Good evening, Charles; Thank you for stopping by and the comments. It is all fun for me. This has been weather as I remember growing up here. Yep. I did catch a bit more time between the sheets. Will again tomorrow as that #5 Zephyr is 4 hrs. and some late from Chicago. Have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe!
Good morning and thank you for looking in from Poland! I like to travel by trains as well. Ot all starts and ends here on this platform. Please take care and stay safe over there.
Hi Mike-folks trenching through the snow,ya saved that 1 guy a trip by telling him where to go/did a about face onward to his destination, have a great Sat.& thanks for battling the elements, Jeb ☃️
Good evening, Jeb; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. I think there was about an inch on the platform this morning. It has quit snowing, and the temps will stay fairly static overnight. Another late departure from Chicago for the next #5. It is 4 hrs. and a few min. late. More eyelid checks tomorrow morning. Anyway, have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe!
Good day, Robo; Thank you for tuning in and the comments. I hope that you get a break from the humidity and heat over there. Please take care, stay cool, and safe!
Hi Mike! Have not touched the snow shovel once this season in Grand Junction ( although the Grand Mesa is buried in snow to the east). New Orleans and the Florida panhandle have had much more snow than us. Less I digress, have a great day!
Good afternoon and thanks for stopping by along with the comments. Yep. This is an upslope event coming in from the northeast. Not much to it here. A bit deeper along the front range and south. Have a great afternoon and evening out there. Plese take care and stay safe!
Good afternoon, Kenny; I thank you for dialing in along with the comments. It wasn't too bad on the platform this morning. It may break and give us some better weather starting Monday. I hope. \Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good afternoon, Cheryl; I thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. It may have looked bad bit there was only a couple inches of fluffy snow. Clearing the sidewalks and porch were easily done. There are still some people who have not learned how to navigate thru the snow here. They have not learned how to gingerly stop on this stuff. Those folks headed to Calif. will get a chance to see some different land as they travel thru Nevada in the sunlight tomorrow. I hope their trip is a good one. It looks as though tomorrows Zephyr #5 is a delayed departing train today from Chicago. They keep that up and I'll have to relearn how and when to get up again. LOL! Have a great Saturday afternoon and evening. Please take care and stay safe!
Good afternoon and thank you for stopping by and the comments. That was the rustle of the plastic covering I had over the camera. As light as the snow actually was, I probably could have worked without it. On well. I am in hopes this is the last snow for the month. LOL! Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening. Please take care and stay safe!
Good afternoon, Carolyn; O thank you for stopping by along with the comments. We have only about 2 inches of new snow. Very little wind to blow the dry fluffy stuff around. Makes for easy scooping. Have a great afternoon and evening down there. Please tale care and stay safe! 🤓👋👍👌☃❄☃
Good morning, Mike. Seeing the Zephyr arrive in the snow reminded me of the time in January of 2008 when my mom and I were riding the coast starlight back to Tacoma from Sacramento after riding the Sunset Limited from Tucson to LA. Anyway, our train was delayed in Western Oregon in one of the mountain passes due to a derailed train. There was at least 5 feet of snow. We didn't get into Tacoma until 3am. Stay warm out there and have a great day.
Good afternoon, Gary; I thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. That could have been a great train ride. I would have enjoyed the extra time onboard. I may be riding the Sunset LTD, Coast Starlight to Sacramento and trans fer to the #6 Zephyr to come home from New Orleans next September. All depends on how AMTRAK routes me. Anyway, have a great afternoon and evening out there. Please take care and stay safe!
That looks like a whole lotta "Brrrrrrr" Mr. Mike ... Thanks for the vid. Still wanna see #5 blast through a 2-3 ft snow, haha. Hope you followed this up, with a nice, HOT coffee.
Good morning, Chris; hanks for stopping by and the comments. It isn't too bad. There is little to no breeze at present. But a major warming trend is promised Monday. I'll believe it when I feel it. Yep. Coffee did happen and it is now consumed. Have a great Saturday out there. Please take care and stay safe!
Good Saturday afternoon Mike! A sunny 38 degrees indicated here! My car showed 47 on my drive home from an early dinner. Even though number 5 was late today at least they made it through! My Dad took an honor flight too when he was living! He completely enjoyed that! He was an Optometrist by profession and retired from the US Air Force and reserves holding the rank of Major. Have a great Saturday out your way Sir! I am enjoying this sunny and warmer weather for sure! Should be into the 40’s starting tomorrow on Sunday for most of next week! Mark in Iowa.
Good afternoon, Mark; Thank you for dropping by and the comments. I was able to get several members of the local VFW post on a flight back there to see the WWII memorial. They all earned the "Ruptured Duck". I have seen all but the WWII memorial several times and set up a couple reenlistments at the wall. I think the flights are a wonderful thing for those who wish to go. Sorry, I refuse to fly. They don't arrange train travel to Washington for those who don't fly. I am lucky to have seen most of the memorials. We may see the 40s here starting Monday. That is after the National Western Stock Show closes tomorrow. Anyway, have a great Saturday afternoon and evening back there. Plese take care and stay safe!
Hi Mike. After so many days of on time or even early arrivals, now it looks like equipment problems are producing long delayed arrivals. Our thanks for your sticking the waits out & grabbing good videos. We are escaping the freeze. Temp is up to 52° with sun. Living on the shady side of the street, I have at least close to 6 inches of ice remaining from the initial freezing rain. It'll take several days of 50+ temps and NO nights of
Good afternoon, Jim; I thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. Yep. Gives me another few minutes in bed. Doesn't work though. Once I am awake, I am awake and time to move. It is still all fun though. Hope that you do get a thaw for that ice buildup. I don't miss that too much. LOL! My side of the street is in constant shade and the ice does build up along the curbs and parking areas. Then the city fathers allow their plow drivers to shove the snow to the side of the street blocking in the vehicles and making for more ice. Must have spent time on Long Island. And other major cities on the east coast. Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Plese take care and stay safe!
Take you up to 120 Mike hope you have warmed up stay safe hope to get out tomorrow myself as it is finally warmed up here minus 7 Celsius. Be safe my friend
Good evening, James; Thanks for dialing in and the comments. Nice to read you are getting a bit of relief from the frigid air up there. The temps here should still be in the same range tomorrow morning. Have a great evening. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!
Good evening, Ken; Thanks for dropping by and the comments. With the inch or so of powder snow it is easy to maneuver thru it. The company that has the contract to clear the platform won't touch it until the snow has stopped. This is one of many areas they clear during snow weather. Anyway, have a great evening. Please take care and stay safe back there.
@Mikeinmorgan I'm not sure if you were able to understand what the person said in Polish in one of the comments, but he basically said he loves traveling by train and follows Amtrak and greetings from Poland. I don't speak Polish very well, but I understand some of the language.
Good morning Mike. Got to sleep in a little later on a snowy morning. Nice video this morning. Never know if it’s going to be a double stop or single. Nice to see passengers broading. Have a good day.😊😊😊😊😊
Good morning, Gerald; Thanks for dialing in as well as the comments. Yep. I did manage to stay in bed for another half hour of tossing and turning. Gave that up and watched trains on TH-cam for a while. Knowing the lead conductor, I wasn't surprised too much that he called a single spot stop. There was a lot more passenger traffic than I thought there would be. Makes it more fun for me. Hope that you have a great Saturday down there. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!
hi Mike i see you got some snow there .ours is slowly going away its a balmy 25 degrees here now lol. thanks for the catch of #5 today. have a great day and a safe one.
Good afternoon, Ken; Thank you for dropping by and the comments. It has turned into a very fine snow that seems to nor want to end. LOL! Again, no moisture content. I'll remove it from the walks in a few minutes. I can see the sun thru the cloud deck, so I am in hopes of the snow ending. It may warm here come Monday. Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Plese take care and stay safe!
Good morning Mike from 50( can you believe it) mid Tenn. Late but better with good operating locomotive than one quiting enroute. Lots of white stuff there.
Good afternoon, Ben; Thank you for stopping by as well as the comments. That temp sounds really nice. It is still snowing here although very lightly. We are to get back to usual weather here on Monday and beyond. I went thru that in Chicago some years back. AMTRAK was very apologetic and made go for several passengers who would miss connections farther west. The parent (host) railroads put it on AMTRAK that they require two working engines thru the mountains and with good reason. Out here on the plains, a single unit can power the train across the line at passenger road speed without trouble. There is only about 2 inches of snow here. It is the typical dry fluff. Makes for easy scooping. Have a great afternoon and evening back there. Please take care and stay safe!
Late again due to engine troubles ! Let's hope the new locos will do as well as the old P40s, and P42s ! I was shocked how quickly the snow obliterated the red tail lights as the train departed !
Good morning, Norman; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. Sadly, the ALC42s have an issue yet to be resolves as far as I know of snow ingestion into the traction motors. That is why those used on the Empire Builder up north have to be paired with a P42 or P40 motor. Once they slit the train at Spokane, they travel into a different type of snow that is more like concrete and isn't sucked into the motors of the WAGs. The dry and powdery snow out here creates that issue. Maybe they will bet it resolved. The marker lights were covered by the snow being kicked up as the Zephyr passed. Typical of the dry snow out here. I think it is rather neat to watch. Anyway, have a great Saturday. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!
The Chicago winter “meltdown” continues with most LD trains departing late because of mechanical issues. Amtrak management continues to struggle blaming weather, old equipment, etc. We might believe them except VIA Canada is operating older equipment and generally on schedule.
Good morning, PCBill; I thank you for dialing in along with the comments. There is something to be said about the reliability of the F40s and other older power units used north of the boarder. I have not heard how the new train sets are faring up there. I have seen the new trainsets for VIA as they were moved east to Chicago for transfer by the UP thru Kearney and Laramie. But when no former USA locomotive manufactures desired to participate in building passenger power, you see what happens. Sad state of affairs. Anyway, hope that you have a great Saturday. Please take care, stay warm, and safe!
Good afternoon Mike jensen My Name is Damien I heard the train arrived in fort Morgan already and went to Denver and if you see mandy Tell Mandy Damien Says Hi
Good morning Mike, thanks for braving the cold and snow this week. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the opportunity to sleep in too.

ANOTHER LATE #5 departure Chicago Today... 3rd time in row!!!
