I'm 22 years old from Dunedin, lived here for my whole life and I'm itching to and travel to see the world. It's taking me a while to sort it all out and save up money so I'm getting a bit of cabin fever. It's made me get sick of Dunedin and lately I've grown to view it through the lens of the bad aspects it has and grow tired of it. But I've realised that's just because I'm from here and need a fresh start somewhere else for a while. It's cool to see my home through the eyes of someone who it's new to again. There is a lot of really nice things about Dunedin that I do love and I shouldn't take for granted. It's a nice city to have grown up in and a nice city to raise a family one day. I'm certain that after I've traveled away for a while I'll love and appreciate it again when I return. Thanks for featuring my town guys, really cool video ❤

At 22, you have plenty of time, as a native English speaker, you have heaps of options. Try Au pairing, then getting working holiday visas for different countries!

You should definitely get out and see the world like Europe, East Asia or the Americas. I think anyone who doesn’t live beyond NZ for at least 6 months is a tragedy.
But don’t get too down in Dunedin. I’m from Wellington and I love the place (even though most Dunedinites don’t seem to like Wellington much back hahaha).
Yeah it’s cold, and its economy had been in stagnation for about 4-5 decades, and most of its old industries are gone, and its now dependent on the varsity, and that varsity has become a rich kid’s playground, and it’s a bit of a big town. But it’s got so much character and there are so many interesting and creative and outgoing people there once you can scratch the surface. And I have to fight back my jealousy over all that great indie rock music that came out of there back in the 1980s. I like it so much better than boring and conservative old Christchurch. I think it’s got so much unrealised potential, it just needs a good city council and regional council for a few decades and maybe build some industries around that University.

I left in the 70s , lived all over NZ , moved to Oz mid 70s , travelled , then came ' home ' to retire . I love that so many of the city's iconic structures remain .

Dunedin is lucky to have a fair numbers of developers who refuse to knock old buildings down, instead they'll refurbish, strengthen and preserve them.
    Heroes in my opinion.

Dunedin, my favourite NZ City. You will find out it was originally a Scottish settlement, not English or Irish. although they settled their too, the predominant settlers were from Scotland Dunedin is Gaelic for Edinburgh and the city is often referred to as Edinburgh of the South. Enjoy your time, it gets better the further south you go!

A breakaway group from the Church of Scotland established the settlement . The ' Wee Free Men ' aka the WeeFrees . Then Gabriel Reid discovered gold inland and the quote/unquote ' Scum of the Earth arrived ... The older buildings were all built of that goldrush money .

My family were Scottish and settled in Dunedin in 1850, I was born there and love the place. It's very much a student city with over 20,000 attending Otago University. The Peninsula is amazing, my Grandmother lived in St Clair, a short walk to the beach, fantastic holidays.

Dunedin is a great city! My ancestors came over from Scotland in the 1800's and settled there
The old buildings are beautiful as are the ones in Oamaru. I grew up in Christchurch and really miss some of the lovely old places destroyed by the earthquakes we had here.

If you get a chance, do take a trip on the old train to Taieri Plains and up into the heartland where the scenery changes dramatically. It's well worth the cost! Enjoy the South guys. ❤

Hello to you both! I randomly stumbled upon your channel and as a Dunedin resident, it has been enjoyable to follow your journey down South and see your first impressions of the place! I’m leaving a comment because unfortunately, one thing in your videos has started to bug me and I’ve been feeling increasingly compelled to say something about it. The majority of the drone footage that you’ve been featuring in your videos is breaking NZ government regulations for flying drones in this country, and there can be major consequences for doing this.
I know I’m not the first person to mention your drone usage, but I noticed that you ignored these comments and are seemingly continuing to fly your drone in disallowed places. To provide a couple examples - your most recent video has drone footage right beside Dunedin Hospital, which has a very frequently used helipad (drones cannot be flown within 4km of this). Secondly, flying a drone in the Mt Cook area is also prohibited given that it’s DOC land, and there are signs stipulating this on-site. Please don’t take my comment comment as criticism or negativity, I really just want to make you fully aware of the NZ drone regulations because to me, your actions come across as quite disrespectful and inconsiderate. I don’t know the full picture - maybe you’ve been granted permits, have taken the footage from elsewhere, or perhaps you’re simply unaware of the rules + consequences. Anyway, I just wanted to air my concerns and wish you all the very best for the remainder of your NZ stay - looking forward to the next Dunedin vid 😎.

Welcome to my city! It was settled by Scots, which is why there's a lot of presbyterian churches. I hope you managed to see more of the city than just the main streets! They've just finished all the new roading in the centre of the city that were under construction when you were there, and itgives the CBD a much friendlier vibe.

After seeing that pie, I am really craving a good Dunedin pie. Everything looks a lot brighter and broader than when we lived there 30 years ago. Fresh paint. Not grey and full of goths any more. And no buskers? I'm surprised the streets and footpaths are so empty so close to xmas. Used to barely be room to pass other pedestrians while doing the xmas shopping. I guess deliveries are making it a bit quieter now? It is around 50% bigger than when we lived there.

Great video guys - so funny hearing your take on things. DUNEDIN means the Edinburgh of the south, The plan was based on Edinburgh - there are some quirky features like steep streets due to them not taking into consideration that the land was not flat. Buildings facing south to catch the midday sun. At the railway station the clock tower only has 3 faces (It was considered a waste of money to have a clock face looking out to sea). The main streets are Princess (South) and George with the Octagon in the middle. Robbie Burns Statue has his likeness facing the pubs and his back to the church. Hope you take time to go out on the Peninsula - Lanarch's Castle has beautiful grounds and great views - even if you don't venture inside (Lanarch was an ambitious scotsman who became a parliamentarian and went bankrupt)

St Paul's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral church located in The Octagon near the Dunedin Town Hall in the heart of Dunedin, New Zealand. It's not a Roman Catholic Church.

It's a shame what has been done to George Street. It should definitely not be pedestrianised.
Glad you noticed our historical building. It's something I value greatly. And yes...all the cars. I wish there were fewer cars on the road. Working from home is not something us kiwis have mastered.

Re earthquake- NZ hasn't had a good history of restoration. It was take a photo of it and pull it down. There was criticism of Christchurch buildings and grand homes that should have been restored.
The rebuild was also a nightmare for so many people with the conservative government's approach to 'fixing' the city.
