You skipped over a critical part for removing the hatch trim. You have to open the smaller hatch window and remove two philips screws which attach to the trim. I tried removing like in your video and I just broke the two mounting points for these screws. Thanks
My only concern with the Eonon units is how bad the internal amplifier is. Sure you can tune the music quality, but it just lacks the power. On the bright side, since you have now android, you can purchase a dedicated CarPlay/Android Auto adapter and have both features.
Ok so from what I learned, if you want the back camera to only be powered on when you reverse, you need to wire tap the power wire into the brake light wires.
My xtrons goes to the backup cam when I got to reverse. It's been like that since installed it. The cam is on my list of shit to do so I haven't tried to disable it. It's just a blank screen right now. This gives me more motivation. The back up cam will be a must on the x5 when I pick it up. Thinking exhaust, intake and n62 throttle body will come first tho
Hello, thank you for posting the video. Just bought an AONON R49 head unit for my 03 e39 and a back up camera. I am hoping that by now you heard back from EONON tech support about the trigger wire for the back up camera and don’t mind sharing it. The wiring harnesses is not labeled for the reverse (trigger wire) and it is kind of disappointing that AONON did not take the time to label the wires, specially in this case for the reverse. Thank you.
Hello, I just ordered the Q49PRO today for my E39 and also interest to hear response on how to get reverse trigger working with the camera only when the gear in put in reverse. thanks
Nice video!!! I just installed the same system this past weekend in my e39. Already had it in my E53. I also added the ATOTO AC-SC3601 for the surround rear view which is awesome.
Great content been going thru your vids looking to see if you showed how you got your reverse lights to work with the swap. I have the manual swap but reverse lights never got hooked up
Perfect timing for this video! I just bought my e39 touring last weekend and the Eonon comes today. Thank you so much for putting this together. Nice mods on yours. I like the M5 cluster and seats. Were you able to get it to work when shifting into reverse or just through the button? I'd love to have both functions enabled for camera auto in reverse and on-demand by button.
@@jdubb2929 It has its quirks. The Android auto and Resler IBUS capabilities make a Droid head unit worth the cost. My Eonon occasionally acts up (shuts off, requiring a re start). I hear they have decent customer support, but the car is a weekend driver project for me so I haven't worked on fixing it.
I think you tied power into the high hazard light power in the tailgate. I wonder if tapping into the clear reverse light would help with the functionality of turning on in reverse? I am going to try a RCA splitter tomorrow to see if I can get it to work on both reverse and on demand buttons.
Rca splitter would be the move, great idea. Not sure about the functionality, although my car is swapped so my light control module is not coded to M5 spec, so the reverse signaling could be incorrect. Keep us updated with what you get fixed up!
@@TheBimmerBarn Tap the red trigger wire (at the yellow RCA going to the head unit) into the brownish wire at position 6 going to the canbus. That power triggers the override when the reverse lights get power. Its mentioned on the diagram on top of the unit.
RCA SPLITTER DOES WORK. Cam has dual functionality. To work, its NOT wired to reverse light. I connected to a hot lead from the tailgate hazard/overhead light. The hot power at the trunk release/wiper would work also. These are all hot on pos2 key. (If you wire to the reverse light and the hot lead from elsewhere it works, but your clear light stays on all the time!) I now have "cam on reverse" automatically when shifting to R, and "on demand" with AVIN button. Was this an auto wagon before? If it was there’s a wire you need to pull from the ike (cluster) to the glove box blue/yellow wire junction. This is the comm for manual cars to enable the mirror tilt and reverse camera trigger signal to the eonon. More info on the forums about “manual swap mirror tilt” EDIT: if you want an epic android add on for bmw, look at I-bus interface by modbmw. It’s epic.
@@TheBimmerBarn that’s interesting, reverse cam should work then. The droid head unit works off the same signal that the mirror tilt works on. If mirror tilt works, the option could be disabled in the droid settings. The cam overlay gets turned on as soon as the car is in manual, at least mine does (e46 manual swapped) but it only worked after I got mirror tilt working.
@@Adrian-sw3nv 🤔 I've got a weird problem then, maybe you can help me. I've installed a new android screen and tested the reverse camera and it works(haven't installed it yet😅) but my right mirror doesn't tilt on either of the two positions of the adjustment switch. Should I check for a disconnected cable or would it be a module fault?
@@Adrian-sw3nv No, it was definitely a manual from the factory, even if some maintenance tasks could have been done to the gearbox. But the weirdest thing is that both the backup light and the CAN signal picked by the radio work perfectly. And obviously the angle adjustments on both mirrors work perfectly. Therefore, I need to understand better how it works, does the reverse switch go to the right door mirror unit and then sent by CAN from there, or does the reverse switch first reach the can and be sent to the mirror as a CAN signal?
Have you had to work on the rear hatch not closing? I’m hoping to get an e39 touring soon but the hatch doesn’t close right. I believe it’s a wiring issue at the hinge.
Bro nobody wants to really fuck with canbus. There's no support.. It's to complicated for nothing, besides this works for x5, e39 early and late models, e46, etc, and they all have different can bus systems as well. It's all a mess when you deal with can bus. Nobody wants or can understand Can system that does DIY. This is simple and not to hard or expensive
Would have been a perfect time to do that headliner too
😍😍😍😍😍 E39 M5. Very good job.
Awesome! Chris, can you record both the front and rear camera at the same time? Handy for proof if someone bumps into you or cuts you off.

Reverse light would make sense
I reached out to a seller on eBay and was directed to a license plate light camera that fits in the touring. Haven’t even confirmed fitment yet tho.
Nice. But you can get a much nicer camera than is integrated with a boot latch handle opener
For touring? I saw only the one for sedan, do send a link if you find it!

I've seen the camera that's part of the handle for the touring I dunno how good they are though

You'll want to make sure the light module is coded correctly, that has to line up with the wiring and you're good to go!

Could be at the Hinge, could be a poorly adjusted latch (I have a video fixing mine) but generally easy to diagnose/fix

Your chinese multimedia system with cam, does not count as retrofit... So don't caption it, please. There is solution for stock mms, using tv signal.
