This is especially true of a Pathfinder when random jump points are spawned. 3) The Odyssey's ability to defend itself is actually quite a lot worse than the Carrack simply due to the turret locations so it's not truly a ship that is as 'self-sufficient' as the marketing material would imply. In addition to that, while you can mine hydrogen fuel, you can't actually do anything with it. The entire refueling system is internal, and self-feeding. 4) The Odyssey being significantly larger than the Carrack implies that the Carrack could quite possibly fit in Jump Points that the Odyssey is simply too large to go through, directly restricting the route options in-game as an Odyssey crew. (This is probably one of the more notable downsides of flying such a large ship. A vast majority of jump points are medium and small.)

Great looking ship, most of the spec i have seen says it has 4 x medium computers. I hope that proves true as it will need extra blade slots for the mining buffs it can bring to fuel it self, as well as the exploration blades.

I seriously considered switching from Carrack to Odyssey. The Carrack layout is fine if everyone is healthy and there isn't a major fight, however the shuttle bay is tiny and the only elevator that will fit a gurney is in the rear which makes patient transport from ground to medical bay circuitous. I stayed with the Carrack due to the modular cargo bays and the drone bay.
Dont forget that the carrack got the scaner and cartography gameplay that the oddesy is missing. wich should put the carrack as the "better" deep space pure explorer. I was tempted to change to odyssey also, especialy as it looks much better(not a big fan of carracks outer visuals) but stayed for the carrack
Great Video, never considered this ship but I think Im going to melt my Banu MM for the Odyssey. primarily because of the hanger and the ability to re-fuel itself. I wonder if SC will build systems that have never been visited! no information on file, wont that be cool!
I hope at some point, tgere will be a small dronevehicle or repair ship. Probably an Argo variant, so you can repair if needed. Also doin maintainance on tge cap size components would be preferable, so this could get a real long travel ship. I probably ccu one of my bmms to it. It is a really nice small group ship. Thx for your content...
i mainly salvage, this is going to be my mobile scrap yard. with the vulture in the hangar. the odyssey serving are storage and refuel with the ability to fuel scoop and quantum refine.
I’m curious why not only the odyssey, but also a larger ship like the kraken says that the minimum crew is 1. I’m happy for it since I most likely won’t have more than 3 other crew members (or none) for the odyssey, but it just seems odd since there aren’t even any pilot controlled weapons, aside from missiles
Is it weird that sometimes I want ships that can do all of these but are much smaller? Like, see how much you can stuff into a Freelancer sized ship. I dunno, having the functionalities without needing to deal with the size problems of big ships would be nice. Maybe I'm not as enamoured by large ships as some are.
Very excited for this ship, but hopefully blades are in the game before this so we can at least rely on having ai control the turrets for us for at least some basic protection.
Ah yes, the "Carrack-Killer". Now, I am not a monster, I too love the Carrack. But I really hate how every single ship in this game that comes even remotely close to the size or price of the Carrack is immediately compared to the Carrack. The Carrack has become this sacrosanct ship that somehow every ship should be better than (otherwise it would not be worth it), while at the same time anything actually being better than the Carrack would be a capital offence.
I call it the "Carrack Companion". If the descriptions of the ship functions are to be believed, the Carrack will find jump points and various points of interest, and the Odyssey has the greater endurance to stay out and investigate longer with its ability to make fuel for itself and refuel the ships it carries. Could be for additional exploration (Terrapin), for mining expeditions (Prospector/On board ROCs, etc.), and more.
A lot of people always just think their ship is, and should remain, the 'best'. A bit of tribalism, as it were. I think the Odyssey and Carrack are different enough for both to have a place.
Carrack killer, no. Carrack *competitor*? Yes. They're similar-sized ships filling the same general role, and as such neither should be nor probably will be definitively better than the other all the way around. The Odyssey has some capability the Carrack doesn't have and vice versa, so which a player chooses will come down to which capabilities (or simple aesthetics) they value more. But I don't think the Odyssey is going to "kill" the Carrack any more than I think the Carrack is going to kill the Odyssey.
I think sub-capitals (excluding freighters like the Hull-C) are a bit too big to be reasonable for my purposes, but if I were to go for one it would probably be the Odyssey.
Being that I prefer MISC, the Odyssey would be my end game ship instead of the Endeavor. I just hope they change the mining module to still mine everything.
The term “Carrick Killer” upon release was fairly quickly debunked with Q&A shortly after. I like the versatility of the odyssey but it won’t be as tanky or defensible as the Carrick.
No way this has only 2 main thrusters. The battle artwork shows a large, elongated thruster across the back so that is 3 (effectively 4). It also shows those front attached pods with thrust coming out of them bring the total up to a more realistic 5 (effectively 6). And what are those pods on the lower with the blue ring since they look like more thrusters?
@SpaceDad42 its a all purpose exploration ship. Think the Carrack. It can mine and refine fuel if i remember correctly. Or at least carry a mobile mining vehicle like a ROC. A ship like the Odyssey would be invaluable in Pyro. Where fuel and supplies are scarcer. Its a safe bet for long distance expeditions with a crew
Hi Farrister, I'm not sure where you are seeing the Odyssey only has 2 computers. Everything I can find says it has 4 computers. Is this an error or did you have some sort of update that I didn't see?
I want to hope that we're 2 or so years out but with the CitCon announcement regarding the focus on RSI ships for now I can see it being much longer. Particularly if they decide to focus on a different manufacturer after RSI that isn't MISC.
Hello Farrister. It's your regular poster and fello Org mate here. I like this video showcasing the MISC Odyssey. It is a nice concept ship with a lot of uses. Since I'm into Exploring, it would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of my budget range. I like the versatility of the ship, and multiple functions it has. I remember everyone saying it was the Carrack Killer when it was introduced. I believe it's bigger than the Carrack and has some more capabilities, but, I like my Carrack and I think I will stick to it over the Odyssey. Thanks for doing this video, as always. Stay well! Fly safe, and I'll see you in verse.
Actually, I was in the server for a little while and move my possessions from New Babbage to the station above it. I didn't stay in game long. I was on discord with one new member for a while, but I wasn't in game.
Wait, am i mixing this up with another ship? I thought this is the one eith the different external Attachments like the giant Radar dish or greenhouses...
I have an Odyssey via a CCU chain as it feels very overpriced as warbond for what you get. We just don't know its real capabilities at the moment as it doesn't really have any strengths unlike the Carrack. The Jump Point version had dedicated exploration facilities, such as the scanning room, but in the concept sale that was replaced with an utterly pointless viewing room with a small viewing slit. The stated role as a long range self sufficient exploration ship also seems flawed as its still tied to local re-supply for food etc, has no repair facilities, resupply or proper re-fueling capability for the small ship its carrying (hand fueling only), and no dedicated scanning facilities. I do like the internal structure as feels more like a ship you could live in. Definitely not a ship I'd recommend at the price until we know more about the final ship.
I never got the maximum crew. 6 is way too less. 1 pilot, 1 captain(maybe), 2 co pilots(maybe 1). no we are already if all is added at 4 people. laser beam and tractor beam adds another 2 people. engineer is another one. Maybe a pilot landed in your oddysey to get refueled or something, adds another one temporarily. now we are at 8 people. Realistically we would add at least 1 more to be able to use all 3 turrets at once(2 copilots and one other guy). now we are at 9. CIG really needs to add more beds in ships, like the reclaimer somehow only has 5, how? 2 beams, claw, pilot, 2 turrets, engineer, box sorter. Wayyy more than 5!
@@Farrister Thats probably it, but in real life the pilot of a plane is only the pilot. Not the cook as a second job. If they want to make a realistic game, every place has to have their own person and bed.
This is pretty true of all their ships, really. They never have enough berths for all the needed hands. What's more, CIG's ship designs make it clear that they have no ex-sailors on their ship teams nor anyone at all who understands the concept of watch standing. At best with their berthing accommodations, you could have a port-and-starboard watch cycle with the crew hot-bunking like on submarines. But none of their ships have enough berths to accommodate a three or four-section watch cycle nor even just a regular port-and-starboard watch without having to hot bunk.
I've been in two minds about the Odyssey from the start. I want to like it BUT there is thing about it that say NO don't get one Vs the Carrack the t2 med bed is a downgrade. the ship hanger is the same size ? but if they let you mine and refine and store other materials along with QT and Hyd fuel . Then I can see its worth . out and about doing what ever mining ores storing for sale later repair refuel the fighter F8c Cough LOL would be great . Sticking the turrets on to blades to fend off the small fighters. I will wait till its out and all the stuff is fully known and if I get to see one in game will help making my mind up, but at this time the Odyssey isnt for me
I think many of these backers need to put away the Romanticism, use some common sense and realize nobody wants another day job. Its a generous gesture buying for the community, because chuck, your not buying them for yourself. Seeing these ships reach fruition solo is a plushie hugging impossible pipe dream. The BMM which so many of us have for braggin rights alone, yet its a shopping centre, now that sounds thrilling, it really does. PS: the planning, support and maintenance of the BMM will amaze many, that alone Capitals and an Orion. I myself have had to do some restructuring over this IAE, perspective was the main goal, ''foremost, buy for myself and don't become a generous benefactor to the community '', its my money im spending, my time im giving , to a game, not a good cause. If some one decides to give Capital ships to the community, so be it and god bless them.
I think these Drydock series should be changed to show more video on the background. It doesn't even need to be of the ship being presented. It's hard to keep attention on a pp slideshow.
Yeah I've been grappling with that, the challenge as you say would be that it would be of a different ship. Maybe I'll give it a try with semi transparent footage, a bit like a projector on a wall type thing
I dunno, I think it's neat. It gives some gameplay variety, and it's done to link to the purpose of exploration by extending the effective range of the ship.
Dry Dock is a major win. Thanks for all of your hard work. I can’t wait for this ship.

Whoop whoop, my ship!
Yay!
Great Video, never considered this ship but I think Im going to melt my Banu MM for the Odyssey. primarily because of the hanger and the ability to re-fuel itself. I wonder if SC will build systems that have never been visited! no information on file, wont that be cool!
Oh wow, I'm surprised by that - think the BMM is going to be very much in demand!!
Would be cool if it happened!
A complete home away from home? I would love that
Me too!
Coming to you in 2027. After Pyro and server meshing perfection.
Maybe xD
This ship does sound very interesting and fun, but we don't know when the ship will even come in. There's other ships ahead of it before it comes out.
Yup, so true for many...
I bought one.. im super excited
i mainly salvage, this is going to be my mobile scrap yard. with the vulture in the hangar. the odyssey serving are storage and refuel with the ability to fuel scoop and quantum refine.
That sounds awesome!
This looks amazing. Not sure I would want to trade up my Carrack though.
Carrack also pretty amazing :D
I’m curious why not only the odyssey, but also a larger ship like the kraken says that the minimum crew is 1. I’m happy for it since I most likely won’t have more than 3 other crew members (or none) for the odyssey, but it just seems odd since there aren’t even any pilot controlled weapons, aside from missiles
It's quite strange, I agree. I suppose you could fly it solo, but you'd be multi-tasking, and very vulnerable...
Honestly I think the main reason this ship is so big is because of the hangar and the vehicle bay.
When I finally get to a big ship, the Odyssey is my dream. Might get there by the time it's implemented?
Haha, maybe!
Very excited for this ship, but hopefully blades are in the game before this so we can at least rely on having ai control the turrets for us for at least some basic protection.
Time will tell!
That is gorgeous!!
Absolutely
I cant wait for this to release. I wont ever go back home, just leave in my odyssey
Living the dream!
I think sub-capitals (excluding freighters like the Hull-C) are a bit too big to be reasonable for my purposes, but if I were to go for one it would probably be the Odyssey.
This video saved me a $50 upgrade to the Polaris 😂
haha
Being that I prefer MISC, the Odyssey would be my end game ship instead of the Endeavor. I just hope they change the mining module to still mine everything.
The Endeavour is MISC, isn't it?
@@Farrister yes. That’s why I said “instead of the Endeavor”. The Odyssey seems more practical for fewer people.
The term “Carrick Killer” upon release was fairly quickly debunked with Q&A shortly after. I like the versatility of the odyssey but it won’t be as tanky or defensible as the Carrick.
Nice like allways
Thanks :)
Love this ship
Cool All Purpose Ship You Got There
Sadly Though: *S P A C E T R U C K*
Haha
No way this has only 2 main thrusters. The battle artwork shows a large, elongated thruster across the back so that is 3 (effectively 4). It also shows those front attached pods with thrust coming out of them bring the total up to a more realistic 5 (effectively 6). And what are those pods on the lower with the blue ring since they look like more thrusters?
I got one as soon as it dropped.
I love to play games and watching your videos! 👍🏻
Yay :)
I really want the Odyssey
Will be my Cowboy Bebop type ship for an alt
That's cool :)
I don't like misc ships. But something about the role and design of this ship really has me wanting it
What is its role?
@SpaceDad42 its a all purpose exploration ship. Think the Carrack. It can mine and refine fuel if i remember correctly. Or at least carry a mobile mining vehicle like a ROC. A ship like the Odyssey would be invaluable in Pyro. Where fuel and supplies are scarcer. Its a safe bet for long distance expeditions with a crew
"Exploring"
Wonder when that'll be a thing? If ever in this PvP murder obssessed game
How long will you be able to explore for before all known space is mapped?
Good question...
Hi Farrister, I'm not sure where you are seeing the Odyssey only has 2 computers. Everything I can find says it has 4 computers. Is this an error or did you have some sort of update that I didn't see?
When are ya going to do a review on the A1 Spirit?
F8 first!
@@Farrister completely forgot about the F8
I want to hope that we're 2 or so years out but with the CitCon announcement regarding the focus on RSI ships for now I can see it being much longer. Particularly if they decide to focus on a different manufacturer after RSI that isn't MISC.
Time will tell, I suppose
Upcoming ship, Farrister?
Come on, that'll be the last ship they do before the Endeavor!
Im seriously considering melting my galaxy for this ship
Oh that's an interesting choice!
If i may suggest more moving pictures of the ship in the back 'ground at least, cause its a bit stale to just look at text about it in these videos...
Yeah, I've been toying with how I might do that, since any live footage wouldn't relate to the ship on the slides!
Do a drydock of the hull series!
Big dog Hull E?
@@Farrister Yeah, might as well!
Why does it have a rear spoiler? Is it going to race? What is its 0-60 time? Is it going to lecture me about family?
lol
Somebody knows when it will be available?
Thanks as ever Koron - saw you were playing with the group a couple of days ago!
I want the odessey! And it had better be available with in game currency.
It’s Pretty Cute
Doesn’t Look like The Best First Chonk Ship to Debut
More Like The 3rd
Sad
This reads like a Haiku lol
Do you wanna try my A1?
I'm intrigued by the A1!
@@Farrister so do you wanna try it? I can from like 4:45PM jerusalem time :D
@@Deinmannryan I will get the chance over the coming weeks, but thanks for offering
@@Farrister oh ok :D
I think some people will double up. Eg when using the mining laser, it's probably a turret gunner using it.
But none of their ships have enough berths to accommodate a three or four-section watch cycle nor even just a regular port-and-starboard watch without having to hot bunk.
i just hate the mail slot style window - especially with an exploration ship
I dunno, I'll reserve judgment until I see it. They specifically mention it in the Q&A!
yeah i am really hoping they break that habit since i have one of these in my hangar @@Farrister
cant see us getting this any time soon sadly :(
Who knows :(
When can I buy one? :(
They often go up for sale a couple of times per year. I wouldn't be surprised to see it up for sale for Black Friday...
@@Farrister I'd absolutely melt my Hull C for one of these. Looks like its everything wrapped up in a really nice package!
POLARIS NEXT PLEASE
Already done! th-cam.com/video/Oi2srMnwT10/w-d-xo.html
THank you
They did state the odyssey could not fit a prospector in the hanger bay.
Oh damn, where? It's listed on the Q&A as fits
They said all size 1 ships - which includes the Prospector - fit.
Lol
I think these Drydock series should be changed to show more video on the background. It doesn't even need to be of the ship being presented. It's hard to keep attention on a pp slideshow.
Yeah I've been grappling with that, the challenge as you say would be that it would be of a different ship. Maybe I'll give it a try with semi transparent footage, a bit like a projector on a wall type thing
Little too much ship for me
But very cool all the same
That's fair!
Is it just me? Or do most cap ships look far too similar?
Another small group/Org Ship
Yup!
Mining laser was the dumbest idea they could come up with that ship.
Infinite fuel, infinite travel distance. How is that dumb? You think fuel costs will be cheap, or always accessible?
I dunno, I think it's neat. It gives some gameplay variety, and it's done to link to the purpose of exploration by extending the effective range of the ship.
Those SC prices are absolutely nonsense.
