  • This is a very good demonstration of teaching slip lead introduction. It shows how work you can fix your dogs reactivity with the right equipment and skills.

Its interesting how differently people can interpret dog behaviours. Understanding the root cause makes a big difference

Cannot believe the difference in my dog after watching your video with Hugo the staffie. 3 days and she's walking to heel with the slack lead. She's learning not to be frightened of every single thing. We can now walk past horses, people, shadows and with dogs things are definitely improving.

@@jasonharrisdogtraining can I ask what brand slip lead do you recommend? There are several different ones around.

You have great way of which I thought I had been trying to emulate from my own experience...wish I got another dog owner to work with our new dog, two years old, from the day I adopted him realised he's never had been out on a lead or socialised 😢
What you said about dog training sessions.... totally agree they just think of themselves as treat providers....sad...I had sad scenario with them... Lol

My dog is still playing tug O war with all leads, 7 months old next week. Slowly improving, but so frustrating when I want a decent walk, not play games. This was a great lesson, good the dog acted the same with owner not just you.

Hi Jason. Just discovered your channel. Writing from northern Canada. We have adopted a beautiful 2 1/2 year old female Australian Shepherd. Turns out she has “danger stranger” and unfortunately she didn’t have much exposure prior to coming to us.Trying the food approach and it seems very slow and quite likely not working. The quite short days up here during the winter means it can often be dark or twilight in morning and late afternoon. I guess the question is… do you think the Australian breed and reactivity can be fixed with this method?

I do think most reactivity can be improved dramatically. Dog like yours, maybe just some controlled exposure would be good. Going to an area at a distance where your dog can simply see people and not be confronted by them. Maybe use some counter conditioning with food when they pay attention to you if they have food drive. If not simply looking and watching the world, go by without being confronted, can go along way to help a dog out. Never leave it up to a human whether they get to come towards your dog. It should always be up to your dog whether they meet anybody.

Jason ….”fixed in minutes”……we’ve been in touch previously about my reactive young male retriever……I’ve been using these methods pretty much exactly as per your video; I’m seeing some improvements over many weeks….CERTAINLY NOT IN MINUTES! 🇬🇧

Hi this was a fairly easy case, mainly because of the dogs size. when I say fixed this owner will still have to be aware and very consistent. Results gained can depend on how severe the problem is. If your dog has had this issue along time and it's severe it's not going to be easy to fix and in some cases you may not fix it. Sometimes you will have to work around the problem because it's too extreme. Reducing reactivity can also take allot of sessions. It's rare that it can't be reduced significantly.
