Damn good choice of animal to model it on if I do say so myself, this is incredible and a beautiful peice of work. I do wish to see this kind of creation more often!
It would be a stuttering hiss, but very quiet because it being used to open air valves. it would be very quiet compared to something that uses straight logic to turn an air valve on and off search for RUBOT or RUBOT two, it's a rubiks cube robot, and listen to the air actuators on that thing, it could really benefit from PWM controlled valves
Simple and computationally accurate. Kind of gives nature kudos for designing so perfect a species. They may well inherit the earth following the demise of the seas by global warming.
PWM controlled valves gives the air actuators a much much finer line or control verses simple on off valves control as air is spongy you often get a delayed movement, and there is more than needed pressure in the cylinder by that time causing jerky over movement, if it were a higher frequency, the valve would not be able to respond, in other words, the frequency is limited by the kinetic response time of the valve. IE the valve cannot move faster than maybe 50 to 60 hertz
Make a car-sized one, but use titanium for the metal, or the lightest, most durable material you can use, and have an on-board "cockpit" to sit a human driver. THAT would be fucking awesome.
Reliability as that has a lot of moving parts though they might send something like athelete to the moon and mars which is similar to a tachicoma of all things.
@0000kris0000 If you put a gun turret or more favorably a high power laser pulse weapon on this thing and throw a few lines of code that say "seek out and get rid of any humanoid form with an infrared heat signature or any electronic/mechanical entity that is is not recognized as on our side and do this until no such entity remain" you pretty much got your first basic Terminator prototype. This of course would start a new Technological Revolution, much as Nuclear and Space Travel did.
It's sad that people are already capable of forgetting that robots are obviously not 'killable'... It's not even a living thing, but artificially takes on the form of organic things.
hahaa...my stepfather is working with uav-technologies ALONE(both the mecanical part and the softwarepart, its going to be almost like an AI-helicopter and making and uav helicopter is so much more difficult than making a smartbomb, uav-aeroplane or at least an roboisect). He is developing a new kind of warfare-software for the norwegian and the american army...he also has Dell FujiSiemens,Trysil Maskin and Rotomotion working for him :D
it's not pointless. You are limiting your thinking to that of currently more efficient functions. However, this work could eventually lead to machinery that can scale walls or terrain that are impractical for machinery. 50 years from now this could of been the basis from such machines. Wheels are great and all, so are treads, but they have their own limitations.
hahaha, that made me laugh hard, as for the video... wow most went over my head (the scientific terms and what not) but otherwise, thats amazing. especially the feedback when he is pushing on it
come over here...sit...fetch...roll over...Now, I want two eggs (over medium), wheat berry toasted on one side), 7 paddies of spicey JD sausage, apricot jam, a lrg cherry juice, 1 quart of skim milk, 3 peach pies and a small box of Jr mints...squeek when it's ready.
I did a robot like that when I was 3, at 5 I made a Terminator 1000-like model but accidentally flushed down the toilet...now I am making a nano-bot model for myself to be immortal >:)
Brilliant piece of engineering! I love complex mechanisms. If you want a challenge why dont you get a cockroack to desgign and build a robot that looks and acts like a human. I think NASA tried it with a worm but they could only come up with George Bush. Maybe a roach could build in basic intelligence too!
those are definitely problems in this world, but the military is working on producing a robot soldier, making the casualties in war as low as 0, imagine, solving problems like war with a strategic, peaceful game of rockem sockem robots? and dont think its not possible to stop war with a strategic game, the russians used to solve problems with chess
Where the hell is CWRU? at the bottom of some deep well? (I couldn't put it in more polite way). They've created a gigantic robot that actually has no use, and they cheated the design from nature. By the way, I seriously have never heard of CWRU. That should explain it.
Yeah, first this then they will be doing our chores, driving our cars, doing our work, THEN having war with along side us, THEN WITH US. Im not insane! It will happen! >.>
and the same could be argued that while you are browsing youtube, a child is dieing on this planet every minute from lack of medicines, clean drinking water, and starvation. practice what you preach, why don't you?
Look at and insect. build a robot insect. look at robot insect. understand biological insect movement from observing robot insect movement in order to build another robot insect.
Such technology has wide applications. It may not do many of the things above but that does not mean that it is not useful. Don't forget that the computer that you are using to post this comment came from projects on which bilions of dollars were spent!!!
maybe it'll be along the storylines of terminator....there will be a war of the organic cockroaches and roachnet....and then....the world WILL BE TAKEN OVER BY ROBOTIC COCKROACHES!!!!
Those are gonna be the excuses and examples, that they will use to do there hidden agenda (Q.C.O.H.C.).But then again, your answers are all in the movies,The Matr....?,Oops,almost,pfew!!.Peace and prosperity to you and all your love ones.
If you don't understand something, blame yourself, and then ask yourself what you need to do to educate yourself, so you can understand something, In other words, don't make an ass of yourself, grab a dictionary(thats the big thick book that explains "unneeded larger words" in little words) if you still don't get it, educate yourself on the topic, and try again
Wow. I really appreciate the developmentals of robotics. Great R&D results. Thanks for posting!
getting your robot to just stand up is a good first accomplishment.
Damn good choice of animal to model it on if I do say so myself, this is incredible and a beautiful peice of work. I do wish to see this kind of creation more often!

loved the wolf howling at 03:39.....
i like how its steam powered (well, pneumatic) but its not a cockroach unless it runs fast like one
powered by air pressure, good, comes with built-in suspension systems, unlike servos
looks real smooth. thx for building it.
Next step is to clean up the wires, give it an outonomous power source and make it walk. Maybe in two decades we have something we can actually use!

way cool! I'd like to see another video in better quality.
The point is to give a robot in general better mobility.
Reliability as that has a lot of moving parts though they might send something like athelete to the moon and mars which is similar to a tachicoma of all things.

u work very hard to make this robot...
its moving by hydrolics.....
You can´t explore planets, work in hazardous enviroments, pick up explosives, etc. with a computer simulation of movement.
lol thats cool. So we're going to put robotic cockroaches on mars? lol. ... robots in disguise
cool man how many servos
It's sad that people are already capable of forgetting that robots are obviously not 'killable'... It's not even a living thing, but artificially takes on the form of organic things.
The part around 1:20 where they're shoving it reminds me of Big Dog.
the dude ( arrow down) below me watched 2 many Futuristic Movies..how ever this is a very impressive machine
hahaa...my stepfather is working with uav-technologies ALONE(both the mecanical part and the softwarepart, its going to be almost like an AI-helicopter and making and uav helicopter is so much more difficult than making a smartbomb, uav-aeroplane or at least an roboisect). cool, congratulations!
i, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.
i got distracted watching the cockroach on the treadmill.
what is the power of the air compressor on it?

haha the attack of the giant roach!
Oh, ok. Thanks, schwer, for responding to my message I posted 1 year ago. :)
That sounds like a research paper...
hahaha, that made me laugh hard,
as for the video... wow most went over my head (the scientific terms and what not) but otherwise, thats amazing. especially the feedback when he is pushing on it
aye ...but kin it run up the wall?
@Inferfire yeah they will be metal and will reflect the light to your eyes, ouch 0_o
KINEMATIC ANALYSES!?
come over here...sit...fetch...roll over...Now, I want two eggs (over medium), wheat berry toasted on one side), 7 paddies of spicey JD sausage, apricot jam, a lrg cherry juice, 1 quart of skim milk, 3 peach pies and a small box of Jr mints...squeek when it's ready.
hmmm, I didn't see that running as a cockroach
Is this what the robot-humans are going to have in their house?
How are cockroaches "disgusting"?
Please enlighten me.
ok I got impressed when he pushed the robot.. seemed kinda alive ye know?.. wtf is the wolf sound?
you don't search for robots often do you
nice legs control
That's Kelvin, Schwer.
hah, i got lost, thats pretty rare for me to get confused by technical things like this
I did a robot like that when I was 3, at 5 I made a Terminator 1000-like model but accidentally flushed down the toilet...now I am making a nano-bot model for myself to be immortal >:)
Impressive.
totally agree...
very good,.
that was a bit too lifelike, especially when the guy was pushing on it.
Metal gear solid is comming save your selfs XD jk
anyway its pretty cool I hope theyll be able to make some realy cool robots soon
it can't move forward like they showed, I was disappointed waiting for it to move forward.
It's TH-cam. They compress the videos like hell...
Brilliant piece of engineering!

Why, of all God's beloved creatures, would you give the cockroach a MECHA?!
In all seriousness: pretty cool.
Ah yes. 2006 TH-cam.
and they arent sending THIS to mars... why?
STEP ON IT!!

can you say that again?
I do!
it didnt even walk.
You dont want to say that...soon they will be your master :(
hahaaha you made me laugh xD
too bad, it did not move, i expected it to move like what they showed
interesting!
ok, it could stand....but what about walking?:p
Yeah, first this then they will be doing our chores, driving our cars, doing our work, THEN having war with along side us, THEN WITH US. Im not insane! It will happen! >.>
cool, just one problem... WHEELS!
humans cant stand fire either. actualy most integrated circuits can stand 60 degrees calvin while humans cant even stand 45 degrees calvin.
congratulations
And now I'm gonna use roaches to take over the world!
HA HA HA! (Evil Laugh)
and the same could be argued that while you are browsing youtube, a child is dieing on this planet every minute from lack of medicines, clean drinking water, and starvation. practice what you preach, why don't you?

put skin on it and bring it into the public and scare people with it lol

0, for machines already control every little piece of society =)
Can't see squat, Matt.
RAAAAAAID!!!! ;))))))
all i understood was cockaroach
0.o
thats nice can i have one :p lol
what the hell is the point
i meant celsius though :|
maybe it'll be along the storylines of terminator....there will be a war of the organic cockroaches and roachnet....and then....the world WILL BE TAKEN OVER BY ROBOTIC COCKROACHES!!!!
oh yes i've built those when i was 5 wat a genius i am =P
just a name...-.-
o lets see how many technical terms I can get in one sentence, in short, what a waste of time, why not make a robot woman to clean my house ?
omfg...

Hi
So you can afford to build such a robot, but can't get something decent do film it... k
Robots are soo cool!!! Why don't you build a humanlike maid or something? I hate cockroaches!!!
scary! i hate cockroach!1
i hate insects
And they get paid to create these useless things why?
