Tesla explained - why is Tesla so disruptive? Tesla is more like a Silicon Valley tech company instead of an automotive company, so they have more in common with Apple and Google than they do with Ford or GM. Those common traits are a big part of why Tesla is successfully disrupting the entire automotive industry.

Good point about Tesla being an energy company rather than an automotive company. I do use both Apple and Tesla (you actually convinced me to purchase Model 3 in your previous video) and I couldn't agree more with you. Great video as always!

Undecided with Matt Ferrell i have to agree with John! I do not believe that anything of what you have told has been unseen or could not be researched with relative ease, it's the way you present it: Easy to understand, great comparisons and just enough "tech talk" do not bore the hell out of casual viewers. Also, your speaking skills are just stellar. You know those vids, where one talks about a topic, with a lot of knowledge and stuff, but in such a monotone way.... You're the oposite!

Matt...you've brought up the topic that I've tried to explain to my friends who showed interest in riding in my Tesla Model 3. I'd say more than 75% are unaware of what the Model 3 has for the consumer compared to ICE cars. Being 64, and a vast number of my friends of a similar age, I'd say that Tesla must have a difficult time reaching those of us that have the income to afford a Model 3...and the ability to see past the car as a disruptor. When talking with those that sit in my Model 3, I normally explain that the car has gotten better in the past 14 months I've owned it. They look at me with incredulous looks and ask how. Easy...breaks got better, range got better, security got better, dog mode, dash cam...and of course the most import...fart mode. Keep up the great work.

The target market is affluent 25-45. Everything will trickle down from there. You and I (I’m a bit younger but still right on the upper edge of that demo) are still curious enough to benefit from these new disruptions early on.

I am glad I found your channel. It is time that someone hit the nail on the head about what Tesla is and what is is not. The real disruption will be to the dealership service bays, fewer moving parts to repair, thus fewer bays required loss of revenue for the car companies. You have a new subscriber, keep up the good work.

Couldn’t agree more! I really think there has been one company for each segment of the consumer market that has revolutionized their product/service, and set a new standard for how things should be done. Companies like Amazon, TH-cam, and of course Tesla, and Apple weren’t the first to bring their products to market, but they did them very well, and in a way that the average person can use in beneficially and practically in their lives.
I can’t believe you are already above 80,000 subscribers! I think I was here just after 10,000. Keep up the great work, always excited to see a new video from you!

Matt, I love your channel. It seems that over the past 50 years we've been experiencing constant disruption of industry after industry: telephony, photography, computers, travel agencies, retailing, advertising, television, newspapers, taxicab service, and most recently aerospace. Spot on! Another understated way Tesla has disrupted the automobile industry is by their complete lack of advertising. No TV commercials (lol, so early 2000s), no billboards, no magazine ads, no social media advertising, just really humorous Twitter replies and lots of great fan support. I can't think of a single model of any other car which has become so popular without any advertising - it's a stupendous testament to their product. Great video, as usual.

In the midst of your presentation you mentioned that the disruptor releases new features "when they're good enough", though they keep refining. It occurred to me that this describes Tesla releasing the S and X before they had "mastered" auto manufacturing, leading to complaints about fit and finish. They had to know they had not reached perfection, but it was time to start production and get the cars to customers, the small - but visible and nagging - flaws be damned. From that perspective, they did exactly the right thing.
Thanks for the point of view. I'm sure it will inform my thinking in years to come.

Great comparisons! As a long, long-time Apple fan and user and a big fan of Tesla, I saw the similarities of the two companies immediately. Apple's products have always been better, in virtually every way and have spear-headed virtually every new computer and phone tech in the past ~40 years. Likewise, Tesla is inventing and coming out with virtually every new battery storage and EV tech in our day and both companies make sure to wrap their products in the coolest-looking designs.

Thanks, Malcolm! Australia may be a little behind on EVs, but you guys are killing it with solar.

Nothing wrong with a second hand leaf. My second hand fiat 500e was less than $10,000 usd and just drives like a champ.

A couple of differences between Jobs and Musk are that Jobs was an excellent speaker who is comfortable on stage, while Musk always has the speaking jitters and seems uncomfortable on stage. Jobs is the better "showman", but he was ultimately more interested in making money for Apple than actually doing anything to help mankind on a big scale. Musk, on the other hand, seems slightly more focused on actually doing things to help the betterment of man, and is even happy if other companies do it first.

JustWasted3HoursHere , Musk doesn’t have the jitters, he’s just listening to information from an external source.

@@shepherdsknoll8 Who? God? :P If you're being serious, I have seen him in all kinds of situations and he almost always talks with hesitations and stutters. I think it's just a mannerism of his.

As I know We wont have less car in the first place because of autonomy. The reason behind is that the first changers will be those who were commuting with public transport. So in the second wave we will have.
    Awsome show. Thanks!

Brilliant analysis! I don't see how others don't see what's happening with Tesla is exactly what happened with Apple. Also I plan on purchasing a Model3 when my enlistment contract is up, so I don't hope prices go up over the next few years, unless Musk meant the appreciating asset was just the full self driving software and not neccessary the entire fleet, which I'm hoping is the case. Great vid.

@House Essentials Tesla will be a lot more than a trillion dollar company, but the money is not what makes a company great, what makes them great is what they have offer... and so far... they have done what nobody else could... not even well established companies like GM, Honda, Toyota, Ford, etc... you have to watch the movie/documentaries called Who Killed the Electric Car to understand better what Tesla has actually accomplished so far.

I've heard Volkswagen is betting all electric vehicles to its group of automobile companies. Let's hope this time we'll have no diesel sandal or the like.

Spot on Matt! The financial markets don’t get it either. Nor does the auto industry - it’s not about the car, it’s an eco system (holistic), and the speed at which the elements are coming together/moving is exponential right now, tho ultimately an S curve.
