Its so crazy that this wasn't premiered until 6 years ago... mind-boggling!
hi nooti :)
@@evplayspiano hiii ev! hehe
actually it was. But was also suddenly deleted by google.
@@Pianodud ? what do you mean?
yes after 30 years of composition, damn.
Might be my new favourite Kapustin piano concerto alongside No. 4
where in the world has this guy been hiding? how could he have not been out there in the concert circuit with this quality of work?
Are you talking about Masahiro Kawakimi (pianist) or Kapustin?
@@borbalbuddy Kapustin
nothing beats an epic guitar solo in Kapustin works, like at 4:32 and the one in his saxophone concerto
SLAPP TIME
that is so epic wth
That is not a guitar solo
@@mcbill7352 it's riff
bro it's so scrumptious
Thanks for this. I had an audio rip of the youtube video but I saw it was taken down recently. Really looking forward to an official recording of this concerto at some point.
yes! I knew someone else (you) had a video of this up at some point!
First time I've listened to the music of Nikolai Kapustin. Reminds me a lot of Lalo Schifrin. I played some of if for my wife and she said it reminds her of the music in the James Bond movies. As a classical music enthusiast for almost 50 years, this is not something I usually look for, but I like Lalo Schifrin so I will definitely seek out more of Kapustin's music.
Omg I've been waiting for this! Thank you
That third movement is just........wow!! kinda like a rhapsody of sorts! many different sections with different melodies coming in and phasing out again!
23:33 is quoting his Concert Etude No. 7
wooooooooooowwwwwwwww
Well spotted! 👍😊
Absolutely massive vibe played by an immensely talented performer
Thank you!
Not recorded very well, but this is the only recording of the piece I managed to find..
You still might be the first one to make a score video of this on youtube. And Kawakami always does a great job on Kapustin.
could you kindly share a link to where you found this recording?
@@Ale-qf1pm I downloaded this from an older video that was uploaded in TH-cam, which was up for quite a bit of time. The video was taken down a couple months ago, but I still had the recording saved on my device and I was already making the score video then. I don't know if there's any more places where you can find this recording.
Edit: The original video (archived in Wayback Machine) was this web.archive.org/web/20201112003133/th-cam.com/video/sUnBG72oddM/w-d-xo.html
Hopefully Frank Dupree records this one sometime.
@@Classicalmusicscores1984I was hoping this’d be his next recording, but Dupree mentioned in a comment a few days ago that Kapustin’s 2nd Concerto was just recorded and will be the next release.
so good...
4:32 hell yeah
it's development time!
@@unnamed_boi… bruh
2:37 (and it's return at 9:34) is very yes
and the melody that comes after it in the strings AAHHHHH
also 8:40 is epic moment as well
29:02 mario underground theme but more epic xd
the first melody mentioned also comes back at 12:24 on the oboe/flutes
@@samaritan29that's true that's a beautiful moment as well
the two renditions i mentioned though in the exposition and recapitulation get me like 📈📉📈📈📈📉📉 and it's not the theme alone but also the strings melody that comes right after it that's just so gorgeous
@@unnamed_boi Yes! - and that string melody does come back in the piano cadenza (14:06) though in a harmonically altered / kapustiny form
@@samaritan29 that melody actually comes just after the part you mentioned as well but much altered, listen carefully to the brass in 12:43 onwards and compare it to the original melody. though just... that original iteration of the melody with the sweeping strings... man that's just so good
@@unnamed_boi interesting --- i didn't realize that (2:58, 12:43) was just a truncated version of that turn-like gesture (2:48) -- but you're right - the original iteration is still the best!
Here before the Dupree cover 😜
Praying to God that Dupree actually does make a cover of the work🙏
Yeah "cover" is the right word here.
Dupree's fantasy on the theme of Kapustin's 3rd :D
@@vivvpprof lol. As far as I’ve seen of the sheet music he just overplays dynamics and tempo changes, but the notes being accurate make it still fun to listen to for me.
@@vivvpprof Read the music and check the metronome numbers which Kapustin asks for ;) The next album is in preparation, friends.
I liked franks interpretation of the 4th concerto, and preferred Kawasaki’s 5th interpretation
Based channel with OP music
12:24 so beautiful
totally agree
Unfathomably based, thanks for sharing!
Very groove
Wow, an unheard Concerto by Kapustin, it's like a christmas gift! Where did you find this recording?
There was a recording available on TH-cam, which I have downloaded but was taken down a few months before I made this score-video. I guess I was lucky enough to have saved it xD
@@musicboiscores that's really lucky xD but thank you for your work :)
Kapustin should be well known at least as Prokofiev. What a musical genius, beautiful melodies and harmonies just flew of him endlessly!
Genio
I always expect an announcer saying “Next on BBC, the evolution of potato farming in Wales…”
Love this part 9:45
The snare on 3... Always 😟 But the brass and guitar so good. TX !
It's just on the 1st post, it's alla breve actually
15:11
6:06
1:21
12:42
2:37
9:34
15:10 HOLLYLYYYY
What happened at rehearsal numbers 26 and 27... the pianist is a full eighth note behind the orchestra for much of this segment!
Yeah it's very unfortunate... I hope this gets another recording xD. As I'm aware of, this is taken from the world premiere of the piece, and I guess since they still don't quite know the piece well enough...
so unbelievably based
10:16 very cool part
Прикольно. Разные стили и всё вместе звучит
В этом вся магия эклектики постмодерна!
3rd movement includes Russian folk motives, it’s really funny 🎉🎉🎉
based
wish someone would write a double piano reduction (like PC2 & 4)
How did you get the score for this, any help would be appreciated, thanks for your video!
You can buy the score from Schott music, or you can freely view a watermarked version of the entire score also at Schott Music's website
26:01
13:20 beautiful cadenza
Super based
4:30
are you fucking kidding me
Kapustin is certainly not kidding you.
Sick guitar and bass though isn't it xD
You call this cacophony music? Lol.
do you call it cacophony music?
@@alixvox No, I just call it cacophony!
@@jonb4020what do you not like about it?
👍😂
@@cantthinkofausername6749 I don't like that it has no traditional form, structure, melody or pleasant harmony. No beauty. Continual dissonance is not music. In my view of course. There may be people who love this sort of thing, as is their right.
