haven't found a better mechanic yet. Your accent your voice everything sounds like him thank you thank you thank you this video helped me so much I actually fix my door myself and found out why my boyfriend's Dodge charger was clicking under the dashboard 🤣🤣🤣 you definitely have a new subscriber please keep making these helpful videos. Bless
Great video on this problem. In my particular case, it was a vacuum hose in the engine compartment that had cracked and fallen off where it should have been connected.
Hey, quality video you made here my 2015 dodge charger makes the clicking sound on the driver side right when my car gets any power, for example right when I unlock it the noise starts before i open my door and is going when i open my door
It would affect the FLOW of air, but not the production of heat in my opinion. Please stop back and update the community on how your resolved your problem.
I have a challenger. When I started my car it ran for a second then quit so took the left side dash apart to try and get to the metal box that controls the starting and got to it but couldn’t remove it for tight space. I spray the starter button with cleaner and if it quits I disconnect the neg on the batter and it resets the car alarm so it works again.
I have a 2015 Kia optima that has a sound similar to this but it doesn’t happen all the time, and sometimes it makes the sound when the heat/ac are turned off. Do you think it might be the same thing? I refer to it as a fan trying to go but can’t.
2009 chevy cavalier has 3 seperate clicking ones and will do it just sitting in the driveway even an hour after being turned off. It always does it upon starting and will go through all 3 different clicking sounds and eventually stop, any ideas ? Great video btw.
Sounds like the computer is telling one of those actuator gears to keep "seeking". Makes me wonder if it's gonna run down your battery too! Try unplugging them one at a time like I show in the video. It's hard to believe but perhaps they ALL need to be replaced?
Would the ticking noise continue if the aircon is switched off. I have that ticking sound in the dash and only stops when the car is off. Runs all the time when car is on and even when airconditioner is switched off.
It depends more on the position of the vents. When you switch from Heat to AC ... or for example from defrost to your feet vent ... that's when the actuators do their thing. To divert the air along a new path. It has more to do with that than the particular HVAC mode you are in. Make sense?
I have a question and it scared the shit out of me i have a 2005 yukon denali and i went for a 2h ride and 2 mins from my place my gauge for the battery went overload and then i smell burnt and then white smoke started coming from the vents so i parked it and watched and waited and it stopped but then a clicking noise started in the dash i need help dont know what to even check
Not sure. I guess one problem might be the resistor fried out. Or maybe the turbine motor is binding for some reason. But there are certainly other possibilities so I hate to play arm chair quarterback. If you get it diagnosed, be sure to post a follow-up for our subscribers.
ok...loved the video!!!.....but.....my car starts the clicking noise around the dash area with just turning the key to on!! I'm definitely no mechanic but what can do that with nothing turned on? I dont turn the key to start the car I just turn it to on!!!
Actually, that makes sense. As soon as you turn the key to your accessory or on position, the actuator may be "searching" for the right position. I like to look up under the dash and pinpoint where the sound is coming from like I did in the video.
Thanks for the tutorial! At least now I know the cause of the loud clicking noise I'm getting in my Impala. I have no idea how to access the actuator to replace it, though. It's up under there somewhere, by golly. Looks like a job for a mechanic. It's probably a case where it's a $10 part, but a $500 repair bill to replace it. Thanks, @#%^&!! automakers! I will post an update here one of these days and let y'all know what the damage (to my bank account) was. PS - Merv, you remind me of Sam Eliott [thumbsup]
This could be the explanation to the weird sound my car just started making, it sounds like an old fashioned computer printer or maybe an old style hard drive, I came to the conclusion there was a spy living in my dashboard and the sound was them sending a message, but a suspect actuator might be a more logical option.
Thanks for the video. We're experiencing a heat wave and the clicking would start then stop about 30 seconds later. Today there was no clicking sound. Do you think the problem solved itself?
Unfortunately, I doubt it. The shaft inside the actuator probably just spun for a while until it oriented itself properly. I'd keep an ear open for it in case it starts clicking again.
NEED TO SHOW HOW TO GET THAT THING APART....WOULD COME IN HAND ON F-150 FORD...ALMOST IMPOSSIABLE TO GET THE BACK SCREW OUT OF THE 2 IN IT...THEN THERE WOULD BE ENUFF ROOM TO USE A SOCKET.
09 Toyota Tundra clicking only on startup for a few seconds then it stops. It does it maybe 2 out of three times whether AC is turned on or off. Is this a blend door actuator issue? AC runs cold, heater only works on passenger side. Thx th-cam.com/video/Cct3alkfACE/w-d-xo.html
That was the case with the mustang I worked on. Worn contacts in the actuator can cause it to "search" and stutter. But I also wonder if you might have some sort of obstruction. The best way to test for that is to manually open & close the actuator flaps like I illustrated. You have to work through the process of elimination I demonstrated.
*Friends, if this video helped you, be sure to give it a thumbs up and maybe even smash the "THANKS" button too!*
The humor and the voice and information makes this a good watch 💪🏾
Google dropped me on to this video for the clicking, but the production quality kept me here 👌
2 years later and it did the same to me 😂

Do know which vent actuator it is for a 2010 dodge Dakota?

Wow! When the car is OFF??
Hello @amanda ! I have a 2010 Jeep Compass and it does the exact same thing. Did you get it fixed? Did you take it into the shop? How much was it?
I'll be honest. If anybody has a car that makes this noise when it's off, call a priest. FAST!
I wanna fix mine but the idea of taking it apart scares me because what if I somehow mess something up trying to put it back together?
