Recommendation if you don't want to use so many magnets (they can be a little hard to find and expensive). If you have an old laptop pc or desktop pc that is not working or if you know someone or somewhere that repairs pc's then try to get a hard drive from them (a lot of repair shops simply throw them away so they will gladly give you all you want). When you open a hard drive you will see that over the disc platters are some half-moon shaped metal parts, those are neodymium magnets that are used to spin the discs. Those magnets are extremely powerful, in fact, if you swipe a credit card in top of them or hold them too close to smartphones, tablets, watches or any other electronic equipment they can permanently damage it (I know from experience). With only two of these magnets it will be enough fro the board you made in the video and they won't need to be put so deep in the wood. Be sure to clear coat or paint them after putting them in because they can rust in humid environments and DONT put them close together, the magnetic field of them is very strong and they may suddenly join and be very difficult to separate.. Thanks for the video, looks really great.
Hi there! I would love to make this for my husband for father's day and I have no idea what I'm doing. So I just have a couple questions. 1) How many magnets did you use in each hole? 2) How many magnets do you think would have made it more balanced/less extreme? (I.e. How many do you think is the right amount to use?) 3) How many inches/mm of wood was left approx between the magnet and the knife? 4) What kind of scraper and glue did you use? Thanks!
Hi Mia. great to hear your taking on a project like this for fathers day. I used around 4 or 5 magnets per hole, but in all honesty you really don't need that many. I would say two is max. I would say there is about 1/4" of wood from the knives to the magnets. the tools and materials are all linked in the description box. Thanks so much for watching and hope you subscribed.
Can you please make a kitchen island, that is moveable...? I'm trying to figure out how that will work and not a small one, something you can sit and eat at and it's an island and storage
Oh dear. Your very first clip of table saw usage shows you putting your hand on a workpiece moving past the blade. If there is any sort of kickback on a table saw, it propels the workpiece and anything touching it forward in an uncontrollable and violent manner. If your fingers are on that workpiece, they will fly towards you as well, and potentially into that blade. Please please please get or make a push stick so that your fingers never ever ever get even with or past your table saw blade. That is how you lose fingers!!!!
I'm doing a similar knife holder but I need the fastening points to not make holes in the wall (glazed tile), so I'm thinking of adding 4-8 small suction cups to the back of my board. Anyone know if there is a better solution or if I have to calculate the weight in ratio with the cups?
Suction cups holding up knifes just sounds like a bad idea haha. They could come loose and do some damage. Can you place holes anywhere in the kitchen area?
If you treasure your health and life, wear correct gloves when handling epoxy. Even though the fumes aren’t toxic. The resin is very toxic and carcinogenic. Best regards - Pro boatbuilder
The downside of magnetic knife blocks and counter top knife blocks, it is an easy deadly weapon to grab for a burglar or spousal abuse. Also kids can get to them. A knife drawer is a better way to go, it can have a child lock on it. The knife block looks nice, I'd use it for keys or something else personally.
Well I haven't had to worry about burglars, spousal abuse or kids yet so if that does come into play, I bet I'll agree with you. Thanks for watching and good suggestion on the key holder. Maybe a new video for the future :)
I would only use it when I am cooking. Pick the knives for a specific cooking job and use that to keep them handy. I just think it is safer to not display knives. Create a magnetic knife drawer or inside a cabinet door. Knives are as dangerous as a gun. And I know I am going to catch hell for saying that.
does the direction (N or S up or down) of the magnet placement make a difference? is there a change in the pulling force?
Beautiful!!!!!
Beautiful !
Thanks CM! Its one of my favorite pieces!
Really helpful video, liked the banter and really liked all the helpful tips
Thanks a lot sir.. I learned a lot from this video..! very talented..
Nice clamps! I got those same ones. Also, Nice vid and voice, Well put together, thanks!
any reason you couldn't just use a rectangular-shaped magnet for the entire length (vs. those round magnets)? Thanks

Jelly G. Awesome
What bit are you using? I’m trying to find one that will do this. And you never mentioned what type a bit at least not that I heard!
is there any reason you decided to fill all those holes with epoxy seen as though the back will never be seen?
Just wanted to give it a cleaner look but I do agree it was probably more hassle then it was actually worth. Thanks for watching Tom.
Is it ok to use a compact router aswell?

Can you please let me know why mine doesn’t hold any knife and we have so many magnets.
Dollop is now a running joke because I had never heard it and I'm 50, My wife and Mother in Law still laugh.
I like your videos dude, it teaches me lots of techniques :)
Great to hear Mohammed. Thanks for watching and your support.
A drill with a forstner bit would probably work better for the magnet holes
Thought exactly the same. A plunge router plus that big bit is expensive compared to a drill and a forstner bit.

Could you provide the link to the magnets you used? Or just the magnet strength?
Here is a link Dain amzn.to/2QyLSyd. Thanks for the reminder and for watching.
@@BYOTools Thank you! Great videos.
what type of magnets did you use and what is their pull force?
No way I'd use those magnets--too weak if you need that many. There are better magnets out there.

Looks great man!
been waiting on something like this
Where did you get the magnets at?
Amazon
Dollop - a portion; a serving of a soft or liquid substance.
This is method for making Hershey's Kisses!
Haha! Thanks for the helpful note. I'll have to keep that in mind haha. Thanks for watching Colleen.
Проблема подобных подвесов плохо магнитится к ножам если магниты сильные и находятся близко к ножу то проблем не должно быть
FYI, the magnets currently show out of stock
Make it wooden with the help of the Woodbex instructions.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great to hear and thanks for watching Nathalie.
Please make more videos
your projects are engineering student's wet dreams
Now that was a comment I've never heard but I loved it haha!! Thanks for watching Zachary.

HAHA!! LOOOVE the commentary. you sexy beast!
Great to hear your enjoying it Zia. Thanks for watching.

you're funny
Second
Not so amazing that it only holds 4 knives. When most people have a drawer full.

Is good advice, specially if there are kids or very old people with mental problems at home.
First
The way u say epoxy😂😂😂 god its annoying
Really annoying
Haha! What did you find annoying Daniel? Thanks for watching in any case.
You’re trying to hard in your voice. Just be yourself
I do try way too hard haha. Good advice Zachary and thanks for watching.
stop saying 'yeah' and 'yup'
